On behalf of Captivating International Foundation Ltd. and the Auction Committee, we would like to welcome and thank you for attending tonight’s event. Together supporting this annual event, we will celebrate Shenzhen, China’s 5th year of giving back and making a positive difference in the lives of those far less fortunate. Tonight’s event is themed “Inspired by a New Generation” and features many “doors”. You opened a new door in your life tonight by attending this event and showing your support for the work we are doing to alleviate poverty. Your presence here tonight is paving the road and inspiring a new generation to stand up and fight for others that are far less fortunate. Thank you for being a hero of your own tonight and showing our community you believe all human beings are deserving of a life free of poverty. Your attendance is a donation in itself, over 300 RMB of your ticket price will be used to create sustainable programs that alleviate poverty in rural villages, provide educational resources and vocational training for children who were born without hope. All of this staying in line with Captivating International’s Mission: “To elevate children out of poverty giving them the chance to reach out for a better tomorrow”. It is crucial we give a special thank you and recognition to the Auction Committee. Without their unwavering dedication and commitment to this event it would not have come to fruition. Welcome Gifts Guests tonight were greeted at the door by the Seng girls and given one of two gifts: For the ladies, they were given a paper bead bracelet. The paper bead was hand-made for our event. The process began with a verse from John Legend’s “If You’re Out There” written on a triangular piece of paper. The lyrics were written in English and Tibetan to signify our commitment to helping the poor and disadvantaged in Qinghai, China. The verse written and folded in each bead says: “Oh I was looking for a song to sing I searched for a leader But the leader was me we were looking for the world to change we can be heroes”

For the men, they were given a white scarf called a Khatak. A khatak is a traditional ceremonial scarf, originated from Tibetan culture. It symbolizes purity and compassion. It is usually made of silk and is white symbolizing the pure heart of the giver. These gifts were personally given to each and every one of you from the Seng girls as a way of saying “Thank You” for supporting them and more importantly believing in them!

TONIGHT’S GOAL - RMB 1.5 Million This year’s goal is all about our Shenzhen community banding together to bring hope to the lives of impoverished children and families in Western China. Working together with our partners like LOVEQTRA, SHEM Women’s Group and new partners joining with us in 2014, our aim is to go much further than we’ve ever been - bringing hope for a better tomorrow to children and families waiting for their chance. The Seng Girl’s Vocational School & Home (SGVTS) is still our cornerstone project in Qinghai Province (run and managed by LOVEQTRA). Proceeds from tonight’s Charity auction, coupled with support from Seng Girls child sponsors and project supporters around the world, will enable us to again meet in excess of 80% of the total SGVTS program budget for the year. However, meeting or exceeding tonight’s goal of RMB 1.5 million enables us to do so much more in this region. New programs over the next 12 months will focus on providing many impoverished families the ability to increase progressively and sustainability their household incomes - and in the process keep their educational dreams alive for their children. Through partners like SHEM and others, we will bring hope to even more young girls, women and families trapped in poverty through the year. Tonight’s success will put us in a strong position to impact hundreds of lives and, in the process, end poverty for generations to come. This excites us greatly. Projects like the SGVTS, Village Development initiatives and our fight against family poverty take hours of work, campaigning and presentations. QSI and SIS Students Team Up Again for This Year’s Event The Captivating International volunteer team, students of both SIS and QSI and Mr Adrian Blackstock (choreographer) are inspired by the lyrics of John Legend’s, “If you’re Out There”. Our special bracelet given to all the ladies this evening includes a passage of the song that sums up how Captivating International feels about all the people involved with tonight’s gala and auction. Pictured above is the 2nd day of rehearsals with QSI & SIS students led by volunteer choreographer Adrian Blackstock. Adrian is currently teaching at a local Chinese school and loves to perform and has a passion for nonprofit volunteer service, especially on behalf of children everywhere. He and his partner Rue Moyer of Shenzhen Local Music are volunteering their time to work with these students for this performance and Captivating International would like to say a huge “Thank You” to them!

