BERGEN ◆ FJORDS ◆ COPENHAGEN PRE-CRUISE OPTION May 31 to June 4, 2015 Immerse yourself in majestic Norwegian landscapes and traditional Scandinavian culture on this unique and exclusive four night journey from enchanting Bergen to cosmopolitan Copenhagen. Tour the historic city of Bergen, including Bryggen (the old wharf), a UNESCO World Heritage site, and visit Troldhaugen, the summer retreat of famed composer Edvard Grieg. Ride the Flåm Railway, one of the steepest train lines in the world, through pristine fjordlands, passing snowcapped mountains, cascading waterfalls and alpine lakes. Following lunch in Flåm, a charming village at the head of Aurlands Fjord, embark a private boat for a spectacular cruise along the majestic Sogne Fjord and Nærøy Fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Travel the cobalt blue waters, passing traditional farmsteads and villages flanked by soaring mountains. This evening, arrive at the historic, family-run Stalheim Hotel, with stunning views of the Nærøy Valley. Visit the fascinating Folk Museum, where you can discover traditions of Norwegian country life at your own pace and explore log buildings, a manor house and exhibitions showcasing everyday activities on an 18th-century farm, including baking, distillation, harvesting, hunting and fishing. BERGEN Tuesday, June 2 Following breakfast in the hotel, begin a panoramic tour of Bergen, including a walk through the historic Bryggen district, a UNESCO World Heritage site along the city’s harbor. See King Håkon’s Hall—the political center of early medieval Norway—the Romanesque St. Mary’s Church, the open-air Fish Market and Grieg Hall, named for Norway’s most famous composer and home of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. After lunch on your own, depart for Troldhaugen, Edvard Grieg’s summer home, located along the shores of Lake Nordås. Tour the Victorian villa, where Grieg’s Steinway piano still sits, see the garden cottage where he wrote many of his finest works and attend a specially-arranged recital in Troldsalen, an intimate concert hall with a stunning view of the lake behind the musicians. Continue to the reconstructed Fantoft Stavkirke, a traditional 12th-century wooden Christian church noted for its elaborate architecture. Upon return to the hotel, the evening is free to explore individual pursuits in Bergen. BERGEN/STALHEIM Wednesday, June 3 After breakfast in the hotel, enjoy a scenic transfer from Bergen to the mountaintop hamlet of Myrdal to board the thrilling Flåm Railway, a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering that travels 13 dramatic miles beside cascading waterfalls and through 20 tunnels.

STALHEIM/OSLO Thursday, June 4 Following breakfast in the hotel, transfer from Stalheim to Oslo through beautiful fjordland scenery. COPENHAGEN, DENMARK Friday, June 5 This morning, be on deck as you cruise the stunning waterways of Copenhagen, the “City of Green Spires.” A trading post since the eighth century and throughout the Middle Ages, the city underwent fortification beginning in the late 12th century, changing the face of the harbor forever. Today, Denmark’s exuberant capital is the liveliest and most fetching of Scandinavian cities. At picturesque Gammel Strand, board a private boat for an exclusively chartered cruise along the city’s idyllic canals. See the granite-and-copper Christiansborg Palace, the Dutch Renaissance style Naval Church, the early 17th-century Old Stock Exchange and the famous statue of the Little Mermaid, immortalized by the beloved Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. STOCKHOLM Sunday, June 14 After breakfast in the hotel, visit the Vasa Museum, built to house the best preserved 17th-century warship in the world. The massive vessel sank in Stockholm harbor during its maiden voyage in 1628. More than three centuries later, it was dredged up from the sea bottom and meticulously restored. See the Vasa and fascinating related exhibits on naval warfare, artifacts salvaged from the ship and the lives of several of its passengers. The rest of the afternoon and evening are free to pursue individual interests.
