Delaware (1-0), coming off a 56-14 dismantling of downstate foe Delaware State in the season opener Thursday, heads to Easton for the first time in nearly 50 years and will look to continue its hold over the Leopards, who the Hens have defeated 12 straight times, including a 19-9 victory last season at Delaware Stadium. Lafayette (1-0), looking to rebound from a 1-10 mark a year ago, matched that win total in its season opener Friday night with a 24-10 win over Central Connecticut State.

LAST MEETING DELAWARE 19, LAFAYETTE 9 September 12, 2015 • Delaware Stadium • Newark, Del. NEWARK, Del. -- Delaware had to wait out an hour-long weather delay, but it was worth it as the Blue Hens kept Lafayette out of the end zone all night and collected their first win of the season with a 19-9 non-league football victory at Delaware Stadium. Delaware (1-1) forced three turnovers and held the Leopards (0-2) to just 270 total yards while the offense, playing its first game without leading rusher Wes Hills, piled up 257 yards on the ground en route to the win. The game was delayed for 70 minutes just before the start of the second half due to lightning in the area. Most of the game was played in the rain, including several heavy downpours. "We are thrilled with the victory," said Delaware third-year head coach Dave Brock. "Nothing was easy and it was a challenging night. I thought we played with incredible passion on defense and we played fast and physical and got after the passer. We talk about finishing all the time and tonight we did that." Sophomore Kareem Williams, pressed into duty after Hills broke his foot in last week's game, carried 14 times for 93 yards and was one of three UD runners with over 59 yards on the ground. Redshirt freshman quarterback Joe Walker who started his first career game, ran for 68 yards and scored a touchdown while redshirt freshman Thomas Jefferson picked up 59 more yards. On defense, Delaware picked off Lafayette quarterback Blake Searfoss once and recovered two fumbles while allowing just 270 yards, including only 55 on the ground. Searfoss hit on 13 of 24 passes for 171 yards. The Blue Hens had three sacks and four other tackles for loss on the evening.

HEAD COACH DAVE BROCK A new era of Blue Hen football began at the University of Delaware in 2013 led by head coach Dave Brock. Brock, a native of Moorestown, N.J. and a veteran of 22 collegiate seasons as an assistant coach, became just the fifth head coach of the Blue Hens since 1940. The University has produced six national championships, five national runner-up finishes, 20 NCAA Tournament appearances, 20 Lambert Cup trophies, three College Football Hall of Fame head coaches, and numerous All-Americans and National Football League players during that time. His four-year record at Delaware stands at 18-18 with a mark of 11-13 in league play. During his tenure, seven Blue Hen players have earned All-American honors, 21 have been named All-CAA, and over 50 have earned CAA All-Academic honors. In addition, four of his former players are playing professionally led by DT Zach Kerr (Indianapolis) and TE Nick Boyle (Baltimore) in the NFL, CB Travis Hawkins (Toronto) in the CFL, and RB Andrew Pierce (Tri-City) in the IFL. In addition to his head coaching duties, Brock has also taken over as quarterbacks coach in 2016 with longtime assistant Brian Ginn moving over to lead the tight ends. Highlighted by an exciting offensive attack and formidable special teams play, the Blue Hens found success in Brock’s rookie campaign in 2013 as Delaware produced an overall record of 7-5 and earned a fifth place finish with a 4-4 mark in the rugged Colonial Athletic Association. Delaware earned votes in The Sports Network Media Top 25 Poll every week during the season, peaking at the No. 15 spot on Nov. 4. Delaware jumped out to a 7-2 start that included big victories over No. 14 James Madison on Sept. 28 and a thrilling 32-31 last minute triumph over eventual NCAA FCS national runner-up Towson on Nov. 2. Two of Blue Hens’ five losses came by just three points or less and the squad was an impressive 5-2 at Delaware Stadium. A total of nine Blue Hen players received All-CAA notice led by defensive tackle Zach Kerr, who earned All-American notice and an invitation to the East-West Shrine All-Star Game and the National Football League Scouting Combine. Kerr (Indianapolis Colts) was one of three Blue Hens to sign NFL free agent contracts following the season, joining defensive back Travis Hawkins (New England Patriots) and offensive tackle Erle Ladson (Oakland Raiders). Delaware scored 30 or more points eight times and ranked No. 2 in the CAA in scoring offense (31.2 points per game) and No. 3 in passing offense (240.0 yards per game). On special teams, the Hens led the CAA in net punting, blocked punts for and against, and punt returns. The Blue Hens posted a record of 6-6 in 2014, including a 3023 overtime win at James Madison and a 31-28 victory at Albany. James Madison later advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Hens fell just short of a major upset in the season finale, falling to No. 6 ranked Villanova 35-28 in the final minutes of play. Delaware was led by a pair of All-Americans in tight end Nick Boyle and punter Eric Enderson along with first team All-CAA wide receiver Michael Johnson. Boyle, one of the nation's top tight ends, played in the prestigious Senior Bowl and was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by Baltimore. Enderson led the CAA and ranked No. 4 in the NCAA in punt-

