A WORD FROM THE PRINCIPAL OF THE ACADEMY OF HYPNOTIC SCIENCE There’s one word I’d like you, as someone considering studying with the Academy, to take from this Prospectus. It’s this one: confidence. Confidence that we really and truly can help you to become a Clinical Hypnotherapist in 2014. We have more experience as trainers in this field than any other college in Australia, and we have trained more hypnotherapists than anyone else, too. Confidence that our qualifications really mean something. There are many places you could go to learn to become a Clinical Hypnotherapist, and for all you and I know, their training may be excellent. You have their word for it. With the Academy, you don’t just have our word for it. Not only does studying with us mean that you can become a full clinical member of any of the national professional hypnotherapy Associations, and get insurance to practice, and get your own Private Insurance Health Provider Number. But our training is backed by government accreditation. We are a Registered Training Organisation, part of Australia’s national tertiary training system. And that means that when you graduate from the Academy, you are achieving a nationally-recognised, government-accredited qualification.

Confidence that you are learning the skills and knowledge that you need to be able to apply the right hypnotherapeutic therapies in the right situations. We have more than a dozen trainers teaching our qualifications, and they are each experts in their particular field – be it hypnosis, counselling, NeuroLinguistic Programming, Ericksonian hypnotherapy or in particular techniques used for clients wanting to stop smoking, lose weight, reduce their pain or have the best possible experience of childbirth… to take just a few examples. And finally, confidence that you’ll be learning with us not just how to do Clinical Hypnotherapy, but how to be a Clinical Hypnotherapist. It’s one thing to have the skills and knowledge of how to treat clients: it’s another thing entirely to know how to get those clients in the first place. To be a Clinical Hypnotherapist is to run your own business, with all that entails. Our focus is on ensuring that you know how to do that. You’ll only train once to become a Clinical Hypnotherapist. It’s vital that you make the right decision. We encourage you to explore all your options, and then come to us. We want you to ask us tough questions about our course, because we want you to enrol with us… and do so with confidence. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Dr Steve Carey DPhil, DipHyp, FIIB Principal, Academy of Hypnotic Science

ABOUT ACADEMY OF HYPNOTIC SCIENCE

Founded in 1980, Academy of Hypnotic Science has a proud tradition as the respected leader in Victoria in Clinical Hypnotherapy education and training and clinical practice. The Academy specialises in Clinical Hypnotherapy education for professionals to provide an additional modality and/or to enhance their skills in areas such as counselling, psychotherapy and psychology; and for people interested in pursuing a new career in Clinical Hypnotherapy. The training is outcomes focussed with practical hands-on classroom activity developing skills along with project and written work supporting theory and knowledge. Academy of Hypnotic Science Pty Ltd is a Registered Training Organisation and provides a centrally located Victorian-based education in Clinical Hypnotherapy accredited and recognised by the Victorian Registration & Qualification Authority and the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training.

7

WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO TRAIN WITH US? This specialisation means you can be assured the course provides you with industry specific training which is continually being improved to ensure currency and relevance for those wishing to become hypnotherapy practitioners.

As demand for Clinical Hypnotherapy continues to grow as a safe, reliable, fast and effective treatment for a range of issues – from stopping smoking and losing weight to dealing with pain, trauma and phobias – the demand for trained, accredited Clinical Hypnotherapists continues to grow with it. Many Private Health Insurance providers recognise Clinical Hypnotherapy and offer rebates, further fuelling the demand. The purpose of our course is to prepare you with the knowledge, expertise and experience to start, develop and grow your own Clinical Hypnotherapy practice. You will only train to become a hypnotherapist once: when you choose a training provider, make sure you get the best. Our course may not be the cheapest – but it is the most thorough and is recognised by the Australian Hypnotherapists’ Association as well as by the Victorian and Federal Government as meeting the most exacting standards. The Academy is a government accredited training organisation specialising in Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Our training prepares you for a lifetime of Clinical Hypnotherapy practice. The Certificate IV (22088VIC) is delivered over 21 full days (we have no distance learning element), and you can elect to take the training as a Weekend Course (one weekend per month for ten months with an extra day for a full practical assessment), or as an Accelerated Course (four days per month for five months with an extra day for a full practical assessment), depending on your circumstances: the training is exactly the same in either delivery mode. We have also started delivering the course as a weekday option in 2013. As well as the classroom attendance you are expected to study at home and complete written assignments and practical assessment tasks. You should expect to spend at least 10 hours per week for the Weekend course and 20 hours per week for the Accelerated course on your own completing these set tasks and further reading. Practising the techniques you learn in class is an essential component of the course and you will be asked to keep a log book to demonstrate that you have been performing these tasks. We also provide a higher level training Diploma for graduates of our Certificate IV. The Diploma of Hypnotherapy is also Government-accredited (22090VIC), and is delivered as 22 day weekend course (one weekend per month with an extra day for a full Clinical Practical Assessment).

8

ACCREDITATIONS The Certificate IV course in Hypnotherapy (22088VIC) is a Government-accredited Certificate IV course in Hypnotherapy based in Victoria. RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING AND CREDIT TRANSFER

Credit Transfer (CT) relates to current learning you may have achieved via formal education and training. When we assess credit transfer, we look at the courses you have done to determine if any of the subjects from that course are equivalent to the learning or competency outcomes of the subjects taught in the Certificate IV in Hypnotherapy or Diploma of Hypnotherapy. National Recognition relates to exact units of competency having already been achieved.

VICTORIAN TRAINING GUARANTEE The Academy is contracted to deliver subsidised training by the Victorian Government. If you would like to find out if you are eligible for funding which can substantially reduce the cost of the courses, please call us on (03) 9532 8140.

OUR TRAINERS Our trainers are all experienced, highly qualified Clinical Hypnotherapists currently operating their own active practices. They all have their TAE Certificate IV in Training and Assessment so you can be sure you are being taught by industry relevant and trained assessors.

CLASS SIZE Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 21 students to ensure individual attention can be given to each student.

ASSESSMENT Your Competency Assessment is based on your written assignments, practical assessments and observable behaviour – that is, your classroom presentation and conduct, including willing, appropriate and active participation in both classroom and practical activities. A training plan outlining your assessment requirements and class times will be given to you after you enrol.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that assesses non-formal and informal learning as it relates to the courses here at the Academy. This assessment then helps determine the extent to which you already have the skills or have achieved the learning and competency outcomes that are taught in our courses. By having credit or recognition for some of the subjects in the course you are planning to do, it can reduce the time needed to do the course (e.g. by not having to attend certain lectures or do certain assignments) as well as reducing the cost of the course. The amount of reduction on the cost of the course depends on your relevant experience and skills. The more you can show that you have some of the skills and experience in subjects being taught, the greater the reduction in your fee. If you have no relevant experience or past training, there will be no reduction. Remember that everyone is different and we assess RPL/ CT on a completely individual basis. So even if you have a similar qualification to someone else, there may be a difference with regards to experience and other skills so that the RPL award may be different. In order to qualify for RPL or CT you need to provide us with documentation of the courses you have done and experience you have and complete the RPL kit we supply you with. We charge $150 for assessing your RPL. Please call us on 9532 8140 to find out more.
