Day 1, Monday, September 07 Chicago-Munich

We are leaving Chicago late afternoon on your non-stop flight to Munich. Cocktails and dinner will be served en route. If you are coming from a different city, we can help you with your flight arrangements. Notes Section

Day 2, Tuesday September 08 Munich-Innsbruck

After arriving in Munich we will take a train to Innsbruck (Austria). This will be our hub for the next 3 days. After checking into the hotel the afternoon is free for your own activities. Maybe you want to explore the town or do some shopping. We will meet for dinner at 7:30pm and probably will call it a night after that. Notes Section

Day 3, Wednesday September 09 Innsbruck-Jenbach-Achensee

Our first trip is to Jenbach. A short 30 minute ride from Innsbruck will bring us there. The Jenbach station is the only 3-gauge station in Austria. Besides the standard gauge line from Kufstein to Innsbruck, there is also the 760mm line for the Zillertal Railroad going from Jenbach to Mayrhofen. Besides that this is a tourist attraction the line is also been used for local traffic and freight, mostly wood. Last not least there is the 1000mm Rack and Pinion Achensee line. It connects Jenbach with the Achensee lake. This is an absolute tourist attraction, because they still operate this line with steam locomotives. This is the line we take today. Notes Section

Day 4, Thursday September 10 Innsbruck-Aufham

Today, we are visting Hans-Peter Porsche’s TRAUMWERK. Since his early youth Mr. Porsche was collecting toys from different eras. With this “museum” he is able to fulfill a long-cherished dream. The almost 6000 square feet layout depicts parts of German, Austria and Switzerland. There are over 180 trains moving along 10.000 feet of track, which will overcome a difference in altitude of almost 13 feet. It is an all Marklin trains layout with a highly detailed landscaping. Day 5, Friday September 11 Innsbruck-Mayrhofen

We are coming back to Jenbach, but today we take the narrow gauge train to Mayrhofen. Many of you know the Zillertal trains from the Liliput catalog, but here, you have the opportunity to see the real train in action. As it should be, we want to ride the steam train, so we have to catch it leaving at 10:17AM. After 1 ½ hours we will reach Mayrhofen the last station on this line. We will use the time to hang out at the station, having lunch and discover the town. At 3:07PM we will take the train back to Jenbach and Innsbruck. This gives you enough time in the evening to pack for tomorrow. Notes Section

Day 6, Saturday September 12 Innsbruck-Verona

Our train will bring us in 3 ½ hours from Innsbruck to Verona (Italy). We will cross the famous Brenner railway pass which was the first through line to cross the Alps. At Brenner station we will most likely change locomotives. Even they have multi-system locomotives nowadays it is not sure that the locomotive engineers are familiar with the signaling and rules of the Italian state railway. After checking into our new hotel, we give you the rest of the day off to relax, shop or do as you wish. Notes Section

Day 7, Sunday September 13 Verona-Venice

Venice is the city to see and we will do that. Venice is made up of more than 100 tiny islets closely packed around canals. The city itself is essentially a lagoon, and as the water levels rise each year it reminds us the city is sinking. It's traditionally divided into six districts with the Grand Canal winding its way through its heart. The train will bring us in no time to the center of Venice. There we will meet our tour guide to show us the most important sights. For those who enjoy, history, art and architecture, then this is the place for you. Venice is steeped in all three, found in galleries, museums, churches, and even on the islands around Venice. Piazza San Marco is the most famous sight with its pigeons and string quartets serenading the cafés. The centerpiece of the square is St Mark's Basilica rebuilt between 1063 and 1094 echoing eastern models with rare marbles and semi-precious stones adorning it. The Palazzo Ducale, with its historical background, is a magnificent showcase of Venetian art and craftsmanship. The Academia has a wonderful collection of art by Canaletto, Titian, Tintoretto and many more. Notes Section

Day 8, Monday September 14 Trip to Lake Garda

Mount Baldo, Malcesine, Castello Scaligero Today our tour will take us along Lake Garda. From Malcesine we will take the very famous cable car to Mount Baldo. On our way up, the gondola will spin, so everybody will get a 360 degree look of the area. On top of Mount Baldo you have the best panoramic view of the lake. Back in Malcesine we will stroll through the narrow lanes of this little town and then make our way up to the fortification Scaligero. Notes Section

Day 9, Tuesday September 15 Verona

It is about time to learn and see more of this city. We booked the Hop On Hop Off bus tour to do this. I would recommend staying on the bus for the first trip around to find out what will really interest you. On the second round you can get then off and do your own sightseeing. You are free to spend as much or as little time you want. Here are some of the attractions: Roman Arena; Lamberti Tower; Juliet’s house, Piazza delle Erbe; all the famous churches – St. Anastasia, St. Fermo, St. Giorgio and Baslilica St. Zeno. Castelo San Pietro, Porta della Bra, Giusti Gardens and Castelvecchio would be also important. Notes Section

Day 10, Wednesday September 16 Verona-USA Like all good things, this tour will come to an end today. Breakfast is really early in the morning with hotel check out to follow.

Cancellations fees before July 15, 2015 will be $600.00 per person plus any deposits lost to airlines or any other facilities! Cancellation fees between July 16 and August 12 will be $900.00 plus any deposits lost to airlines or any other facilities! After August 12, 2015 there will be no refund for cancellations. Refunds: No refunds will be made for unused portion of the tour after travel begins.
