Food for Fines/Food for Thought at the Allen Park Public Library For the fourth year in a row, the Allen Park Public Library is participating in Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan’s Food for Fines/Food for Thought program. Last year, area libraries who participated in this program collected more than 8,400 pounds of food, providing over 7,000 meals for our hungry neighbors. This year, the Food For Fines/Food for Thought program has a goal of 10,000 pounds of food for those in need. That’s where you come in! We’re asking for YOUR help in reaching this goal!

From March 21 through April 29, library patrons are encouraged to bring in canned goods and other non-perishable food items. As a thank you, the Library will allow you $1 per item in fine forgiveness for Allen Park Library materials only, with a $5 cap per day. Patrons can also bring in 2 canned or non-perishable food items to check out one Blu-ray disc for free (the $2 checkout fee will be waived). For more information regarding item suggestions and donation rules, please go to page 8 of our newsletter!

David Shannon

David Shannon is a internationally acclaimed picture-book creator. He wrote and illustrated his first book at age five which showed pictures of David doing things he wasn’t supposed to be doing. From that, he was inspired to write and illustrate his now-classic bestseller and Caldecott Honor book called No, David! When David writes books, he often takes inspiration from his everyday life. For instance, when his daughter would make animal noises as a child, he found the inspiration to write Duck on a Bike. Another one of his creations, Good Boy, Fergus!, features his beloved family dog. To check out some of David’s books, take a look in our JE picture book section of the library under “SH”.
