PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION ADMINISTRATION AND RULES (Revised 2015)

The Ladies Section shall be organised by a Committee of 10 lady members appointed at an AGM to be held on a date and time fixed by the previous year’s Committee. THE COMMITTEE: THE OFFICEBEARERS of the Committee shall consist of Captain, Vice-Captain, Secretary and Treasurer. A further six ladies shall be appointed as Ordinary Members, from whom one Member will be appointed as Handicap Secretary, one Member as Match Secretary one Member as Opens Convener, and one Member as Senior Ladies Representative. The Captain and Vice Captain shall hold office for one year and at the next AGM they shall retire but shall be eligible for re-election for one further year. After serving for two years the Vice Captain shall be eligible for election as Captain while the Captain shall not be eligible for re-election in any capacity until a period of a further five years. The Secretary, Treasurer and all other Committee members shall be appointed for a period of two years after which they are eligible for re-election for a further two years. No member shall serve in excess of four years consecutively as an Ordinary member of the Committee, while those nominated as Officebearers may have served for up to two years as Ordinary members previous to their appointment to office. A member should not be eligible for reelection to the Committee in any capacity until a further period of two years has elapsed. GENERAL MEETINGS 1. The Committee shall endeavour to hold meetings every month, the Chairperson to be the Captain or, in her stead, the Vice Captain. Four members of the Committee shall form a quorum at any meeting of the Committee with the proviso that the Captain or Vice Captain must be present. The Committee shall be responsible for the management of the affairs relating to the Ladies Section. They shall be entitled to remit any of their powers to subcommittees. Minutes shall be taken of all proceedings of the Committee and any appointed sub-committee and shall be open to the inspection of any member of the Ladies Section. 2. The Secretary shall keep full and correct Minutes of all proceedings and meetings and deal with the correspondence relating to the Ladies Section.

3. The Treasurer shall keep correct Accounts showing the financial affairs relating to the Ladies Section, and present a financial statement showing Income and Expenditure to the Committee at least quarterly from the AGM. She shall make the Annual Statement of Accounts available to all members at the AGM. 4. The Handicap Secretary is responsible for maintaining all the handicaps of all ladies who have Peterculter as their ‘Home’ Club and for processing and recording all ladies competition results at Peterculter Golf Club. 5. The Match Secretary shall organise all Friendly competitions. 6. The Opens Convener shall organise the various Ladies Opens as agreed by the Committee in addition to the Mixed Opens held bi-annually. 7. The Committee shall normally hold their meetings in private. The Committee may admit non-committee members to observe and assist in the discussion of specific items of business. All non-committee members shall leave the meeting when so requested by the Committee. 8. At any meeting of the Committee each Office Bearer and Ordinary member will be entitled to one vote on each issue. The Chairperson shall be entitled to a vote and where there is an equality of votes the Chairperson shall have a second and casting vote. Each issue will be decided by a majority vote of those present. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Annual General Meeting shall be held on a date and time to be fixed by the Ladies Committee for the following purposes:  To elect members to the Committee  To submit a report outlining the Financial affairs of the Ladies Section  To discuss any motions or resolutions put forward for consideration Twenty Lady Members shall constitute a quorum at the AGM Notice of the Annual General Meeting will be given to the Lady Members 8 weeks prior to the meeting. A Notice inviting nominations for Officebearers and Ordinary members of the Committee shall be posted in the Ladies Locker Room at least 6 weeks in advance of the date of the AGM. Each nomination will require a Proposer and a Seconder. Any member may propose or second one member who is willing to serve. This sheet will be closed 2 weeks (14 days) prior to the AGM. A list of all candidates shall be posted on the Notice Board in the Ladies Locker Room at least seven days prior to the AGM. In the event of a vote on candidates at the AGM, a decision as to which candidates are elected will be made by majority vote. If two or more candidates obtain an equal number of votes, the incoming Captain shall have the casting vote. In the event that the number of vacancies for Ordinary Members exceeds the number of candidates the Committee shall have the power to fill those vacancies. Vacancies occurring in the Committee during the year may be filled forthwith by co-option and the

