MESSAGE FROM MANAGEMENT First and foremost we would like to sincerely thank all the members, volunteers, competitors, sponsors, donors and all who attended the 2105 Monto Show. The generosity of our town is amazing and the Show is testament to this. The 2016 show is shaping up nicely, with a newly appointed Committee at the helm! We have some fresh faces, new ideas and a renewed commitment to the Show Movement. This year will see a new look schedule and the introduction of a special Kid‘s Only Schedule. We are excited to announce some of our entertainment options for the weekend including Tom Wyatte, BJ Horsemanship, Tyronne‘s Circus Troop, Norah‘s Ark Animal Farmyard and the Trackskill V8 Ute‘s! 6

BLUE CARDS IT IS RECOMMENDED BY THE ROYAL NATIONAL ASSOCIATION, THE BURNETT SUB-CHAMBER, AND THE MONTO SHOW SOCIETY INC. THAT ALL STEWARDS, JUDGES AND VOLUNTEERS WHO COME IN CONTACT WITH PEOPLE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE SHOULD HAVE A BLUE CARD. Persons requiring Blue Cards can apply

SPECIAL SHOW REGULATIONS & BY LAWS 1.

The Show will be open to the public on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th April 2016. 2. Judging: All classes, unless otherwise stated, will commence at 10.00am on Saturday 23rd April 2016(Judging Day). 3. Spectators - All Official Gates. Trade Displays and Exhibitors - Back Gate only (Kennedy St Entrance) NO FREE PASSES ALLOCATED AT GATES. ALL NON-MEMBER COMPETITORS MUST PAY AT GATE. 4. Damage Through Exhibits: The society will not be responsible for any accident that may be caused through or by any exhibit, and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the Society blameless and indemnified against any legal proceedings arising from such accidents. 5. Accidents: The Society will not, under any circumstances, hold itself liable for any accident on the grounds or premises. 6. Damage to Exhibits: The Society will not, under any circumstances, hold itself responsible for any loss or damage to, or miss-delivery of exhibits. 7. Loss by Disease: The entry form will be taken as a guarantee that the animals specified therein are free from all diseases so far as it is known by the owner. In case of infectious diseases, being spread through or by an exhibit, the exhibitor will be held responsible. 8. Fire: Precautions will be taken to guard against fire and to protect the property at the exhibition, but exhibits will not be insured at the cost of the Society. 9. Exhibits entered in the wrong class by the exhibitor may be transferred to the proper class by the Stewards at the discretion of the Judge. 10. The Society may receive for exhibition only (not for competition) any exhibits not specified in the schedule, providing there be sufficient space. The Society reserves the right to refuse any entry without giving reasons for so doing . 11. Exhibitors, if called upon by the Committee, shall prove the correctness of their certificates of entry by statutory declaration or otherwise. 12. Responsibility for accuracy of pedigrees and of any other particulars required by prize schedule conditions rests solely with exhibitors. Incorrect particulars or omission of particulars required may render the competitor liable to forfeiture of prize money won, and to disqualification for such period as the Committee may deem fitting. 13. Should there be any reason to suspect that any exhibit is either dangerous or diseased, the Committee reserves the right of refusing admittance to or of removing same from the ground at the expense of the exhibitor. 14. All exhibits must be delivered to and from the grounds at the risk of the exhibitor. 15. All exhibits must be on the grounds at the time stated in the schedule, or if not stated, then not later than 9am on Judging Day. 16. Unless more than two entries are received in a Class, the Society reserves the right to reduce first prize by 30% and award a ribbon only for second. 17. The Judge may award certificates of merit to exhibits, vis., ―Highly Commended‖ or ―Commended‖ if warranted. 18. No entry will be received from any person disqualified by the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies or any of the leading Race Clubs during the period of such 10disqualification. Should any such entry be accidentally accepted, it shall, whenever

No entries will be received except on the conditions that all disputes, objections, and protests shall be decided by the committee of the Society (or majority of those present) whose decision shall be final. No protest will be considered unless lodged with the Secretary in writing before 6pm on the day of the competition, enclosing $20, which will be forfeited to the Society‘s funds should the protest be considered frivolous. Protests will only be received from competitors in Class questioned. As soon as the Judges have made their award in any Class the prize exhibit shall be distinguished by different coloured ribbons or cards: Blue first, Red second, Yellow third, White special, Purple champion and Green reserve champion.

22.

The age of all cattle shall be computed as from the first of April. In the event of any dispute age will be determined by the tooth test. Stud animals entered in Herd Books will be taken at actual age.

23.

Any person being a nuisance or using insulting language or behaviour will be expelled from the grounds.

24.

All exhibits must remain on the Show grounds until 3pm on the last day of the Show. No exhibit will be allowed to be removed without the sanction of the Secretary or Stewards. In cases of a breach of this rule, all prizes that have been awarded to the exhibitor may be forfeited unless satisfactory reason is given.

