News & Notes Join us in celebrating the closing week of the Jubilee Year of Mercy—

Nativity of Mary will host a service at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 20th and all area Catholics are invited to attend. Adoration of the Eucharist and Reconciliation will be available. Please take this opportunity to spend time with Jesus, reflecting on his goodness and grace, and to participate in this healing sacrament.

Would You Like A Pastoral Visit? REMINDER: If you, a family member or someone you know is confined or hospitalized and would benefit from a pastoral visit, please contact your parish office and let them know. Staff does not always know of hospital admissions for a variety of reasons and often has no way of knowing of other situations in which a parish contact would be beneficial.

Attention: Lectors The WORKBOOK for lectors is now available for the next liturgical year, in the church vestibule. As a gentle reminder; it is important that you prepare your reading carefully, so that you re not simply reading, but actually proclaiming the text. Being prayerful with the reading and “living with it” for several days in advance can help to familiarize you with the reading and make it your own. Thank you so much for being a part of this important ministry.

School News St. Mary School

On Friday, November 11th our students attended the Veterans Day Ceremony at Traxler Park. This year we sang a song for the program led by our music teacher, Mrs. Vriezen. I am so proud of our students and the respect they showed for our veterans. On Monday our third, fourth, and fifth grade students took a field trip to the Aldo Leopold Nature Center. The students had great time and learned a great deal about the environment. Next Friday, November 18th, Our School will attend mass with the three other Janesville Catholic Schools here at St. Mary’s. After mass our middle school students will participate in a service project with the three other Catholic Middle Schools.

Scripture Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Please Pray For Our Parishioners:

"It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute." - Lk 21:13-15 ************************************************************** "You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name." This is not a pleasant prophecy. On the contrary, Jesus' somber words may strike us with a bit of fear and make us wonder if we will ever actually face such a tragic scenario. We are fortunate to live in a country where religious freedom is tolerated, and of course we hope that this continues to be the case. But the sad fact is that right now, there are Christians in other parts of the world who are living out the reality of these prophetic words. For these men, women, and children of faith, the name of Jesus truly is a cause of persecution and martyrdom.

Traveling Chalice Full Year of Prayer Planned

Let us imagine for a moment that the tables were turned. Suppose we were the ones suffering from the violent advances of anti-Christian forces. Suppose we were the ones losing our homes, fleeing for our lives, tending to our wounded loved ones, or worse. Where would we look for help? To other Christians, most likely, to those who would sympathize with our commitments but who still had the resources to assist us.

This week the Traveling Chalice will be hosted by the High School Religious Education class. Any questions regarding our Traveling Chalice program may be directed to: Colleen at 868-6386 OR [email protected].

Sacraments

We ARE those other Christians. We are the ones who share a common faith with these suffering brothers and sisters on the other side of the globe. We are the ones with the resources to help them, even if it is just in a small way. Our prayers for their protection and peace cannot be underestimated, but neither can we dismiss the significance of contributing in any way possible to those organizations that are working on the front lines to assist the suffering Church throughout the world. May we all do what we can to bring relief to those who need it most.

Anointing of the Sick:

Infant Baptism: Registered members of the parish are welcome to arrange for their baby’s baptism by signing up for the necessary preparation program for parents.

What’s Happening “I’ve got pies to bake” … “We need to clean the house” … “How can I get everything ready?”

As the Jubilee Year of Mercy draws to a close, parishioners in the Diocese of Madison have a great opportunity to make this holy year one that will continue to bring blessing to the marginalized in our diocese. At the invitation of Pope Francis, Bishop Morlino has set up the Mother Teresa Mercy Endowment Fund as a way to memorialize the Year of Mercy. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support for the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy to be lived out right here in our diocese. This week there was an article in the Catholic Herald announcing the fund and an envelope was enclosed for those desiring to send in donations. As you reflect on the many graces made available throughout this Year of Mercy, please consider how you may continue answer God’s call to show mercy to others. Might you consider closing the Year of Mercy with a gift to the Saint Mother Teresa Mercy Endowment Fund? In the words of Mother Teresa, "Intense love does not measure, it just gives." For more information call 608-821-3048 or visit www.diocesemadisonfoundation.org.

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared the final Thursday in November as national Thanksgiving Day. He said, “It has seemed to me fit and proper … to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” Over a hundred years later and we still do not take the time to truly give Thanks. On Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 5:15 pm we will have our Thanksgiving Mass. You are encouraged to bring an item from your Thanksgiving table to be blessed during the Mass. The collection at Mass will go to benefit ECHO. Feel free to bring a food item or donation to give. Offer many prayers of Thanksgiving, that the Lord will help you to always be good – Pope Francis

Each year a holiday party is held for Rock County foster families and the children in their care. This year it will be put on by a group of foster moms at the New Life Assembly Church in Janesville. The Janesville Police Department will be there to read a story to the kids, and they have Santa coming for a visit as well. If you’d like to help make this holiday party a success, you’ll find a basket in the main vestibule at the entrance to our church. Please bring any wrapped & sealed candy, suitable for a Christmas stocking, and deposit it in the basket through November 27th. It’s a small way to extend our support to those families that help the children of our community who desperately need it.