Ordinary members so appointed shall serve until the next AGM when they will retire but will be eligible for election for a two year period. Minutes of the previous year’s AGM together with an Agenda for the current AGM will be made available to all lady members 14 days prior to the meeting. Any motion for consideration at the AGM should be submitted to the Secretary 4 weeks (28 days) in advance of the meeting. Any motion or resolution will require two thirds of the members present at the AGM and voting (at such meeting) to carry. The Chairperson shall not be entitled to vote except where there is an equality of votes when the Chairperson shall have the casting vote. No member shall be allowed to vote by proxy. EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING Any requirement to constitute an Extraordinary General Meeting will be within the rules of the main Constitution of the Club as contained within section 6d of that Constitution. COMPETITION RULES/ SEASON FEES/ HANDICAP SYSTEM All information is contained in the Peterculter Golf Club Ladies Section Information Folder held in the Ladies Locker Room and in the Ladies Section of the Peterculter Golf Club Website. COMPLIANCE WITH RULES Every member on paying her entrance fee and subscription is considered thereby to have submitted herself to the Rules and Regulations of the Club and on that condition is entitled to enjoy the privileges of membership. COMPLAINTS All complaints must be made in writing either:  On a comments card in the main lounge for submission to the Main Committee. Or  To the Secretary of the Ladies Committee for discussion and response. ALTERATIONS AND AMENDMENTS TO THE LADIES SECTION ADMINISTRATION AND RULES The Ladies Section Administration and Rules shall not be altered or amended except at the Ladies AGM or at an Extraordinary General Meeting convened for the purpose.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION COMPETITIONS, ENTRY AND SIGN IN Competitions are held every week from April to October. Most weeks, there will be competitions on both Tuesday and either a Saturday or Sunday (where possible alternating with the men's competition days). Ladies may play both days if they wish, as all the competitions are separate; this system is called Dual Day Golf. The Senior Ladies (over 55) also play every Thursday; more details are in the section entitled “Senior Ladies”. From November to the end of March, we play Winter golf; details will be put on the Locker Room notice board in the autumn. COMPETITION ENTRY PROCEDURE (APRIL-OCTOBER) In order to play in a competition you must have a current CONGU handicap. If you do not have a handicap, advice on how to get one is in the Handicap section. Entry for almost all competitions (except the knockout match play competitions and occasional draws) is done on-line. You can use the touch-screen monitor in the Club-house or your own PC at home. Competitions open for on-line booking at 7am 14 days before the competition date, and remain open until midnight of the day before the competition.

ON-LINE BOOKING AT THE CLUBHOUSE You will have had to register before being able to make any on-line bookings. This is very simple to do by clicking on the appropriate box when making a booking. You can book a tee time for a competition as well as for casual golf at the computer in the clubhouse. Just click on the appropriate box. If you have any problems using the computer, go to the Pro Shop and speak to Dean or Ross. They will be more than happy to assist as it is often easier to be shown what to do in situ.

ON-LINE COMPETITION BOOKING FROM HOME 1. On the PGC web site, select “Members Area”. 2. Click on 'Book a Tee Time' 3. Your 'User Name' (your membership number) and your password will be requested. Click 'Login'. 4. Click on the competition you want to enter. If it is highlighted in pink, it is not yet active. 5. Select the time you wish to play click ‘Book Now’ and then you will be asked to confirm booking. 6. 'Log-Out' or go back to book another time. 7. You will be sent an e-mail confirming the date and time you have booked.

Login as above Select Timesheet for the competition from which you wish to withdraw. Click on ‘Edit’ at the time you are signed up to play and tick box to remove your name ‘Log-Out’ Please remember to telephone your playing partners to tell them you have withdrawn.

Competition sheets will not be available on-line after 7am on the day of play. After this time, cross your name out on the printed competition sheet on the notice board in the Ladies’ Locker Room (if you can get up to the club); you should still advise your playing partners. If all else fails, call the Professional’s Shop and ask them to pass on your apologies to your playing partners. TO BOOK/CANCEL A CASUAL GOLF TEE-TIME The procedure is the same, except click on 'Casual Golf’. Please remember that if you have to cancel casual golf because you are unable to play, or because the weather is inclement, phone the Pro Shop to let them know as others may want to use the times. You should make a note of the time you have entered to play, and the names of your playing partners. Please try not to change your playing time, just because a more convenient slot becomes vacant. If you feel you must change times because of other commitments, please inform your playing partners. Where a competition is to be drawn, players will be able to book online for certain tee time slots. A draw will be done 48 hours prior to the competition date.

COMPETITION SIGN-IN PROCEDURE (APRIL-OCTOBER)

All players must sign-in on the monitor in the Professional’s Shop prior to play. Successful sign in results in a label being printed which should be attached to your scorecard. If the monitor is not working, you should sign-in on a sheet of paper in the Shop; please ask Dean/Ross for a sheet if you are the first to play. The Committee has decided that the first time you forget to sign-in, the Handicap Secretary will remind you of this procedure; if you then forget to sign-in a second time, you will be disqualified from the competition and as a result your score will not count for handicap. If you hold your handicap with another club, you will be asked whether your handicap is correct at sign-in. As there is no facility at the monitor to correct your handicap if necessary, please accept the handicap at this stage; you can correct it when you enter your score after your round. When you have completed your round, enter your scores on the computer in the club lounge; you should do this even if you feel you have had a bad round. If you forget to enter your score, it will automatically be recorded as a No Return, and your handicap will be increased by 0.1. COMPETITION RESULTS Results of each competition will be published online on ‘how-did-i-do.co.uk’ and a sheet will be posted in the Ladies’ Locker Room. If you are online, you will receive an e-mail from how-did-i-do to notify you of your result.