ing average (44.9 yards per punt). During the 2015 season, Delaware posted a 4-7 record but posted victories over NCAA Tournament participants William & Mary (24-23) and New Hampshire (31-14) and suffered last minute setbacks to NCAA qualifier James Madison (24-21) and to then No. 6 ranked Villanova (28-21). In addition, Delaware trailed by just a single touchdown late in the third quarter against North Carolina before falling 41-14. The Tar Heels (11-3) ended the season ranked No. 15 in the nation at the FBS level. Brock, 49, came to Delaware after serving one season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under coach Kyle Flood at Rutgers University. In 2012, Rutgers posted a 9-4 record, won a share of the Big East title, and advance to the Russell Athletic Bowl. Prior to Rutgers, Brock coached at Boston College, Kansas State, North Carolina, Temple, Hofstra, Salisbury State, and Western Connecticut State. “The opportunity to coach at a place with such a storied tradition, in the footprint of where I grew up and where I have coached most of my life, is an honor for my family and I am humbled by the opportunity,” said Brock. “The University of Delaware represents excellence in academics and athletics and I want to thank the University for inviting me into the family.” The New Jersey native’s coaching career includes stops at North Carolina, Temple, Hofstra, Kansas State and Boston College. He has been an offensive coordinator for seven of those seasons and has mentored many NFL standouts, including Hakeem Nicks (Indianapolis Colts), Jordy Nelson (Green Bay Packers), and Marques Colston (New Orleans Saints). At Boston College, eespite being picked to finish last in the ACC's Atlantic Division in preseason media voting, the 2009 Eagles finished with an 8-5 record and came within one win of playing in a third consecutive ACC Championship Game. Brock spent the 2008 season as Kansas State's offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach after coaching the wideouts in 2007. Kansas State ranked 18th nationally in passing (269.6) and 19th in scoring offense (34.9). As offensive coordinator at Kansas State, Brock spearheaded a Wildcat offense that produced the 2008 Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year in wide receiver Brandon Banks and Kansas State's most prolific passer in school history in quarterback Josh Freeman. Banks set a Wildcat junior record with 67 receptions and 1,049 yards while Freeman became Kansas State's career leader in numerous passing categories in 2008. In 2007, Brock tutored Kansas State's Jordy Nelson, who was a consensus All-American and Biletnikoff Award finalist, as well as Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year Deon Murphy. Nelson, who became the Wildcats' first-ever offensive consensus All-American, ranked second in the nation in receptions (10.2) and receiving yards per game (133.8) en route to setting 11 Kansas State receiving records. Kansas State, which set school records for passing yards, completions and attempts in a season, also ranked 20th nationally in passing offense (285.4) and 21st in scoring offense (35.2). The Wildcats finished the season with a 3,000-yard passer, a 1,600-yard receiver and a 1,000-yard rusher for the first time in school history. He played linebacker at Ferrum (Va.) College before earning a bachelor of science degree in political science from Salisbury (Md.) State University in 1994.

in the game that sealed the victory. The four field goals was the most ever by a UD freshman and the most since Sean Baner had four against Bucknell in 2012. After Lafayette jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead on a 40-yard field goal by Jacob Bissell, the Hens reeled off 13 straight points on field goals of 19 and 45 yards by Raggo and a one-yard dive by Walker. Walker's touchdown was set up when senior defensive Vince Hollerman recovered a fumble by Lafayette backup quarterback Drew Reed at the Lafayette two-yard line with 6:36 left in the half. The Leopards cut the UD margin to 13-9 in the third quarter on field goals of 40 and 47 yards by Bissell, but the Hens got those back on two more three-pointers from Raggo, including a 20-yarder with 6:27 left that capped an 85-yard drive and the 22-yarder in the final minute. Sophomore defensive lineman Bilal Nichols recorded a career-high eight tackles and forced a fumble that safety Simba Gwashavanhu recovered with 4:55 left to set up Raggo's final field goal. Sophomore linebacker Charles Bell also added eight stops and intercepted a pass for the Blue Hens, who have now allowed just one offensive touchdown in two games this season.

