Baoshida Swissmetal is Swiss manufacturer of copper and copper alloys based in Switzerland. Our high quality products are distributed worldwide in various product lines: electronics, telecommunications, aerospace, military, oil & gas exploration, automotive, consumer goods, architectural, and others.

1855 A rolling mill and foundry, Bueche, Boillat & Cie., was founded in Reconvilier in the Bernese Jura.

1895 A rolling mill and foundry was founded in Dornach and operated under the name Schweizerische Metallwerke AG Dornach. Both companies were started and grew in response to the Swiss watch industry’s demand for precision metal products for watch gears and plates.

1900 - 1986 At the start of the 20th century, the development of the two plants ran in parallel. Pressing and drawing lines were added to the rolling mills. Production expanded to include brass rods and later wires for the developing high speed Swiss CAM use. Over the years, extrusion presses were added; drawing capabilities were increased; and the rolling mills and foundries steadily expanded. The product range grew along with the expansion of the production facilities. Boillat focused increasingly on small and medium dimensions, while Dornach concentrated on medium and large dimensions.

1986 - 2006 As a result, Boillat produced wires, rods and small profiles for writing instruments, electronics, and precision turning industry. Dornach concentrated on manufacturing larger diameter rods, profiles and strips. These were

sold primarily to the electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, lock, watch and clock, construction and precision turning industries. The automotive and aerospace industries were added to the list of customers; not least thanks to special alloys such as those produced on the Osprey spray forming system at Boillat. In Dornach, investment in a continuous conform extrusion plant led to advances in copper profile production, complementing an already broad range of profiles in brass and bronze for numerous applications

2007 The watch-making industry discovered the alloy NP6 for its integral precision parts. The high-performance alloys in demand by the aviation industry corresponded very closely with the alloy CN8. This material has since been certified by aircraft manufacturers for critical wearing parts.

2008 Presentation of the new extrusion press at the Dornach site. At full capacity, the technical wonder is able to replace five outdated presses.

2013 Baoshida Swissmetal purchased both sites. Today, we are proud to present you Baoshida Swissmetal, with its headquarters in Reconvilier, Bernese Jura, Switzerland.

applications Power generation and distribution Pure and low-alloyed copper (Cu) are used for generating and distributing power due to the exceptional electrical and thermal conductivity of elemental copper. Specialty Baoshida Swissmetal alloys with additional pure silver (Ag) increases, raises the annealing temperature of copper allowing for high temperature applications.

Baoshida Swissmetal is a fully integrated mill that controls all aspects of our manufacturing processes: from the smelting in the foundry to the finished goods packaging. This allows us to have complete traceability of quality and therefore guarantee the highest performance. Additionally, our fully implemented quality management system provides the basis required for reliable planning, management and implementation of the quality characteristics in an organized and reproducible form. The focus is on a process-orientated approach. This means that in all areas of the company from initial customer contact via all production stages through to final inspection and delivery of the products, the individual stages with their complexity are viewed and managed as a single functioning unit. The quality management system as a principle of organization is based on and certified to the requirements of ISO 9001:2008, which has been successfully renewed in 2013. In order to be able to ensure the product characteristics required by our customers, various measures are required to support manufacturing and ensure quality assurance.

In the modern materials laboratory, special recognized procedures for destructive and non-destructive tests on materials are carried out in a professional manner. In addition customers may engage the laboratory to conduct individual inspection procedures for quality assurance. During the whole production process Baoshida Swissmetal not only cares about the quality of its products, but also cares about its industrial impact on the environment. In order to limit the consequences of its activities, the first ISO 9001 certificate was obtained in 1994 and the ISO 14001 certificate was obtained in 2003. In 2013, both Baoshida Swissmetal’s production sites, Reconvilier and Dornach, successfully renewed the ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certifications for their environmental management systems. This is the result of compliance with the legal norms, ongoing improvements, rational use of resources and the minimization of environmental risks and impacts. For instance, depending on alloy type, Baoshida Swissmetal uses up to 100% of recycled raw material.