SEASON FEE & CHARITY ECLECTIC Every member who takes part in any competition on a Tuesday or a Weekend day throughout the season will need to pay the Season Fee of £18; this pays for the prizes for the various competitions. There is also an optional £2 to enter the Charity Eclectic, a competition which runs throughout the season identifying your best score on each hole from all the rounds that you play both Medal and Stableford. The computer will automatically adjust your record when you press the “Enter Eclectic” button after entering your score. If you have not paid your fees along with your Club Fees, the Ladies’ Treasurer will collect these fees personally from members at the beginning of the season. Alternatively, you can make out a cheque, payable to Peterculter Golf Club, for either £18 or £20 (if you wish to enter the Eclectic) and leave it in an envelope, addressed to the Ladies’ Treasurer, behind the bar. The Ladies’ Treasurer will leave your receipt in an envelope pinned to the noticeboard in the Ladies’ Locker Room. At the end of the season two prizes will be awarded in the Eclectic Competition, one for the Silver Division (handicaps 0 – 20) and one for the Bronze Division (handicaps 21 – 36). Your handicap at 30 September will determine which category applies to you for this competition. The Senior Ladies, playing on Thursday, have a separate fee to pay for their prizes. Ladies who only play their golf with the Senior Ladies do not need to pay the main Season Fee and Charity Eclectic.

5-DAY MEMBERS

It is a general Club rule that 5-Day Members may only play from Monday to Friday, and before 4.30pm. However, 5-Day Members may play social golf at weekends on payment of a fee equivalent to that of a Member’s Guest after 3pm. This cannot be booked on-line; you will need to call the Pro Shop to reserve a weekend tee time. 5-Day members are not eligible to play in any Ladies Competition which might involve weekend play, i.e. the Club Championship, the Senior Club Championship, Patterson Trophy, McInnes Challenge Trophy, and Waitikiri Cup. They may play on Captain v Vice-Captain (Oncology Day) – and on Medal Finals Day if they have won a medal during the season.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION ADVERSE WEATHER PROCEDURE Course Closure There may be occasions when the course is closed first thing, e.g. because of frost or flooding, but opens in the course of the morning. If this is the case, there is a period of grace before those tee-times booked before the course opens are lost. The Ladies Committee has decided that, if this occurs on a competition day, that day’s competition will be cancelled as not everyone will have a chance to play and complete their round. Ladies can, however, play a bounce game at their booked tee-time, or for a time later in the day if times are available. The scores will be non-counting.

Thunder and Lightning Under R & A Rules of Golf 6-8 a, a player may discontinue play if she believes there is a danger from lightning. There is now a klaxon at Peterculter Golf Club and this will be sounded to notify players that due to lightning they have to leave the course immediately. This means you must pick up your ball and go back to the clubhouse, or take shelter. The competition will be cancelled, but for those who have completed their round, under CONGU Rule 18.7, the round will become Reduction only, with the CSS equal to the SSS. If there is lightning in the area, and for some reason the klaxon has not been sounded, it is up to individual players to decide for themselves if they want to abandon play. Some players might make a different judgment and continue to play and return a completed score. However, if the klaxon has not been sounded and there is lightning around, players continuing to play do so at their own risk. Therefore:   

If you decide that you must discontinue play for your own safety, lift (or abandon) your ball and immediately walk in to the club-house. Sign your card as normal, and write clearly along the top “Play abandoned due to Lightning”. Place the card in the card drawer in the Club Lounge. Do not enter your score into the computer.

Under CONGU Clause 18.7, the round will become Reduction Only, with the CSS equal to the SSS.

Heavy Rain The above procedure only applies when there is a threat to personal safety from lightning. It does not apply to any individual player's decision to abandon play due to heavy rain. In such circumstances your handicap will increase by 0.1

MEDALS

MEDALS There are 18 SLGA (Scottish Ladies Golf Association) Medal rounds in the season, playing in which automatically qualifies ladies for the SLGA Silver and Bronze Medals. These are awarded to the ladies with the four best rounds out of all the designated medals they have played. The winners of the Peterculter Silver and Bronze Medals are invited to play in the Regional Finals in the following year. In addition, one SLGA Medal a month on Tuesday, and one at the weekend, is designated as the Monthly Medal (it will have the relevant month noted in brackets), and these Medals will attract a specific prize. All other Medals, whether SLGA or Extra, do not have specific prizes.