LAST TIME OUT FOR DELAWARE NEWARK, Del. (Sept. 1, 2016) -- Wes Hills made up for a lot of missed time Thursday night in the University of Delaware football team’s 2016 debut at Delaware Stadium. Hills, determined to make his return a big one after sitting out all but the 2015 opener while recovering from a broken foot, did just that as the junior running back ran for 212 yards and scored two touchdowns, one on a 59-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, to lead the Blue Hens to a 56-14 victory over in-state rival Delaware State before an appreciative crowd of 17,835. The Blue Hens piled up 487 yards of total offense, including 395 on the ground, and a dominating UD defense forced six turnovers and held the Hornets to just 184 total yards in the complete victory. Delaware downed Delaware State for the seventh time without a loss in this in-state rivalry and in the process captured the 300th victory in the history of 65-year old Delaware Stadium. “This first game back meant a lot to me,” said Hills, who posted his fifth career 100-yard rushing game and recorded the ninth highest single game rushing effort in Delaware history. “Coach (Dave) Brock and my team put a lot of faith in me and I had no choice but to go out there and give it my all. Being back feels great, being in front of the Delaware fans is an incredible feeling. Nothing beats it.” The Blue Hens (1-0) drove 74 yards on their first drive and scored on a Jalen Randolph two-yard run just five minutes in to take a quick 7-0. They then promptly got the ball back when defensive end John Nassib intercepted a pass on Delaware State’s second play from scrimmage. Eleven plays later Delaware sophomore quarterback Joe Walker scored on a one-yard dive to push the lead to 14-0. Delaware never looked back as Hills scored on runs of 13 and 59 yards to push the lead to 28-0 at the break, Randolph scored his second touchdown of the game five minutes into the second half, and Walker added a 25-yard scoring toss to Diante Cherry 24 seconds later to push the advantage to 42-0. UD backup quarterback Blake Rankin added a 10-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Charles Scarff on the final play of the third quarter and sophomore linebacker Troy Reeder, a Delaware native playing his first game for the Blue Hens after transfering from Penn State, put the cherry on top with a 13-yard interception return for a touchdown 12 second into the final stanza. - over for more -

“I told the players before the game that I was going to relax and coach and they should go out and just have fun,” said Brock. “We have a close-knit group of guys who work hard with and for each other. You could sense that they were going to bring a lot of energy tonight. I am thrilled for them that they did that. The takeaways were fantastic, I thought we played smothering defense, ran the ball the way we want to run the football, and I think our passing game is going to be explosive. I’m excited about building on this. Wes is a year older and a year stronger. The things he does for this team are contagious. He helps us win in so many more ways than what you see.” Delaware sophomore Thomas Jefferson, the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Rookie of the Year, added 70 yards rushing while Randolph, who missed all but the first three games of the 2015 season himself due to an injury, picked up 55 yards. In addition to interceptions by Nassib and Reeder, junior linebacker Anthony Jackson picked off two passes. The Hens had just 12 combined interceptions over the last two seasons.

BLUE HEN SUPERLATIVES FOR SEASON OPENER • Delaware’s 56 points were its most since a 59-56 five-overtime loss to Richmond in 2007 and the most on opening day since a 62-21 win over Lehigh in 1993. The 56 points was also the eighth highest total among all FCS teams last week • The 395 yards rushing were the most by a Delaware team since gaining 443 against West Chester in 2000 and the 487 total yards were the most since a 500-yard effort against Rhode Island in 2013. The 487 yards was the 18th best mark among all FCS teams during the first week of the season while the 395 rushing yards was the third highest. • Delaware forced six turnovers on four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. That matched the most takeaways for the Hens since forcing six against Southern Illinois in a 2003 NCAA Tournament first round win • Delaware held a huge 22-minute advantage in time of possession