Prize money unclaimed and outstanding for 30 days, will be forfeited to the Society.

26.

In case any dispute may arise as to the construction to be put upon any of the By-Laws and Regulations the same shall be determined by the Committee of the Society whose decision shall be final.

27.

Auctioneers shall pay to the Society a commission not less than two and one half percent upon livestock sale effected on the Show Grounds, whether by auction or by private contract. No responsibility to local exhibitors for exhibits not collected at Show. Stewards shall remove exhibitors and other persons from the vicinity of the Judges while judging is in progress. Judges are expected to attend at the Secretary's office on the Show grounds at the hour appointed and introduce themselves to the Secretary and to the Stewards of the Section. Judges will receive Award Books from Stewards of the Section. Judges as they arrive at their decisions will write their award with any remarks they may desire in the Award Book. Judges shall disqualify any exhibitor who, in their opinion, does not comply with the regulations, and shall enter the reason in their book. Judges may recommend for certificates or commend as they think fit , any exhibit of special merit not included in the Schedule of prizes, and need not award prizes in any class in which exhibits are considered, in their opinion of sufficient merit. Judges will sign the Award Book, and deliver them to the Stewards of the Section. The Grand Parade of livestock and Machinery will commence between 1 pm and 1-15 pm on 2nd day of Show. All participants in Grand Parade will be eligible to win a prize of $50, drawn at end of parade. Children 12yrs &11

Campdraft and Two Handed Cutting nominations fees, Stable Fees and Camping Fees: MUST BE PAID IN ADVANCE. Please find application forms at the back of schedule. Camping Fees $15.00; Stallion Stall $8.00: Horse Stall $6.00 including GST. Horses (including Galloways) over 14hh and ponies competing in graded show jumping events must be registered with EFA (Qld Branch). Riders of such horses must also be registered members of EFA. Waybill must be supplied to the Secretary before Competition. (Refer to regulation 18) All competitors must sign a waiver (if under 18yrs waiver to be signed by parent or guardian) and complete the Horse Health Declaration supplied. HOBBY FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED TO COLLECT ALL PRIZE MONIES. CAMPDRAFT AND TWO HANDED CUTTING ENTRIES BY ENTRY FORM

SPECIAL REGULATIONS: 1.

Horses and Ponies in stud led-in classes must produce certificate of registration when requested by Chief Steward, also Horses competing in ASH Society Events MUST produce financial Membership Cards before competing in events. (There will be NO EXCEPTION to this rule).

2.

14 Stone Hacks cannot compete in the 12 Stone classes or vice versa. All are eligible to compete in Ladies‘ or Gents‘ classes.

3.

All prize winners are eligible to compete for championship without special entry.

4.

No stallion will be allowed to compete in classes for hacks.

5.

Short definitions: Pony - a pony must not exceed 14 hands. Miniature Horses & Ponies are not permitted to compete in the Open Pony Classes as well as Miniature Classes. Galloway - must be over 14 and not exceed 15 hands true to Galloway type and conformation. All animals above 15hh must compete in open classes.

6.

Prize winners must take part in Grand Parade, otherwise prize money may not be paid.

7.

No horses or ponies will be allowed to come into the ring with ribbons on, except in parade.

8.

Additional events may be run at the discretion of the Stewards.

9.

Jumping regulations available from Stewards on Show day.

10.

Loan horses must be pastured in the Shire at least three months prior to the Show.

11.

District events include North Burnett Regional Council and Banana Shire

12.

Local Rider Classes restricted to the area within 100 kms of Monto and/or members of Monto, Eisdvold, Mundubbera, or Biloela Pony Clubs.

13.

ALL ENTRIES FOR PONY CLUB EVENTS MUST BE SIGNED BY THE SECRETARY OF THEIR CLUB.

14.

All led classes must produce papers on request of the steward.

15.

NOVICE - For horses that have never won a Championship Hack at an Agricultural Show or a first at a Royal Show.

16.

In the event of two events clashing the competitor/s must decide in which event to compete as no events will be delayed

17.

ENTRIES BY TICKET SYSTEM:- Section 1 only. All competitors must collect Entry Tickets from the Horse Secretary’s Office before competing in any event and hand to Steward. All prize money will be paid from the Horse Secretary Office. For those who are GST registered, prize money will be paid by cheque upon receipt of a GST invoice at the main Secretaries Office on completion of all events.

18.

All persons in charge of horses or ponies on the show grounds must supply the Society with a copy of their waybill, Horse Health Declaration and Waiver complete with description of animal as well as the name and address of responsible person before competing in any event at this show.

19.