MEDAL FINAL TROPHY The winners of each Monthly Medal are eligible to play in the Medal Final, a stroke play competition for the two Medal Final Trophies, one for the Silver Division (handicaps 0 – 20) and one for the Bronze Division (handicaps 21 – 36). If you have won a Monthly Medal as both Silver and a Bronze player, then you will only be eligible for the Silver Division Trophy regardless of whether you end the season in Silver or Bronze Division. The Medal Final is played at the end of the season.

CONSOLATION MEDAL FINAL Any lady who has not won a Monthly Medal is eligible to play in the Consolation Medal Final, played on the same day as the Medal Final.

STABLEFORDS

STABLEFORDS There are 18 designated Stableford competitions throughout the season, 9 at the weekend and 9 on a Tuesday. One Stableford a month on Tuesday, and one at the weekend, is designated as the monthly Stableford (it will have the relevant month noted in brackets), and will attract a specific prize. All other Stablefords, whether numbered or Extra, do not have specific prizes.

STABLEFORD TROPHY There are four Stableford trophies, one each for Silver (handicaps 0–20) and Bronze (handicaps 21–36) Divisions on Tuesdays and Weekend days. The winner of each trophy is calculated by adding the 4 best scores out of the 9 qualifying competitions on the same day (for example, 2 rounds from a Tuesday and 2 rounds from a weekend day will not qualify for the trophies). Your 4 best scores must also all have been played with a handicap relevant to that Division; e.g., to be eligible for one of the Silver Trophies, your handicap must have been in the Silver Division at the time of all your 4 best scores.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Scratch Salver and Handicap Salver The Club Championship takes the form of two qualifying rounds in late May, after which the top 8 players on a Scratch basis and 8 on a Handicap basis are drawn to play knockout matches. In the event of a lady qualifying on both a Scratch and Handicap basis, then the Scratch scores take precedence. The finals are played on Finals Day, when all the Club’s Sections play their finals; this is normally in August. As the Club Championship is the premier Ladies’ trophy, all qualifying is done on the same day on the same course and there is no option to play on the weekend. Players should only enter the Club Championship if they are available to play in both qualifying rounds, the knock out rounds and on Finals Day. There is the option of a medal during the qualifying rounds for those unable to enter the Club Championship. Matches during the knockout rounds are organised by the ladies concerned; the time limits during which the matches must be played will be noted on the draw sheet to allow enough time for all the rounds except the Final to be completed before Finals Day. In the Scratch knockout rounds, no handicap allowance is given while in the Handicap knockout rounds, stroke allowance will be the FULL difference in handicaps.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP Senior Rose Bowl The Senior Club Championship, open to all ladies over 55. Three qualifying rounds shall be played, and the two best scores for each player shall count for qualification. The two players with the best gross total score for two rounds will qualify to play in the Senior Ladies’ Club Championship Scratch Section Final on Finals Day. The two players with the best net score over two rounds will qualify to play in the Senior Ladies’ Club Championship Handicap Section Final on Finals Day. Finals Day is normally in August Ladies should only enter the Senior Club Championship if they are available to play in at least two qualifying rounds and on Finals Day. Should a scheduled qualifying round be abandoned because of adverse weather, every attempt will be made to reschedule. Ladies may enter both the Club Championship and the Senior Club Championship. If a lady wins through to the final of both the Club Championship and the Senior Club Championship, then the Senior Final match will be played before Finals Day. There is the option of an alternative competition during the qualifying rounds for those unable to enter the Club Championship. In the Scratch Final no handicap allowance is given while in the Handicap Final stroke allowance will be the FULL difference in handicaps.

OTHER TROPHIES/CUPS

The Four Seasons Trophy is played over four Medal rounds throughout the season. Ladies must play in three of the four rounds to qualify for the Trophy; the winner is calculated by adding the three best scores. The Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter meetings are scheduled both on Tuesday and a Weekend day; ladies may enter the trophy competition only once in each season (i.e. Spring, Summer etc), but may play a Medal on the other day if they wish. There are separate trophies for Silver and Bronze Sections.

The Millennium Trophy is played for in April. It takes the form of one round in Stableford format and is open to all members. Ladies may only enter the Millennium Trophy on one day (either Tuesday or a Weekend day), but may play a separate Stableford on the other day. When signing in on the computer in the Pro’s Shop, remember to sign in for either the Millennium Trophy OR the Stableford, as appropriate. The Captain’s Prize is played over two rounds of Stableford in July. Ladies may enter the competition on both Tuesday and the Weekend day, and separate prizes will be awarded.

The Lady Vets Trophy was kindly donated by Mrs Barbara Lappin and first played for in 2008. It is played over two rounds on a Thursday and is open to ladies who are over 65 years old.

