Motherwell North Multi Member Ward Plan 2015

Our focus. Your priorities. This policing plan will outline the priorities your community identified during our most recent consultation. It will inform you of the action we have taken up till now to address those priorities and how we plan to continue to address them throughout the year. Our focus is to reduce crime and disorder, to increase public reassurance within your community and to keep people safe. We will continue to work closely with our partners and find effective long-term solutions to the issues you raised. Local Priorities You identified that the policing priorities for the Motherwell North area are as follows: 1. Violent Crime You told us your concerns regarding the number of violent incidents carried out by and against people within your community.

2. Youths Causing Annoyance You told us your concerns about young people engaging in antisocial behaviour and causing annoyance within your community. 3. Drug Dealing and Misuse You told us your concerns about drug dealing and drug misuse within your community. 4. Vandalism/ Graffiti You told us your concerns regarding the level of vandalism and graffiti within your community. We have listened to your concerns and are working hard to make improvements in the Motherwell North area. We have listened to your concerns and comments and hopefully you will have continued to see further improvements in the Motherwell North area.

Our actions to date. Violence and Antisocial behaviour Through crime pattern analysis ‘hot spot areas’ where violence and antisocial behaviour are most prevalent were identified. Officers were then deployed in uniform or plain clothes within these key locations at the key times to detect and disrupt the people engaged in criminality and antisocial behaviour. Violence and Antisocial Behaviour When antisocial behaviour, which has the potential to escalate into violent crime, has occurred, we have shared this information and worked with our partners at North Lanarkshire Council to identify long term solutions to problematic tenants. Violence and Antisocial Behaviour We have actively targeted the persistent offenders within the community who are repeatedly involved in antisocial behaviour, disorder and violence by monitoring the bail conditions imposed by the court on them, such as curfew bail and /or restriction of movement. Drug Dealing and Misuse We have acted on community intelligence and executed drug search

warrants at the homes and address associated with those persons in the community involved in drug misuse. We have also been visiting our schools to educate young people in the dangers of substance misuse. Vandalism Through high visibility patrols and partnership working we have been identifying areas targeted by vandals. We regularly patrol these areas and youths found loitering have been the subject of a ‘Parental Alert Letter’ which notifies their parents that they have been found loitering in a problematic area.

In the coming months. Violence and Antisocial Behaviour We will continue to have directed patrols within identified ‘hotspot’ areas to deter and disrupt those involved in antisocial behaviour. Fixed penalty notices will be issued to those who engage in rowdy behaviour in the street Violence and Antisocial Behaviour We will ensure robust enforcement of licensed premises legislation, particularly off-sales to disrupt the sale of alcohol to underage people and we will continue to target drinking in public places. Fixed penalty notices will be issued to those who engage in drinking in the street. Dishonesty We will continue to patrol your community both in uniform and in plain clothes to deter and detect those responsible for crimes of dishonesty and use specialist technicians to maximise all forensic opportunities from crime scenes. Dedicated enquiry teams will investigate all instances of housebreaking and target suspects.

Engagement We will continue to attend community groups and schools and engage with young people to hopefully steer them away from involvement in antisocial behaviour, vandalism and drug misuse. We aim to be visible within your community and look forward to hearing about the issues that are important to you. Partnership working We will continue to use our links with all local partners, including North Lanarkshire Council, to share information and identify long term solutions to recurring problems in the ward and surrounding area.