RUNNING DOWN HILLS Wes Hills’ 212-yard performance was a career-high, the ninth highest single game total in school history, and third highest ever on opening day at Delaware. The 212 yards were the most by a Delaware player since Andrew Pierce ran for 215 vs. Richmond during the 2011 season. Hills’ yardage was also the most of any running back in the nation at FCS last week and the sixth highest of any player in the country at any level (see below): NCAA Week 1 Top Individual Rushing Performances 1. Sam Benger (Carnegie Mellon) vs. Washington (Mo.) 251 2. Aaron Jones (UTEP) vs. New Mexico St. 249 3. Joey Valdivia (Lake Forest) vs. Beloit 224 4. Nick Chubb (Georgia) vs. North Carolina 222 5. LAST TIME OUT FOR LAFAYETTE NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Sept. 2, 2016) -- Drew Reed connected with Matt Mrazek for all three of Lafayette's touchdowns as the Leopards pulled away from Central Connecticut State for a 24-10 victory on Friday night at Arute Field. Reed was 31-of-42 for 316 yards and three touchdowns, while Mrazek reeled in six catches for 93 yards in the season-opening victory. Two of the scores came in the fourth quarter. The Leopards, who did not commit a turnover, forced five Central Connecticut State turnovers in the game and four in the first quarter. Lafayette led 10-0 after the first 15 minutes. On CCSU's first drive, LB Brandon Bryant popped the ball loose from the ball carrier near midfield and the Lafayette offense did the rest, covering 62 yards on nine plays. Reed looked sharp from the beginning, completing six of seven passes to three different receivers on the initial drive. The final completion was an 18-yard touchdown strike to the outstretched arms of Mrazek. The defense continued to force turnovers. Safety Draeland James picked off a pass at midfield and returned it 27 yards. The offense settled for a 35-yard Jacob Bissell field goal and a 10-0 lead with 7:31 left in the first. Sophomore CB Izaiah Avent, in the first start of his career, picked off a pass deep in Leopard territory. Classmate Jerry Powe followed suit, taking on a blocker out wide, forcing a fumble after the catch and then recovering on the sideline just before the end of the first quarter. Defensively, Powe led the team with 10 tackles while Michael Root added nine and Phillip Parham eight. The defense held CCSU to 85 rushing yards and 354 yards of total offense. Lafayette managed 22 rushing yards and 338 total yards while sporting a 10minute advantage in time of possession.

TALENTED FOURSOME SELECTED 2016 DELAWARE FOOTBALL CAPTAINS Four players with unquestionable talent and leadership abilities have been selected to serve as captains for the 2016 University of Delaware football team. In a vote of team members, junior linebacker Charles Bell, junior running back Wes Hills, senior running back Jalen Randolph, and senior safety Ryan Torzsa were selected to lead the squad during the much-anticipated upcoming season. “This is awesome,” said Delaware head coach Dave Brock, who will begin his fourth year at the helm Thursday, Sept. 1, when the Blue Hens host Delaware State at Delaware Stadium. “The vote was overwhelming in favor of these guys. They are all respected by their teammates and I know they are respected by the coaching staff.” Delaware will have as many as four captains for just the fifth time in school history and for the first time since 2014 when Nick Boyle, Patrick Callaway, Jake Giusti, and Michael Johnson led Brock’s squad.“We have four guys who are certainly impact players,” continued Brock of his captains. “They have each played a lot of football for us and they will be very important ingredients to our success in 2016. They check all the boxes from the standpoint of leadership, accountability, and trust. They are proven players and they are representative of the team.” Bell, a third-year team member from Conestoga, Pa. (Penn Manor HS), returns as one of the top defensive players in the Colonial Athletic Association and was a preseason All-CAA selection by the league coaches. He leads a defense that ranks among the top units in the NCAA and returns eight starters. He earned second team All-CAA honors a year ago when he led the team with 96 tackles (team-high 39 solo stops) while adding 1.5 sacks, three tackles for loss, one interception, one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He ranked No. 4 in the CAA in tackles with 8.7 per game. He is a business management major at Delaware. Hills, a fourth-year junior from Wildwood, N.J. (Wildwood HS), returns to action in the Blue Hen backfield this fall after missing all but one game a year ago when he suffered a season-ending injury in the season opener. A gifted athlete who is an elusive and punishing runner and one of the team’s top special teams performers, Hills ran for 88 yards in his only appearance a year ago vs. Jacksonville. In three seasons, he has piled up 1,121 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. He is a criminal justice major at Delaware.

