SEO Section Overview The SEO section of Insights has a variety of subsections underneath it, all of which aim to improve search engine optimization for the site. There are four main sections of the SEO section: • • • •

Titles Underneath Titles, there are four reports: • Duplicate Titles: shows all pages that have the same title as one or more other pages in the site • Missing Titles: shows all pages that do not have a title • Long Titles: shows all pages with titles that are longer than 70 characters • Short Titles: shows all pages with titles that are shorter than 10 characters Duplicate Titles The Duplicate Titles Report will group pages by their shared title name, while also listing the total number of duplicate titles and the number of pages affected across the site. Each panel that displays one shared title will show the title in question, all pages affected, and two options: Edit Page, which takes the user directly to the page so it can be edited, and Page Report, which takes the user to that page's report within Insights. Note: for this and all other reports in the SEO section, the Edit Page link will only appear if the file is managed by OU Campus.

Missing Titles This report lists all pages that are missing a title entirely. Edit Page and Page Report links are listed next to each item.

Long Titles By general web standards, 70 characters is considered the upper limit for the full page title to be visible in a Search Engine Results Page (SERP). Titles exceeding this character count will be listed in this report, with the total number of titles and total number of pages affected shown at the top of the report. Each title will be listed, with affected pages grouped underneath it. The exact character count of each title will be shown, and the offending characters will be highlighted in red. Edit Page and Page Report links are listed next to each item.

Short Titles This report shows all pages with titles that are less than 10 characters long. Short titles potentially deprive people using search engines of useful information. Titles not meeting the 10-character count will be listed in this report, with the total number of titles and total number of pages affected shown at the top of the report. Each title will be listed, with affected pages grouped underneath it. The exact character count of each title will be shown. Edit Page and Page Report links are listed next to each item.

Descriptions Underneath Descriptions, there are four reports: • Duplicate: shows all pages that have the same description as one or more other pages in the site • Missing: shows all pages that do not have a description • Long: shows all pages with descriptions longer than 160 characters • Short: shows all pages with descriptions shorter than 70 characters Duplicate Descriptions The Duplicate Descriptions Report groups pages by their shared description, while also listing the total number of duplicate descriptions and the number of pages affected across the site. Missing Descriptions This report lists all pages that are lacking descriptions entirely. Page descriptions are important for gaining user click-throughs from a SERP. The report lists all affected pages, sortable by URL, with the Edit Page and Page Report options available.

Long Descriptions The Long Descriptions Report lists all pages that have descriptions longer than 160 characters. Descriptions longer than this may not fully be displayed in a standard SERP. Pages with long descriptions will be listed, with the offending description shown in full, and all characters exceeding 160 highlighted in red. Users will also be able to select the Edit Page and Page Report options.
Short Descriptions This report shows all pages with descriptions less than 70 characters long. Short descriptions potentially deprive people using the search engine of useful information. Heading Tags There are two reports in the Heading Tags section. They both relate to the hierarchy of heading tags (i.e., , , , etc.) that are in the source code of the page. The reports are as follows: • Duplicate H1 Headings: shows all pages that have the same content wrapped inside an tag on the page • Missing H1 Headings: shows all pages that do not have any tags on the page Duplicate H1 Headings It is not considered a best practice to have multiple pages in the site with the same content wrapped in an tag. This report will group pages that have the same h1-level heading together, show the shared heading tag, and list all pages with that heading. Edit Page and Page Report links are listed next to each item.

Missing H1 Headings Pages that have no tags will be listed here. The report lists the total number of affected pages at the top, followed by a list view of the pages, sorted by URL. Edit Page and Page Report links are listed next to each item.

Keywords The Keywords Report gives a list of all keywords found in the site. Each keyword will be listed in this report, as well as the number of times that keyword is used.
