It suggests flight and movement, created by an array of illuminated vertical wind turbines with custom armatures, geometric sculptures, and arcs of native plants. 375: The Outer Loop links East and West El Paso with a spine flanked by frontage roads that lead into neighborhoods and businesses. The work is a sequential ribbon of faceted and undulating pattern motifs based on geometric mountain forms and the local diamond back rattler in 2” light-capturing relief. 3) Barbara Luecke: 206.398.5059 tele; [email protected] STart Program Manager 401 South Jackson Street Seattle, WA 98104 Projects: SoBel Station & I-405 HOV Lane Maple Leaf Patterning Client: Sound Transit Prime: HJH Artist: Vicki Scuri SiteWorks Aesthetic Enhancements: $400,000 SoBel: Six-feet tall acoustic panels run along the guide way to mitigate sound. The leaf inspired patterning for these acoustic panels introduces color, texture and scale along one thousand feet in front of the station. The patterning transitions color to mark seasons. Similarly, the leaf inspired column wraps introduce human scale to the 24’ high platform columns. I-405: This project celebrates the maple seed as if it is blown in a musical cadence to transform MSE walls that mark the Totem Lake neighborhood creating a crescendo of geometry and pattern work celebrating the landscape and transforming the infrastructure.

BIOGRAPHY

Building on thirty years of experience, my career continues to evolve. Educated in printmaking and design, my studio work transformed into large-scale public installations when I was a member of the Downtown Seattle Transit Artist Design Team. This program catalyzed my interest in collaborative work and public space. It marks the beginning of my practice, Vicki Scuri SiteWorks. My primary focus is site responsive, collaborative design and Public Art, with emphasis on community identity through awareness of place, history and environment. My practice specializes in infrastructure as public place because, infrastructure, best symbolized as the backbone of urban design, is the system upon which society builds its core values, creating meaning, mobility, and connectivity. Having participated on over fifty design teams across the United States, I continuously hone my skills as an artist and collaborator. In 2013, I earned a Certificate in Digital Design and Fabrication, extending my interest in surface modeling by focusing my final project on pattern designs in two and three dimensions, using the laser cutter and the router. These digital tools expand my abilities to realize my work and to embrace a more experimental process in image development. My projects are best known for their symbolic pattern work; play of sunlight and shadow over sculptural form; and my ability to engage the entire site as a canvas, integrating functionality, sustainability and art to create community landmarks. My work, while functional, invites public imagination and engagement. Many of my projects feature programmable LED lighting or make use of sunlight. Shadows move throughout the day, marking time and seasons. Community members actively participate by strolling, recreating and pausing to enjoy their neighborhoods and friends. At night, LED lighting marks seasons, community events and holidays, creating anticipation of celebration throughout the year. The use of native plants and rain harvesting promote environmental awareness. Civic spaces, transit, and pedestrian bridges become neighborhood destinations and gateways. They reflect their unique communities, landscapes and heritages by transforming infrastructure through Public Art and context sensitive design.