GAME #2 • DELAWARE FOOTBALL MEDIA NOTES • DELAWARE VS. LAFAYETTE • 8 DELAWARE IN SEASON OPENERS University of Delaware Football opened its 125th season since 1889 last week when the Blue Hens defeated in-state foe Delaware State 56-14, snapping a two-game losing streak on opening day. Delaware had won two straight season openers - having defeated Jacksonville (Fla.) 51-35 in Dave Brock’s Delaware debut in 2013 and knocking off NCAA Division II West Chester (Pa.) 41-21 during the 2012 campaign - before falling at Pitt 62-0 in 2014 in Pittsburgh, Pa. and dropping a season-opening 2014 decision at home to Jacksonville (Fla.) last season. Delaware has won 8 of its last 12 season openers, falling only to NCAA FBS members Navy 40-17 in 2011, Maryland (14-7) in 2008, Pitt (62-0) in 2014, and Jacksonville (20-14) last season during that span. Delaware has opened the season at home 11 times since 2001 and played an FCS in the lidlifter eighth times during that span.

DELAWARE TOUGH IN HOME OPENERS Delaware is now 53-12 (.815) in home openers since Delaware Stadium opened in 1952 with the Blue Hens having won 10 straight prior to last year’s setback to Jacksonville. Still, the Hens have won 24 of their last 27 home debuts in these friendly confines.

DELAWARE VS. NON-LEAGUE FOES Delaware will take on its second of three 2016 non-league opponent this week when the Hens travel to Lafayette. The Blue Hens have enjoyed outstanding success vs. non-league opponents, especially at home where Delaware has currently won 24 of its last 26 contests against non-league foes following the 56-14 win over Delaware State last week. The Hens had won 22 straight games before falling to Sacred Heart by a 10-7 on Oct. 4, 2014. The Blue Hens had not lost to a non-league opponent at home since a 17-10 setback to former Northeast Conference member (and now CAA member) Albany on Sept. 16, 2006. That win streak included NCAA Tournament victories over Delaware State in 2007 and over Lehigh and Georgia Southern in 2010. Delaware will close out non-league play Sept. 17 at NCAA FBS foe Wake Forest of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Blue Hens won their final road game of the 2015 season (14-10 over Elon) but enter Lafayette having lost nine straight non-league road games since a 20-17 NCAA FCS Tournament semifinal win at Southern Illinois in 2007. The Hens’ most recent non-league road game was a 41-14 setback at FBS North Carolina last Sept. 26.

BLUE HENS AT DELAWARE STADIUM Blue Hens Win 300th Game at Delaware Stadium vs. Delaware State Delaware boasts one of the top home-field advantages in all of college football. Not only do Blue Hen fans turn out to Delaware Stadium each week - helping UD become the only NCAA FCS team in the nation to average 20,000 or more fans per regular season home game 12 seasons between 1999-2010 - they see consistently winning football. Delaware has won 43 of its last 62 home games (.693) and is 300-100-4 (.747) in 65 seasons all-time at Delaware Stadium, including a mark of 20-5 with eighth straight wins in the post-season. Delaware claimed its 300th win all-time at Delaware Stadium last week vs. Delaware State with a 56-14 victory. Delaware went 5-2 at home in Dave Brock’s first season at the helm in 2013, went 4-3 in 2014, and finished at 3-3 in 2015. The Hens are now 13-8 (.619) at Delaware Stadium in Brock’s four seasons and have posted a winning or .500 season at home nine straight years and in all but two seasons since 1984. Delaware has ranked in the top 10 nationally for home attendance among FCS programs each of the last 20 seasons since 1996. The Hens ranked No. 9 in NCAA FCS in average home attendance in 2015, averaging 15,826 fans per game. Montana led all FCS teams with an average home attendance of 24,319. Delaware’s attendance of 17,835 vs. Delaware State last week was the fifth highest among all FCS teams during the first week of the season, trailing only St. Francis at Montana (26,002), Morehead State at James Madison (23,626), North Alabama at Jacksonville State (22,116), and Charleston Southern at North Dakota State (18,881).