About Captivating About Captivating International Foundation Ltd. Captivating International Foundation Ltd. believes that within every child lies the potential for greatness – something of incredible value to their world. For many, much of this value is lost because of poverty or injustice. So Captivating’s mission and passion is to see disadvantaged, impoverished, fatherless, poorest-of-the-poor children soar – to see them reach out for a better tomorrow.
How it all started In 2006, Andrew & Julie Colquhoun, along with their son Tyler, left corporate life in Australia to devote themselves fully to serving children, single mothers and families trapped in poverty or injustice. Driven by the belief that every child and every person has something incredible to offer their world, they wanted to help people achieve their purpose in life taking them from a position of extreme disadvantage to having real choices. Their story started with a chance trip to Northern China where they came face to face with street children struggling to survive harsh winters by wrapping themselves around underground heating pipes. Following their involvement in helping this local community establish foster family solutions for many of these children, they started to become involved with local schools and teachers who wanted to help the poor children in their communities. In 2008, Captivating International was founded by Andrew and Julie as a Hong Kong Charity with partnership links to Australia and the US. To date the work of Captivating has supported projects in Heilongjiang, Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai, Guangxi, Guizhou and Guangdong. In addition to China, Captivating also works in Kenya (caring for AIDS orphans and poverty alleviation) and Nepal (preventing girls being trafficked into China and India).
Captivating’s Projects
Captivating’s work starts by finding a grassroots local partner already doing good work in their location, but through lack of finance and administrative support is 11

unable to make the impact the community and its children desperately need. Captivating helps the local partner stabilize their existing work, and then expand it. All projects have an exit strategy – a desire to see all projects stand on their own feet over time. Efforts supporting sustainability and the ability for project partners and families to produce their own income are always a crucial component of Captivating’s partnership. In 2013, the following programs are Captivating’s current focus with new projects being assessed on an ongoing basis: Seng Girls’ Vocational School and Home (SGVTS) – Qinghai For 5 years Captivating has funded the operating costs of this project along with significant investments in infrastructure development and income making ventures. This project, founded and managed by our partner LOVEQTRA, supports 130 girls rescued from positions of extreme disadvantage and hardship. The SGVTS provides a place of safety and refuge for these girls and a starting point for many to pursue their dreams. This year close to 30 girls are enrolled in advanced education opportunities throughout China thanks to increased support and partnership for this program. Village Development – Guizhou Nothing is more satisfying than seeing an entire village start to progress out of poverty. Captivating is working with Heifer China to make poverty history for select villages in mountainous regions of Guizhou Province. 450 families will directly benefit from this work with our dream being to start seeing parents able to return from the cities to their “left-behind” kids. Project Eden – Guangdong Initially started as a foster family support program, Project Eden has morphed into a program almost fully devoted to providing intensive Chinese language development to girls from the Seng Girls Home. Being well positioned close to motivated local businesses, Eden is also coordinating the safe first steps into work and independence for some girls.

About Captivating Village Development – Qinghai Commenced this year with Shem Women’s Group, this project will help 74 impoverished families improve their annual cash income, village hygiene and nutrition levels through the establishment of better managed home pig businesses.
Captivating KENYA – Kisii Kids Care Home Supporting 40+ children orphaned through AIDS. Captivating underwrites the financing of this project with progressive steps being taken towards expansion to a community wide foster-family program and micro-finance solutions addressing poverty in the region.
Captivating NEPAL – rescuing girls from Human Trafficking Captivating has joined hands with two locally registered organizations in Nepal to establish border monitoring stations intercepting girls being trafficked for the sex trade into China and India. We will be expanding into prevention related programs aimed at (1) educating targeted trouble spots about the dangers of trafficking and (2) addressing one of the key causes of trafficking – extreme poverty.