The Bertha Trophy was first played for in 1996 and is open to all Ladies Committee members. It is a Stableford competition over 1 round.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION MATCHPLAY COMPETITIONS & RULES The Waitikiri Cup was donated by Mrs Lesley Hardie in 1996 and is named after a golf course in Christchurch, New Zealand. It is awarded for a foursomes match play competition (two playing against two, each side playing one ball, alternating drives on each hole, and alternating shots after the drive). Stroke allowance is half the difference between the aggregate handicaps of each side The sign-up sheet is posted in the Ladies Locker Room in early April and the draw done at the end of April. There will be specified times by which each round has to be played.

The McInnes Challenge Trophy was donated by Mr Muir Paterson and is called after his mother’s maiden name. It is awarded for a singles handicap match play competition. Stroke allowance is the full difference between the handicaps of the players. The sign-up sheet is posted in the Ladies Locker Room in early April and the draw done at the end of April. There will be specified times by which each round has to be played.

The Patterson Trophy was donated by Mr & Mrs Steven Patterson and was first played for in 2009. It is awarded for a Scratch match play competition, open to all ladies (though mainly intended for those with handicaps under 21). The sign-up sheet is posted in the Ladies Locker Room in early May, and the draw done at the end of May. There will be specified times by which each round has to be played.

MATCH PLAY RULES In all match play competitions, the first-named player or side is the challenger; however both sides drawn to play in a knockout round are equally responsible for arranging their match within the stipulated time window. Failure to play the tie within the stipulated window will result in both sides being eliminated from the competition unless one side willingly concedes the match of there are extenuating circumstances.

Players are encouraged to contact their opponents as soon as the draw is updated on the notice board to arrange mutually suitable times, especially if they have constraints due to work or social activities. Once suitable times are identified, the challenger will book up to three suitable times and call the opponent to finalise the date. In the event that a tie is not played and the players contest illumination, they should inform the Lady Captain or Vice Captain of their reasons by e-mail prior to the due date for the tie. Should both challenger and opponent be on holiday during the whole period in which the match should be played, they should speak to the Lady Captain or Lady Vice-Captain. If a match is subject to a stroke allowance this will be made clear on the entry sheet, together with confirmation of the stroke allowance permitted. Where a match is all square at the 18th hole, then play should continue down the 1st hole until one player wins a hole, strokes being given and received in accordance with the stroke index. In these circumstances, speak to Dean or Ross in the Professional’s Shop to advise them that you need to continue play, and ask the players due to tee off to let you play through. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as failing light, should continuation of play be abandoned. In this case, speak to the Lady Captain or Lady Vice-Captain. Players are prohibited from using a caddie or bag-carrier/trolley pusher in any Peterculter Golf Club Ladies match except for the Finals of the Club Championship (Scratch, Handicap and Senior) whether or not played on Finals Day (Rules of Golf, Appendix 1 C2).

Handicap Allowances (CONGU Unified Handicapping System, Appendix F) The Council of National Golf Unions directs that the following handicap allowances be used for the undernoted forms of competition when played as handicap events and, where relevant, for the calculation of the Competition Scratch Score in scratch competitions. BOGEY / PAR/ PUTTSOME/ TEXAS SCRAMBLE/ HIDDEN HOLE/ FLAG & TEAM BETTERBALL COMPETITIONS

Bogey / Par A Bogey/Par competition is scored against the par of the course, taking into account your handicap. On this basis: Nett par = a half vs the course, mark as 0 Nett birdie = a win vs the course, mark as +1 Nett bogey = a loss vs the course, mark as -1 For example, if you have a handicap of 18, on a par 4 hole: You take 5 shots, a nett 4, you have halved the hole resulting in a 0 You take 4 shots, a nett 3, you have birdied the hole resulting in +1 You take 6 shots, a nett 5, you have bogeyed the hole resulting in -1 The player with the most + points wins. A tie will be resolved by a count back. You can pick up your ball once you have more than a nett Bogey. If you prefer, you need only mark down the gross score on each hole and the computer will calculate the Bogey/Par result.

Puttsome Count all strokes made with a putter, either ON or OFF the green.

Texas Scramble We play a Texas Scramble in teams of 3 or 4. Each player tees off, then the team chooses one drive. This ball is marked, its owner plays it and then the other team members play their balls from the same spot. This procedure is repeated until one ball is holed out.

Each team must use at least 3 drives from each team member during the round. The handicap for the team is 10% of the total of all the handicaps (using the decimal point), with a maximum handicap of 6.

Hidden Hole This is a normal stroke play competition. The Handicap Committee will nominate a selection of holes to be the “Hidden Holes”, and the winner is the lady with the best nett score on those holes.