BLUE HENS EXTEND IMPRESSIVE SCORING STREAK AT DELAWARE STADIUM A rarity occurred Aug. 30 when Delaware was shutout in a season-opening 62-0 loss at the hands of host Pittsburgh. The shutout loss snapped Delaware’s streak of 220 straight games scoring a point - a streak that dated all the way back to a 27-0 setback to Villanova back on Sept. 14, 1996. It also marked the first time Delaware had been shutout on opening day since a 21-0 loss to Lehigh in the 1950 opener while also snapping a streak of 99 straight road games scoring a point. The 220-game streak was the longest among Colonial Athletic Association teams. That rarity happened again back on Oct. 10, 2015 when Delaware suffered a 20-0 shutout loss at Rhode Island, snapping streaks of 211 straight games scoring vs. FCS opponents and 156 straight games scoring in conference games. Both streaks dated back to the Villanova loss in 1996. The Blue Hens were also shutout by a 19-0 score at Towson on Oct. 31. - over for more -

GAME #2 • DELAWARE FOOTBALL MEDIA NOTES • DELAWARE VS. LAFAYETTE • 9 Still, one impressive scoring streak continues to live on for the Blue Hens. Delaware has not been held off the scoreboard at home at Delaware Stadium since suffering a 24-0 setback to Holy Cross back on Nov. 12, 1983 - a streak of 218 straight games. Delaware has been shutout just five times in its last 389 games since 1983 and just seven times in its last 489 games since 1975. In CAA play, the Hens have been shutout just three times in 241 games since joining the Yankee Conference (which became the Atlantic 10 and then CAA) in 1986 and have never been shutout in 121 conference home games at Delaware Stadium.

contests with 23 starts. A year ago he anchored a unit that helped Delaware rank No. 2 in the CAA and 17th in the NCAA in rushing offense (219.4 yards per game) and No. 4 in sacks allowed (1.64/44th in NCAA). “Connor brings an awful lot of experience and confidence to the lineup,” said Brock. “He is a very physical player and a guy we are going to count on to anchor our offensive front in 2016.”

DELAWARE AND THE NFL DELAWARE PICKED NO. 7 IN CAA PRESEASON POLL; BOZICK, BELL HONORED Most coaches will tell you that preseason polls mean absolutely nothing. Count University of Delaware football head coach Dave Brock among that substantial crowd. So when the Blue Hen football team was announced as the No. 7 pick in the preseason order of finish during the annual Colonial Athletic Association Football Media Day at M&T Bank Stadium back in July, it really didn’t matter. Whether the Hens had been picked No. 1 or No. 12, it all means nothing until the end of the season. “Media Day is an exciting way to kickoff a new season,” said Brock, who will enter his fourth season at the helm and will be looking for vast improvement from his 2015 team that went 4-7 and placed seventh in the league standings with a 3-5 mark. “I look forward to a great year of Delaware football.” In addition to the team rankings, Delaware linebacker Charles Bell and offensive tackle Connor Bozick were each named to the preseason All-CAA squad. Brock has every reason to believe that his squad has the potential to turn some heads. The Blue Hens return 18 starters from that squad, fourth highest in the league behind Towson (21), Albany (20), and preseason favorite Richmond (19). “We feel like all the pieces are in place for us to be a playoff team in 2016,” said Brock, who will be looking to lead UD back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2010 squad finished as national runner-up. “I look forward to getting underway. Our goal is always to be the best team in the best conference (CAA) in the country.” Richmond, which shared the league regular season title (10-4 overall/6-2 in league play) with James Madison (9-3, 6-2 CAA) and William & Mary (9-4, 6-2 CAA) last year and was one of four CAA teams to advance to the postseason, was the preseason favorite in the coaches/media relations representatives poll with 19 first place votes (out of 24 cast) and 282 total points. William & Mary was second with one first place vote and 250 points and James Madison was third with 209 points. Villanova was fourth with 197 points, New Hampshire was fifth with three first place votes and 186 points, and Towson rounded out the top half in sixth place with 180 points. William & Mary, JMU, and New Hampshire each advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago along with Richmond. Delaware took seventh place in the poll with 171 points and was followed by Stony Brook (111), Maine (107), Elon (72), Albany (69), and Rhode Island (37). Maine received one first place vote. Bell and Bozick, two of Delaware’s 10 All-CAA picks overall a year ago, led the preseason All-CAA team announced Tuesday. Richmond placed a league-high seven players on the preseason team, including preseason Offensive Player of the Year in quarterback Kyle Lauletta and preseason Defensive Player of the Year in safety David Jones. Bell (Penn Manor/Conestoga, Pa.) earned second team All-CAA honors from his middle linebacker spot in 2015 and returns to lead one of the top defensive units in the NCAA with eight returning starters. The hard-hitting linebacker led the team ranked No. 4 in the CAA with 96 tackles (8.7 per game) and also contributed three tackles for loss and an interception. As a team, Delaware finished in the national Top 25 in total defense, rushing defensive, and scoring defense. “Charles has proven himself to be an elite player in the CAA,” said Brock. “We look forward to him continuing to grow as a player and a leader for our defense and for our team.” The 6-5, 320 lb. Bozick (DeMatha Catholic/Severn, Md.) earned third team All-CAA honors in 2015 when he was one of four offensive lineman to start every game. A versatile player, Bozick will move from guard to tackle this season and will be one of just 10 seniors on the team. He has never missed a game since his redshirt freshman season and has played in all 35