About LOVEQTRA About Love Qinghai Tibet Rescue & Aid Love Qinghai Tibet Rescue & Aid (LOVEQTRA) is a China registered non-profit, non-government charitable organization (registration no: [Qinghai] 63070165). Their mission is to execute justice for the oppressed, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, set free the prisoners, lift up the bowed down, and uphold the fatherless and the widowed. In 2005, LOVEQTRA established a home in a remote location of Qinghai specifically to provide a place of safety and refuge for girls who were found to be in unsafe circumstances. They started a program called Operation W.O.R.T.H. centering on Women Oppressed by & Redeemed from Traditional Hegemony. It is a program designed to systematically Rescue, Empower, Assist, Commission and Train women who are and/or have been oppressed by the traditional system, cultural and heritage which they are born and live. With full support from the local and county governments, the Seng Girls’ Home was officially licensed as a Vocational Development Training Centre in November, 2009. Captivating partnered with LOVEQTRA in 2008 when the Seng Girls’ Home cared for 40 girls. Since then, Captivating has become the primary financier of this program working in partnership with LOVEQTRA. The home’s capacity has been expanded to now care for more than 130 girls. The focus of LOVEQTRA’s program is to secure the long-term futures of these girls by giving them the basics of life - quality food, nutrition, medical support, and to ensure they receive a quality education and vocational development training for necessary life skills. All of these girls have dreams, and this program is all about how together we can help them realize those dreams. The differences being made as of today is that 130 girls are safe and secure in the SGVTS home environment and throughout China. The girls vary in age from 5 to 19 years. Most of them started attending school for the first time upon coming to SGVTS. These girls all live with the hope of a brighter tomorrow – something none of them were prepared to even dream of previously.

What else does LOVEQTRA do? LOVEQTRA is heavily involved in emergency relief work (2008 Sichuan earthquake and the 2010 Yushu earthquake). Their work has helped hundreds of children and families survive their horrendous circumstances – work that still continues today. LOVEQTRA also works with Qinghai orphanages and elders’ homes. Their work spreads over 3 provinces – Qinghai, Sichuan and Gansu. About SHEM About Shem Women’s Group (SHEM) SHEM is registered under Qinghai Minority Charity Fund, a non-profit, non-government charitable organization. SHEM is a women’s group dedicated to empowering women and their communities through grassroots development. They focus on increasing the well-being of people in impoverished communities by providing access to basic needs such as water, fuel, electricity, health care, and basic education. More recently they have become involved in poverty reduction programs. They fulfill their mission by training educated women to design, implement, and manage sustainable grassroots development projects that will successfully alleviate the problems that their communities face. At the village level, while their projects fulfill basic survival needs for village women and their families, their project managers - educated women - present villagers with strong female role models. The work of these young women raises villager’s confidence in women’s abilities and encourages villagers to value women’s education. At the university level, they offer discussion groups and workshops designed to empower educated women, and they provide women with the resources and training they need to put their ideas into action. During the course of the year, selected university students learn how to identify the problems of their communities, design sustainable projects that would successfully alleviate these problems, write professional proposals to outside funding sources, and manage the execution of their projects. A challenge for SHEM has been finding partners willing to fund and assist them implement these sustainability plans. This is where CAPTIVATING comes in. Together, Captivating and Shem will join forces to expand Shem successful intervention model, starting with two villages in Qinghai. This project will directly benefit 74 households with a population of 526 including 213 women, 204 men and 109 children under sixteen. 74 families will initially benefit from the completion of pigsty construction, and the supply of quality sows. They will be trained on best practice breeding techniques and provided with 4 years of ongoing program support. Indirectly, over the 4 year life of this project, 1000 people from neighboring villages will also benefit due to pigs being passed on as gifts from the original 74 families and along with it breeding expertise. 17