The Grand Parade of Livestock and Machinery will enter the ring between 1pm and 1-15 pm on second day of Show. Participants will receive a ticket in a draw for a prize of $50.

The Society will take no responsibility other than the feeding and watering of cattle on the grounds till 3pm last day of Show. 4. Owners to assist with sorting & penning as directed by the Chief Steward. 5. All cattle must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor for three months prior to the Show. All cattle are received subject to the right of the Stewards to reject any cattle not up to the Show standard and, if required, to arrange for same to be removed from the grounds before judging commences. 6. Stewards have the right to transfer any entry to a more suitable class. 7. All cattle must be either polled or completely dehorned and wild cattle may be removed from the grounds at the discretion of the Stewards. 8. Cattle cannot compete in more than one class excepting the carcass classes. A freshly erupted or lost tooth shall be counted. 9. Cattle may be mouthed one week prior to the Show by arrangements with the Secretary or Chief Steward. 10. Champions may be selected from a pen or single classes. 11. Exhibitors must include Vendors Declaration Forms for Carcass Cattle. Home cattle will also require a Vendor Declaration. 12. No cattle will be accepted as non-competitive. 13. All exhibitors & the public must remain outside the yards while judging is in progress. 14. Breed of cattle to be stated on entry form or handed to the Steward on the first day of the Show. 15. Classes 1, 2, 5, 6, 14 and 15 must be pasture or crop fed. Not grain assisted. 16. Cattle entered in Prime Beef Section to remain in cattle yards to 3pm on the last day of the Show. 17. Cattle must be free of ticks and must meet DPI standards. 18. In all pen classes, at least one beast must have stated number of teeth, others may have less. 19. All stock must carry an NLIS device.

SECTION 17—JUVENILE DISPLAY PRIMARY SCHOOLS Principals & teaching staff of Monto State, Mulgildie State & St Therese are invited to arrange a display at the show. This will be a non-competitive display which will enable parents and the public to see work done by pupils giving them a greater appreciation of present day teaching methods. MONTO HIGH SCHOOL The Principal and Teaching Staff of the Monto High School are invited to arrange a noncompetitive display for this Show. This will cover many areas of work undertaken by high school students.

EDUCATION ON SHOW The Education on Show competition is devoted to showcasing work by Queensland students. Education on Show covers a wide range of contemporary curriculum related skills and activities. The competition has been designed to encourage students to strive to do their best as the school‘s selected best works will be judged and on display at the Ekka. The competition has also been designed to encourage teachers to use as a resource tool of assessment and fit seamlessly in to the classroom teachings. JUDGED THURSDAY 21 ST APRIL REGULATIONS 1. Class A. All pictures, paintings and drawings must be framed or mounted suitable for hanging. 2. All work must be the work of the exhibitor. 3. All Exhibits must be delivered to the pavilion or left with the Secretary of the Show Society prior to 23rd April. 4. GINGER BISCUITS: 125 gms Butter 1 cup Sugar 1 Tblsp Syrup 1 egg ( lightly beaten) 2 cups SR Flour 3 tsps Ginger Method: Melt butter, add to sugar, syrup & egg. Sift in flour, salt and ginger. Mix well. Roll teaspoons into small balls and place on tray, press down. Cook 12 - 15 mins at 180C RASBERRY SLICE: 3/4 Cup Plain Flour 1/4 Cup S.R. Flour 2 Tablespoons Sugar 90 Grams Butter 1 Egg 1/2 Cup Raspberry Jam Topping 1 Egg 2 Tablespoons Sugar 1 1/4 Cups Coconut Method Combine sifted dry ingredients, rub in butter, mix to a soft dough with lightly beaten egg. Press evenly into a 11 inch X 7 inch tin. Half cook in moderate oven. Warm jam and spread evenly over base then topping. Cook in moderate oven 25 - 30 minutes or until golden brown. SECTION 22—SUGGESTED RECIPES KENTISH CAKE 170g butter, softened 2 Tablespoons cocoa 3/4 cup castor sugar 2 tbs desiccated coconut 2 eggs 1/4 cup milk 1 cup self-raising flour 90gms sultanas, nuts & cherries Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs, beating well after each addition. Fold in sifted dry ingredients, add milk, fruit and nuts. Bake in moderate oven in a deep greased and lined tin for approx. 45 mins or until cooked. Turn our onto a wire rack to cook, ice with caramel or chocolate icing. CARROT CAKE 125g Butter 1 teaspoon mixed spice 125g Sugar Pinch salt 2 eggs 1 1/2 cups SR Flour 1 Tablespoon Syrup 1 Cup finely grated carrot 1/2 cup chop walnuts Beat butter & sugar, add eggs one at a time beating well. Add syrup & grated carrot, stir in sifted flour, salt & spice, and finally chopped walnuts. Place in an orange bar tin & bake in a barely moderate oven approx 75 to 90 minutes. Ice on top only with lemon flavoured icing. MARBLE CAKE 125g soft butter 1/2 cup milk 185g sugar Pinch salt 2 eggs Vanilla 1 1/2 cup SR Flour Place all ingredients in a small mixing bowl and mix on lower speed. When combined beat on higher speed for 4 minutes only. Divide the mixture into 3 and colour one pink, one chocolate (2 level dessertspoons of cocoa dissolved in hot water to a thin paste) and leave one white. Line bottom of 20cm round tin. Place mixture in alternate spoonful's and run a knife through to create marble effect. Bake at 190c for 35-40mins. When cool ice on top only with pink icing or alternate chocolate and pink and create a marble effect by drawing through the point of a knife. SULTANA CAKE 8ozs (250gm) butter 1 small tsp baking powder 8 ozs (250gm) sugar Grated rind of 1/2 lemon 5 eggs 12 ozs/375gms sultanas 10ozs (315 gm) plain flour Cream butter and sugar till white, add eggs one at a time, beating well. Add lemon rind and flour, baking powder and lastly sultanas. Place in 8‖ (20 cm) round tin and bake in moderately slow oven for approximately 2 hours. Cool on a towel lined rack BOILED FRUIT CAKE 5ozs (155 gm) butter or margarine 1 cup water 1 cup sugar 1 packet mixed fruit (12 ozs/375 gm) 1 teaspoon mixed spice 1 teaspoon bi-carb soda 2 eggs 1 cup plain flour 1 1/4 cups SR flour Few drops each vanilla, lemon & almond essence. Place in saucepan butter, sugar, water, mixed fruit, spice and soda. Bring to boil and simmer gently for 10 minutes. Cool. Lightly beat eggs and add with essences. Stir in flours. Bake in 8‖ (20 cm) round tin in a moderately slow oven for approx 1 1/2 hours or until cooked when tested.

