SURGICAL NETWORK IN CROSS BORDER MACRO AREA
Three main work streams developed: • Clinical area, with regards to specific topics of laparoscopic surgery, Target Controlled Infusion (TCI) anesthesia, ‘fast track’ protocol • Technological area with relevant investments in equipment and implementation of a surgical platform • Area of vocational training for surgeons and nurses

E-SURGERYNET GENERAL OBJECTIVES
• To implement european platforms for information, knowledge and evaluation • To activate mechanisms for exchange of best practices • To carry out activities of research and professional training for both medical and nursing staff

E-SURGERYNET SPECIFIC OBJECTS
• Use of TCI anesthetic techniques (Target Controlled-Infusion) • Increase of mini-invasive surgery and laparoscopic techniques (SILS, NOTES, TEO) • Realization of an archive of laparoscopic procedures • Implementation and management of a video communication system • Training of personnel to anesthetic techniques and surgical protocols • Creation of a WEB portal, functional to the surgical platform, aimed at specialists, operators, and citizens

• Establishment of working groups between partners • Analysis and evaluation of surgical and anesthetic techniques in use between partners • Requirements analysis and technological needs of the partners to achieve the common objectives • Common procedures and standard protocols supply among partners • Data collection and evaluation related to laparoscopic procedures and application of ‘fast track’ protocol

• Relevant technological investments for all partners: Innovative and advanced instrumentation for mini-invasive surgery Infusion pumps for intravenous anesthesia Professional equipment for shooting from the operating room and video editing Multilateral teleconsultation between specialists in surgery Enhancement of Hospitals’ information systems (hw/sw)

PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS • Creation of a surgical platform with restricted access (for partners only) aimed at archiving documents, images, and videos of mini-invasive laparoscopic surgery: Production of videos showing laparoscopic techniques and TCI anesthesia for training purposes Production and classification of specialized training modules for surgeons to the use of laparoscopic techniques and deep knowledge of ‘fast track’ patient management protocols Production and classification of specialized training modules for nurses in intraoperative assistance to develop advanced skills in complex care situations

PROJECT ACHIEVEMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS • Realization of a WEB portal, functional to the surgical platform. The project web site provides useful information to citizens regarding e-surgerynet activities and results and surgical care supplied by partners. http://www.esurgerynet-ita-slo.eu/
