W

e, the blended Catholic community of St. Ignatius Loyola, draw strength from Word and Sacrament, especially in the celebration of the Eucharist. Modeling Christ’s work, we embrace our commitment to God’s call. We remain faithful to the shared acts of prayer, study and service. Together we extend Christ’s hospitality to others and light the path of peace for generations to come.

SAINT IGNATIUS THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

In recognition of our need to give, and the many needs of our church and parish, and in gratitude for God’s gifts to us, we declare our willingness to return a portion of our Treasure to our parish, as part of our total Christian stewardship.

The Youth Group is currently collecting non-perishable food items to be packed and distributed to over 50 families in our parish and the community. Food can be dropped off in back of either the church or chapel in the food pantry bins at all Masses. Some common foods in need are mashed potatoes, gravy, pasta, sauce, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruits and vegetables, cake mix, icing, cranberry sauce, and cereal. This is the last weekend food can be accepted for our drive so we may prepare for distributing the bags for the Thanksgiving Holiday. If you still need to drop off your food donation and were not able to bring it to this weekend’s Masses, you may drop it off at Bergan Parish Center on Sunday, November 23rd from 1:00-3:00 PM. Thank you for your generous donations!

WEEKLY MEDITATION Sunday Tithe $12,811.10 This Week’s Expenses $27,445.76

Today is the celebration of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. He is the King of each one of us, the source of all life, who we are and the creator of our very existence. The Gospel teaches us and reminds each of us that when we serve and care for the hungry, the homeless, the lonely, we serve the Christ that lives in each of us. We are grateful that we can serve and give to all in need.

Don’t forget! Food Collection each and every weekend at the vestibules of Church and Chapel.

BE AN ANGEL THIS ADVENT As is tradition in our parish, the Angel Wreaths have been placed in the back of the church and chapel. If you have not already taken an ornament, please consider doing so. The item should be newly purchased. Wrap the gift and attach the ornament to the outside of the package. Place it in the Angel Sleigh in the church or under the Angel Wreath in the chapel, or you may drop it off at the rectory during regular office hours. Please do not wrap used items. The deadline for returning the Angel gifts is Sunday, December 7th. If you have any questions or for some reason you are unable to return your gift by the deadline, please contact Jenn Frusciante at 570-574-9724. Remember to be an angel this Advent. CHRSTMAS WAFER (OPLATKI) The word “Oplatek” derives from the latin word “Oblatum”, meaning sacred bread. Made of unleavened dough, it first began to be used in the 10th century as a liturgical wafer, with a religious motif engraved on a side. Families gather on Christmas Eve and share the wafer with a simple blessing ritual as their traditional Christmas Eve meal begins. The wafers will be available after all Masses next weekend. Everyone is welcome to share in this rich Polish tradition which expresses a tender love for the Christ-Child. Any donation will be deeply appreciated!

THE THANKFUL TREE Throughout November, the sanctuary of our church now includes a “Thankful Tree.” The children from our Religious Education classes wrote what they are thankful for on leaves and brought them to the altar at the 10:30 AM Mass. They now hang on the tree as a representation and visual reminder of God’s goodness and how that plays out in the lives of our young people. As you look at the tree, think of the many things we are all thankful for...the kindness of friends, family, lessons we’ve learned this year, our health, our country’s freedom, worshipping with our wonderful parish community and all of the many other things in our lives. We thank our loving God for all that we receive...Amen. If any children missed the opportunity to write on a leaf, please let someone know so they can participate. Also, all are welcome to come up to the tree to read the leaves after any Mass.

DECEMBER 6TH - NOON TO 6:00 PM Wouldn’t it be great to have a national convention for parents, grandparents, and guardians with national speakers and great music to revive their faith and celebrate their vocation as they help their families grow in faith? Good News: The Catholic Parent Revival (CPR) in San Antonio, Texas, December 6th will be just such an event. Better News: We can “live stream” the event here in our diocese anywhere we want! With national presenters and performers like Steve and Jenni Angrisano, Mark Hart, Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, Roy Petitfils, Noelle Garcia and John Angotti. Attendees will be treated to a day of inspiring stories, moving music, and meaningful prayer that is guaranteed to breathe new life into the role that faith takes within their home, the domestic church. The Catholic Parent Revival is part of the Strong Catholic Families initiative presented in partnership with NFCYM, NACFLM, NCCL AND NCEA. For more information go to: www.catholicparentrevival.org. The Catholic Parent Revival has been created to allow time for parents to talk with one another in small groups and to allow for some extended time toward the end of the day to reflect and pray with and for one another. Steve and Jennie Angrisano, serving as emcees, with guide both onsite and virtual groups through this process as the event unfolds.