About Child Sponsorship Did you know you can sponsor a girl from the Seng Girl’s Home? Why this is so important Not many people know that CHILD SPONSORSHIP covers up to half of our commitment to the SGVTS total program budget. By combining child sponsorship donations with dedicated project donors and the Annual Charity Auction we are able to meet our total budget goals and help LOVEQTRA continue to expand. The motivation of a child sponsor is on their child - seeing her grow and develop over the longer term. It is not unusual for a donor to stay connected to their sponsored child for years or until we tell them their support is no longer required. This is wonderful as donations are constant year on year directly helping the child and showing incredible support in project planning and confidence in a strong future.
How it works Our standard child sponsorship arrangement is US$40 a month (US$480 a year). Since partnering with LOVEQTRA and the girls home project in 2008, we have aimed to match two sponsors to every child. We have done this as project costs for a program that includes housing, on-site staff and education will always be higher than costs for a child still residing with their family. Still, we find that many sponsors prefer to know they are the only sponsor of their child and therefore some pay double sponsorship - a total payment of US$80 a month, US$960 a year. Our website clearly shows how many sponsors each child needs. When received, sponsorship donations can only be used for the Seng Girls Home Project and are combined with other project donations in support of the total program – a program that directly benefits the sponsored child as a result.

What a child sponsor receives Each sponsor receives a welcome letter and background information on their child, two updates a year on the project as well as an annual progress report on how their child is going.
Sponsorship enables us to provide some or all of the following: Medical care and schooling for your child; Complete home care and support for your child at the SGVTS; Support to improve and better resource the school your child attends; Seed funding to start income producing businesses to move the SGVTS towards self-sustainability; • Vocational/life skill development for your child to move them towards independence. This may involve them eventually being relocated to a higher place of learning elsewhere in China. • • • •

About Pigs Ending Poverty TONIGHT – You can BUY A PIG for RMB 800 and END POVERTY FOR A FAMILY. For over 5 years, Captivating has been using the Power of the Pig as one of their solutions to help project partners generate income, and impoverished rural based families progress out of poverty. But, seriously, what difference can one pig make? Here’s how it works: Firstly, it all starts with a quality pig. A whole lot of science sits behind today’s pigs. Compared to the typical pig you find in the rural village, the new cross-bred pigs grow faster, taste better, are more disease resistant. They even look more attractive to some. But, they also cost more to buy and are beyond the reach of many families. Secondly, feeding methods and disease control programs have also changed. Many families cook the feed before giving it to pigs (easier to digest). However, so many important nutrients are lost. Today’s methods keep digestion issues low and nutrition high – almost halving the time it takes to get a pig to market. Vaccination programs also significantly reduce the risk of failure. But, without training and program support, poor rural villagers are not prepared to risk change. Your RMB 800 Buys a QUALITY 25kg piglet TRAINS A FAMILY on the latest techniques Provides ongoing technical support Tonight’s goal is to supply 74 families with a breeding SOW (a mom). 1.Your SOW (still a piglet at this stage) will take up to a year before she is ready to go on her first DATE. 2.After she gets married, she’ll be a stay-at-home mom and PRODUCE 20 piglets a year (on average). 3.Once the piglets are weaned from MOM, they will be sold at market for around RMB400 each. 4.HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!! This means girls go to school. Of course, this is just the start for this family. They may decide to hold onto one of the girl piglets and raise 2 MOMS in the future thereby doubling their future income. GOOD TIMES ARE COMING. About Our International Kitchen Captivating International Foundation Limited Publishes a Bilingual, English and Chinese Cookbook Titled “Our International Kitchen”
The bilingual cookbook is a fundraising project initiated by a group of local Captivating International volunteers in Shenzhen, China. The cookbook committee made up of 6 ladies; Michelle Behling, Liz Jheeta, Angela Kowalski, April Potterfield, Lynn Velez and Vivian Yuan have embraced China as their home and proven their willingness to give back to a country that has given them so much. The cookbook, “Our International Kitchen”, demonstrates their gratitude to their ‘host country’ China. The cookbook committee saw the need to create an English and Chinese bilingual cookbook featuring recipes from all over the world submitted by people in their community. It does take a village to raise a child and the Shenzhen village has exemplified this through the publication of the cookbook. They are now supporting over 100 girls at the Seng Girls’ Vocational Training School and Home (SGVTS). Captivating International is proud to see so many people in their community support the cookbook project. People volunteered their time and expertise by translating recipes, test cooking recipes, taking photos of the cooked dishes and the girls and diligently proofing the cookbook. The book would not be the work of art it is today without the volunteer design team who turned it into a “coffee table book”. Print Ninja, a Shenzhen based printing company, is to thank as well for donating their services and covering 70% of the printing costs themselves. The Seng Girls’ Vocational Training School and Home (SGVTS) is a place of safety and promise for girls from extremely disadvantaged circumstances. Located in the southern part of Qinghai Province in China, the SGVTS was established in 2005 by a family who had a passion to see girls from ‘at-risk’ circumstances given the chance to achieve their dreams. The SGVTS is a registered vocational training school and operates with the full cooperation of local and provincial governments of Qinghai. It is central to the vision and dreams of a Chinese registered non-profit organization called LOVEQTRA. Captivating International partners with LOVEQTRA to see these improvised girls reach out for a better tomorrow. Captivating International fully funds the operating costs of this program and its strategic development.