Flag Competition This is a Stroke play competition, using full handicap, in Bronze and Silver Divisions. The first player out in each Division carries a small “Flag”, which she places on the course when she has exhausted all her handicap allowance. Subsequent players then move the flag on if they have strokes remaining. For example, a player with a handicap of 25 will have 97 stokes (Par of 72 + 25), and will place the “flag” exactly where her 97th shot ends. Any following competitor who still has strokes in hand when she reaches the flag, will pick up the flag and move it on to where she is ‘out of shots’. If a player still has not used all her shots by the final putt on the 18th, then she continues down the 1st until she is also ‘out of shots’. It may be decided by the competition organisers that the competition will end at the 18 th hole; in these circumstances, ⅔ handicap will be used for the competition.

Team Better Ball The two players on the team each play their own golf ball throughout the round. On each hole, the two team members compare scores, and the lower of their two scores after handicap adjustment (the better ball, in other words) counts as the team's score. Example: On the first hole Player A scores a net 5 and Player B scores a net 4; "4" is the team score for Hole 1.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION BIRDIE/PARTRIDGE TREE Birdies: for all handicaps Any BIRDIE scored in any Ladies Club Competition on a Tuesday or Saturday / Sunday at any hole (excluding any temporary greens) is counted. This includes Birdie scores in the Peterculter Ladies 18 Hole Open. There is a Birdie Book on the counter by the Birdie/Partridge Tree. The first time you score a Birdie, enter your name on a page in the Birdie Book, and put your £1 fee for the season into an envelope and into the box. You should then enter each Birdie you score in the book when you come in from your round, and get your playing partner to sign the book as confirmation. Then find your name ticket (or make one out) and place it on the first rung of ladder to the left of the Birdie/Partridge Tree. As you score further Birdies, move your name ticket up the ladder one rung at a time for each Birdie. If you score an Eagle, move up two rungs.

Partridges: for Handicaps 29 – 36 i.e. Category 5 Any PAR scored at any hole in a Ladies Club Competition held on a Tuesday or Saturday / Sunday (excluding any temporary greens) is counted. This includes Par scores obtained in the Peterculter Ladies 18 Hole Open. There is a Par Book on the counter by the Birdie/Partridge Tree. PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION SENIOR LADIES SECTION The Senior Ladies Section is open to all ladies aged over 55. We play every Thursday, with tee times reserved from 8.30-10.07am. Once a month (usually on the first Thursday) we play a Medal, which is a Qualifying Competition and counts for handicap. All other competitions are non-counting and take the form of Stablefords, Greensomes, Four ball better ball etc. Signup sheets are posted on the Seniors section of the notice board in the Ladies Locker Room two weeks prior to each competition; all competitions except the monthly medals are drawn and the draw will be made one week prior to the competition. The Senior Club Championship will be played over three qualifying rounds in late May, after which the top 8 players on a Scratch basis and 8 players on a Handicap basis are drawn to play on Finals Day, when all the Club’s Sections play their finals; this is normally in August. Players should only enter the Club Championship if they are available to play in both qualifying rounds, the knock out rounds and on Finals Day. There is the option of a Stableford or a Medal during the qualifying rounds for those unable to enter the Club Championship. The Senior Ladies over 65 are eligible to play for the Lady Vets Trophy, which is awarded to the player with the best score over 2 specified rounds. For further details contact:

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION FRIENDLY MATCHES During the golf season we play friendly matches against other clubs, alternating at home and away. We have four teams of two ladies playing in each match, which are played as Greensomes (both players tee off and then choose one ball to continue playing for that hole, alternating shots). Sign-up sheets are put up in the Ladies Locker Room, and the Match Secretary will choose the teams if more than eight ladies have signed up. A lunch or tea follows the match; ladies pay £5 each time they play (whether home or away) to contribute towards the cost of the meal at home matches. Team uniform is black trousers/crops/shorts with white polo shirts and Club Jumpers/ Slipovers which are provided. Playing in matches is a great way to meet fellow golfers from other clubs and play other courses. All handicap levels are welcome. ABERDEEN LADIES COUNTY GOLF ASSOCIATION

Aberdeen Ladies County Golf Association runs a number of County Opens and County competitions during the golf season at different golf clubs in the Aberdeenshire area. Membership of ALCGA is open to any girl or lady who has a handicap of 35 or below. The joining fee is £10 and the annual subscription is £10 for adults, £5 for girls. These fees are due before the second County competition of the season. Cheques should be made out to ALCGA, and left in the plastic wallet on the ALCGA Section of the notice board in the Ladies Locker Room. Your membership card and a receipt will be placed in this wallet for you to collect. Details of all the County Opens can be found on the notice board in the Ladies’ Locker Room. Sign-up is via entry forms for individual County Opens; these are in a green file in the Locker Room, or at www.alcga.co.uk. Send your completed form to the relevant Club Rep before the closing date for entries, together with a cheque to cover the entry fee and green fee. These are both non-refundable. CENTRAL ABERDEENSHIRE LADIES SENIORS (CALS)