DATE LOAF 1 cup chopped dates 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 rounded tablespoon butter 1 teaspoon gound ginger 1 teaspoon bi-carb soda 1 cup boiling water 1 egg 1 1/2 cups self-raising flour Chop dates and place in bowl. Add sugar, butter, ginger and soda. Pour boiling water over and mix well together. Allow to stand until almost cold. Add the beaten eggs and flour. Mix well. Bake in a slow to moderate oven for 40-45 mins or until cooked. CINNAMON TEA CAKE 155g castor sugar 90g butter 185g SR flour Pinch salt 2 eggs 100ml milk Few drops vanilla essence Combine sugar, butter, flour and salt in a mixer until they resemble breadcrumbs, then add eggs, milk and vanilla all at once. Beat on medium speed for approx 2 minutes until mixture is nice and creamy. Place mixture in a greased and lined 8‖ (20 cm) round cake tin and bake in a moderate oven approx. 25 - 30 minutes. Turn out onto a towel covered rack, brush the top lightly with melted butter, sprinkle the top with cinnamon and castor sugar.

Feral Ute All makes & models.The real character Ute‘s dings and dents and all, with stickers, accessories, bullbar, antennae or remnants thereof. Aerial flags are permitted for display purposes only. Must be roadworthy 7. Best Classic Ute Any restored Ute over 30 years of age which is roadworthy and registered with or without modifications to the Engine and body but still being able to identify the ―true‖ make and model. WINNERS:- The winners of each class are eligible to compete at the Sub-Chamber finals and the winners at Sub-Chamber are then eligible to compete at the Ekka. NOTE: It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to notify the Show Society or Sub-Chamber Coordinator of their judging ineligibility to compete. 81

RURAL AMBASSADOR The Rural Ambassador Award is open to both males and females aged between 20 & 30 years of age, who have a strong commitment to the rural industries and an involvement and passion or the Agricultural Show movement. The aim of the awards is to highlight the importance of young people in rural and regional Queensland. The award identifies those people actively involved in their local Show, who have a sound knowledge of current rural issues affecting their local areas, Queensland and Australia and have a strong affiliation with agriculture. The award seeks young people who symbolise the rural spirit—people with vitality who are forward thinking and with a passion for the land and local agricultural shows. MISS SHOWGIRL The Miss Showgirl awards seek young Queensland Ladies to represent Queensland Shows for 12 months. The role encourages and promotes the Agricultural Show Movement to Queensland Youth. Entrants are selected for their knowledge, presentation, passion for the agricultural show movement and their community. The competition is no beauty contest, nor is it a intelligence test, it is an award presented to young Queenslander's who raise the profile of Queensland Shows. The award provides an opportunity to excel in leadership, community involvement, key management and confidence. We look forward to the future of the Queensland Miss Showgirl Award as it is the opportunity of a lifetime for young Queensland women, so come on board you will enjoy an incredible journey!