Delaware football continues to make a big impact in the National Football League. Entering this week, six former Blue Hen standouts - were on NFL rosters following the cut down to 53-man rosters. That total ranks the Blue Hens tied for third nationally among FCS programs with the most current players on NFL active rosters (as of Sept. 6/source ESPN.com). Montana and North Dakota State lead the way with seven each followed by Delaware, Samford, and Northern Iowa with six each. Delaware’s list includes two-time All-Pro safety Mike Adams and DL Zach Kerr; former Super Bowl MVP QB Joe Flacco and TE Nick Boyle with Baltimore; LB Paul Worrilow with Atlanta; and OL Gino Gradkowski with Carolina. OL Erle Ladson (Cleveland), DB Marcus Burley (Seattle), and WR Andrew Opoku (Indianapolis) were each released by their teams earlier. And don’t forget former Blue Hen All-American QB Matt Nagy who currently serves as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. Flacco led Baltimore to a Super Bowl victory and was named the game’s MVP following the 2012 season. He will start for the Ravens for the ninth straight season this fall. Worrilow led the Falcons in tackles as a rookie free agent in 2013 and did so again in 2014 and 2015. Adams, a 12-year NFL veteran, led Denver to the Super Bowl in 2013 and Indianapolis to the AFC title game in 2014. He earned All-Pro honors in both 2014 and 2015. Two current UD coaching staff members also enjoyed week-long stints in the NFL earlier this summer as assistant coaches Henry Baker (New York Giants) and Dennis Dottin-Carter (Seattle) took part in the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship for the second straight year.

MORE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE TIES Current Blue Hen juniors Kareem Williams and defensive end John Nassib also have some strong ties to the National Football League as both have brothers playing with the New York Giants. William’s brother Andre, a 2013 Heisman Trophy finalist at Boston College, is a third-year running back with the Giants while Nassib’s older brother, Ryan, is a fifth-year Giants backup quarterback. In addition, another Nassib brother, Carl, was an All-American defensive end at Penn State in 2015 and was drafted in the third round of the NFL Draft by Cleveland and is currently playing with the Browns.

GAME #2 • DELAWARE FOOTBALL MEDIA NOTES • DELAWARE VS. LAFAYETTE • 10 Delaware could also appear a fourth time on Nov. 19 at home vs. Villanova - the 50th meeting all-time between the two rivals. The regular season concludes on Nov. 19 with CSN and ASN each picking a “wildcard game”, which will showcase the best matchups based on the conference standings. The networks will choose the games no later than two weeks in advance. In addition to the conference package, at least 10 non-conference contests featuring CAA Football teams will air on ESPN3.