The Central Aberdeenshire Ladies Seniors run a number of outings during the golf season. Information is posted on the CALS Section of the notice board in the Ladies Locker Room. Membership is open to any lady aged 50+ with a current Handicap. There is no joining fee. It costs £7 to play in an outing and £2 when you play your Home Club. To sign up for the first 3 Outings sheets are displayed on the notice board. Thereafter, each Club rotates the sheets in blocks of three so that, when playing at an Outing they will be available to sign up for future competitions. Otherwise you need to telephone the relevant Rep of the Club you wish to play. All competitions are Stablefords and regarded as Non-Qualifying Competitions for handicap purposes. Prizes will be awarded for Division 1 (handicap 1-20) and Division 2 (handicaps 21-36) according to the number of players. LADIES OPEN SCRATCH AND HANDICAP TROPHIES There are 4 Trophies awarded: for Scratch in Silver and Bronze Divisions, and Handicap in Silver and Bronze Divisions. Scratch scores will take precedence over handicap scores, except where a player is eligible for the Handicap Cup.

LOCAL LADY TROPHIES All ladies who are members of Peterculter Golf Club are eligible for the Local Lady Scratch and Handicap Trophies irrespective of their Home Club. The Local Lady Trophies will be awarded in addition to any other prize a lady may receive.

SENIOR LADY PRIZE A prize will be awarded for the best handicap score of a Senior Lady, who must be over 55 years of age and have her card marked accordingly. A lady may not receive both a main prize and the senior prize; the main prize will take precedence.

OTHER PRIZES Prizes will be awarded for Longest Drive in Silver and Bronze Divisions, and Nearest the Pin in Silver and Bronze Divisions.

For Example: If a player on 11.2 returns a score with a Nett Differential of +4, her Exact Handicap becomes 11.3. If she then returns a score with a Nett Differential of -7 her Exact Handicap is reduced by 7 x 0.2 = 1.4 i.e. to an Exact Handicap of 9.9 and a playing Handicap of 10 which is immediately her new Handicap. HOW TO GAIN A HANDICAP

To gain a handicap, you must return three scores at your HOME club, using the LGU red tees and over 18 holes; play must adhere to the Rules of Golf and all holes should be completed. These cards may not be completed in a competition, and here at Peterculter Ladies Section we require that all three rounds are played on a stroke play basis (ie not Stableford). You should normally complete all the cards within six months. Each card should show your name, the date of play, and be signed by both the player and the marker; write “FOR HANDICAP” at the top. A marker needs to be familiar with the Rules of Golf but need not hold a current handicap; the marker may be male or female. If in doubt about whether a marker is acceptable, please speak to the Handicap Secretary. The score used must be your first round of the day on the course, i.e. if you play twice in one day you can only submit the card from the first time you play. When you have completed your three cards, staple them together and place them in the Competition Drawer to the left of the monitor in the Club Lounge. The Handicap Secretary will calculate your handicap and formally advise you of it; after this, we welcome you to play in our competitions.

ALTERATIONS TO HANDICAP Both reductions to and increases in playing handicaps are immediate. Any changes are posted on the notice board after qualifying competitions have been closed. Weekend competitions are closed either on Saturday or Sunday, weekday competitions either on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. In addition, a complete list of handicaps is kept in the folder entitled “Handicaps” in the Locker Room. It is a player’s responsibility to play off the correct handicap and you must check your handicap before playing in a competition. If you think that your handicap has changed but for any reason you cannot confirm your revised handicap before playing in a competition or a match, then you should play off the lower handicap. However, should your handicap be changed following the Annual Review, the change does not come into operation until the beginning of the new season.

LAPSED HANDICAPS If you do not return a minimum of 3 Qualifying Scores in a season, then your handicap will lapse. (A Qualifying Score is a score returned in a Qualifying Competition, i.e. most of the formal competitions we organise at PGC, and most Opens.) Your handicap will not be

identified by the letter ‘c’, and is deemed inactive; you will not be able to play in competitions for which a CONGU Handicap is required. You will still be able to use it for social golf. If your handicap has lapsed, you can regain a Playing Handicap by returning 3 cards over your home course, using the LGU red tees and completing 18 holes. These cards should ideally be completed within 6 months. Prior to play you must signify your intention to play by putting your name and the date in the Supplementary Day Book in the Ladies locker room. After your round place the completed card in the competition drawer marking the card “TO REGAIN HANDICAP”

In addition to the above, for the 2015 season you can regain your lapsed handicap by playing with the ladies on a competition day. If you are playing with the competition ladies, please sign in, input your scores to the computer and place the completed card in the drawer, marking the card “TO REGAIN HANDICAP”