Blind Auction Rules What is a Blind Auction? A blind auction is like a silent auction, one without an auctioneer, but with mystery involved. During the auction period (a set amount of time) bids are written down on small sheets of paper and deposited into a closed box. The bidder CANNOT see all the previous bids so is ‘blind’ to who the highest bidder is. At the end of the auction, the concealed bids will be opened by a volunteer and the highest bidder wins the item. HERE IS A HINT on this auction: If you want an item, go BIG!
Rules: 1. You may deposit as many blind bids as you like during the auction period. 2. No peeking! Do not open the mystery box to peek at other people’s bids. 3. Did I win, did I win?! Silent Auction Rules What is a Silent Auction? A silent auction is one without an auctioneer. During the auction period (a set amount of time) bids are written down on a sheet of paper. The bidder can see all the previous bids logged onto the sheet. At the end of the auction, the highest bidder wins the item.
Rules: 1. Do you want that item? Then pony up! To place a bid, print your paddle
number in the next available bid space. Every bid sheet will have a minimum starting bid and bid increment. This will prevent you cheapskates from outbidding your neighbor by 1RMB. That’s only 15c US folks.
2. All new bids must be higher than the previous bid in order to be valid. 3. Please make sure when bidding you are following the “bid increment” rules. Each item lists the amount in which each the next bid must be raised.
4. Play fair. Please do not scratch out other peoples’ bids. 5. Oops! Bids may only be voided by an auction volunteer due to a valid bidding error. Drinking too much wine is not a valid bidding error.
6. Please ask for help if you find an invalid bid or make a mistake during bidding or you’re just plain confused with what to do.
7. What’s in it? What do I do with it? All known contents, restrictions, and
details of items have been indicated on product description sheet above the bid sheet.
8. Who Moved My Cheese? Please do not remove or relocate auction items or bid sheets. We know who you are.

Live Auction Rules What is a Live Auction?
For those of you that don’t know, an auction is a public sale of items, one by one, to the highest bidder for each item. To be the highest bidder, you reach deep, deep into your pockets and offer more money than anyone else. This allows you to hold your head higher than anybody else in the room for exactly 1.5 seconds.
Rules: 1. Quiet Please! Turn those darn cell phones off and for goodness sake; shut
your kisser unless of course it’s to banter with the auctioneer or to kiss your neighbor. If that’s not reason enough; please be quiet, so you can hear all the enticing item descriptions, and dig deep into your wallets so that you can make sure you are the winning bidder.
2. Have fun, drink a lot and pay way too much for all the items you purchase. 3. Bidding Paddles: Guests are issued one paddle with assigned number at
the time of check-in. Please don’t misplace your paddle throughout the evening. The auctioneer will only acknowledge bids from guest with “bid paddles”. (Please don’t bid with another person’s paddle as they will be responsible for payment). What you do with your paddle afterwards is your business.
4. If you want to bid on something, just raise your paddle to alert the Auctioneer. We won’t stop you if you want to stand up and wave your paddle high in the air if you really want the item. However; “Knocking down your neighbor is not considered a legal bid.”