ANNUAL REVIEW One of the responsibilities of a Handicap Committee is to carry out an Annual Review of Handicaps each year. For the majority of players who play regularly in competitions, the handicapping system adjusts handicaps routinely and accurately. However, there may be instances where this is not the case, and the Annual Review is designed to correct these:  Even for players who take part with reasonable regularity in Qualifying Competitions, the system can be too slow to react to changes in their standard of play.  In general, players who have recently been allotted a handicap have the potential to improve more rapidly than the system can take account of.  Players may be infrequent competitors in Qualifying Competitions and so provide few opportunities for the system to adjust their handicap in line with their current standard of play. At the same time, some may compete frequently with success in other forms of golf and their handicap may require adjustment to reflect this. The Annual Review of Handicaps takes place during the winter season of each year; ladies whose handicaps are being adjusted after the Review will be notified individually by the Handicap Secretary. In addition, in exceptional circumstance the Handicap Committee may adjust the handicap of a player in the period between Annual Reviews if there is compelling evidence that her Exact Handicap does not reflect her current playing ability.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION CENTRAL DATABASE OF HANDICAPS (CDH) AND REPORTING AWAY SCORES CENTRAL DATABASE OF HANDICAPS (CDH) This is a nationwide system for recording the current handicaps of all active golfers, and their playing history. First, register on the CDH site at: www.slga.co.uk/cdh/member. Enter your Unique ID Number (given to you when you paid your bill) and follow the onscreen instructions. NOTE: you will see a box with your Home Member Number already entered – this number is the same as the number on your PGC Gold Card; it is NOT the number that you use to enter the club web site. You do not need to do anything with this number. Thereafter, log on to: www.slga.col.uk/cdh/member and follow the on-screen instructions. User Name: Personal ID Number: Password:

You now have unlimited free access to all your handicap and Player Handicap Record information as it changes during the season. All PGC members, with an active handicap, have been logged into the system and have a Unique ID number which is yours for as long as you have an active handicap. Once you have personally registered on the CDH, you will have unlimited free access to all your handicap and Player Handicap Record information as it changes during the playing season – keeping you informed of your official CONGU Handicap at all times and keeping track of your progress as each season unfolds. When entering Qualifying Competitions i.e. Opens away from PGC you will be required to provide your Unique ID number when booking your entry. Your result will then be submitted, by the organizing club, to the CDH which in turn will notify PGC of your result and any change in your handicap. REPORTING AWAY SCORES

It is the player’s responsibility to ensure that away scores are reported as promptly as possible to their home club. This can be done through CDH or on-line via the PGC website or manually in the folder in the Ladies Locker Room. In either case, you will need the CSS and SSS of the competition played, and the par of the course. If your “away” score is likely to result in a reduction to your handicap, then you should make a copy of your score card, circle any score over the nett double bogey and place the card in the competition drawer in the lounge.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION SUPPLEMENTARY SCORES (Clause 21, CONGU Unified Handicapping System 2012 -2015)

The Supplementary Scores system exists for players who, for some reason, cannot play in many Qualifying Competitions but who want to maintain their handicap or ensure that it truly reflects their playing ability. The rules relating to Supplementary Scores are:       

You may only return a Supplementary Score at your home club. You may play either on a stroke play or a Stableford format. You can return a maximum of 10 cards in the year as Supplementary Scores, but only 1 card per week. You must signify your intention to return a Supplementary Score prior to play by putting your name in the Supplementary Day Book which is in the Archive Box File in the Ladies Locker Room. You should complete your card in the usual way, and make sure that it carries your name, date and handicap, and is both signed by you and counter-signed by your marker. After the round, you should place the card in the competition drawer in the lounge. If you do not return a card after signing the Supplementary Day Book, your handicap will be increased by 0.1. All categories of players may now record Supplementary Scores.

PETERCULTER GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION STABLEFORD/NETT DOUBLE BOGEY ADJUSTMENT (Clause 19.8, CONGU Unified Handicapping System 2012 – 2015)

The purpose of the ‘Stableford/Nett Double Bogey Adjustment’ is to make handicaps more representative of a player’s potential ability. It does this in two ways:  

by placing a limit on the maximum score that can be recorded at any hole; and by allowing a player who does not complete a hole, for any reason, to continue to record a score for handicap purposes. If you decide to pick up your ball before finishing a hole, instead of marking your card Nil Return/ NR, you should enter a ‘0’ on the score card for that hole. You should then continue to record a score for all the subsequent holes.

This adjustment is for handicap purposes only, i.e. it does not affect your score in the competition. The computer will adjust your handicap, whether you have completed the hole or not, to a maximum of 2 over the score you would be expected to record at that hole, taking your handicap into account.