HENS AND NORTH DAKOTA STATE ANNOUNCE SERIES The University of Delaware and North Dakota State University have agreed to a two-game contract for football games during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The announcement was made jointly by the two programs on Aug. 10. NDSU will host the Blue Hens in the season opener Sept. 1, 2018, at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome. Delaware will host the Bison at Delaware Stadium in Newark on Sept. 14, 2019. These will be the first two meetings between Missouri Valley Conference leader North Dakota State and Delaware, which plays in the Colonial Athletic Association. “We look forward to a tremendous challenge,” said Delaware fourth-year head coach Dave Brock. “We are excited to bring one of the elite programs in the nation to Delaware Stadium and look forward to that first meeting in 2018. Both administrations did a great job pulling together and making this happen.” Delaware won the FCS national championship in 2003 with a 15-1 record as a member of the Atlantic 10. The Blue Hens joined the CAA in 2007 and were national runners-up in 2007 and 2010. NDSU has won 20 straight FCS playoff games and five straight national titles since a 2010 quarterfinal overtime loss at Eastern Washington, which beat Delaware in the national championship. One of the two teams has played in each of the last six FCS national championship games and in 8 of the last 13. “We are thrilled to begin this football series with North Dakota State,” said Delaware Director of Athletics and Recreation Services Chrissi Rawak. “I know that Coach Brock and his team and certainly our fans will be excited to see the Blue Hens square off against a program that has been at the forefront of FCS football over the last five years. Two great football programs with longstanding traditions from different regions meeting up is a great thing for college football.” North Dakota State will be Delaware's first Missouri Valley Conference opponent since hosting South Dakota State on Sept. 11, 2010. Both teams annually rank among the national FCS leaders in home attendance. NDSU ranked No. 7 nationally in home attendance with a mark of 18,497 in 2015 while Delaware ranked ninth with an average home total of 15,826 a year ago.

rent CAA teams that have played more than two seasons, posting a record of 149-92, good for a .618 winning percentage. Delaware’s .618 winning percentage is tops among active CAA squads, surpassing Villanova (136-91, .599), James Madison (109-78, .583), William & Mary (106-80, .570), and New Hampshire (227-185-10, .550) in the top five. Old Dominion owns the top spot all-time with a .813 (13-3) win percentage but the Monarchs played just two seasons in 2011-12. Massachusetts went 236-139-4 (.628) in conference play before leaving for the MAC.

PRE-GAME WALK, POST-GAME ALMA MATER AMONG RECENT DELAWARE FOOTBALL GAMEDAY TRADITIONS Blue Hen fans are invited to join in on unique Delaware Football gameday experiences that began during the 2013 season. Fans can come out and greet members of the Blue Hen football squad during pre-game as they march down Stadium Drive escorted by the Delaware Marching Band, Cheerleaders, and Spirit Groups on their way to the locker room. The walk begins approximately two and one-half hours before kickoff. Fans were also invited to stick around after each home game and join the Blue Hens as they head to the southwest corner of the field to sing the alma mater along with the Delaware Marching Band. Also new in 2013, a member of the team who hails from the State of Delaware led the Blue Hens out of the tunnel waving the state flag accompanied by a teammate carrying the U.S. flag. 2016 Flag Bearers: Delaware State: LB Maurice Harley (US Flag); LB Troy Reeder (State Flag) Lafayette: TBA

NAME GAME Delaware’s roster has four sets of players who share the same last name, including two pairs of brothers in first-year Penn State transfer Troy Reeder and his younger brother, freshman linebacker Colby Reeder. Troy enjoyed an outstanding season with the Nittany Lions in 2015 and was one of the Big 10’s top freshmen before the transfer. The other brother set is a pair of twins in redshirt freshmen quarter Pat Kehoe and offensive lineman M.J. Kehoe. Delaware also has Brent and Bryan Reed and Diasjon and Steve Robinson but neither pair is related.

SMART GUYS! For the second straight year in 2015, the University of Delaware football team put a record number of student-athletes on the Colonial Athletic Association Academic All-Conference Team. Delaware, which led all league members with a school-record 28 selections in 2014, surpassed that mark with 30 student-athletes honored for the 2015 team. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average through the Fall, 2015 semester for their careers at the school. Delaware currently has 20 student-athletes - about 20 percent of the roster - who carry a cumulative 3.0 or higher GPA at Delaware led by RB Jalen Randolph, FS Ryan Torzsa, DB K.C. Hinton, LB Jalen Kindle, OL James Kretkowski, DL Christian Lohin, DL John Nassib, WR Vinny Papale, QB Christian Portale, K Frank Raggo, QB Blake Rankin, OL Bryan Reed, LS Tim Sheridan, DB Eric Skogmo, OL Peter Thistle, OL Collin Wallish (perfect 4.0), DL Armen Ware, LB Tommy Wilmoth, DL Blaine Woodson, and TE Kyle Yocum. Randolph is currently enrolled in Delaware’s MBA master’s program after earning his degree in health behavior science in May. He is a two-time CoSIDA District 2 All-Academic selection. Torzsa also earned CoSIDA District 2 honors a year ago.

DELAWARE’S CAA SUCCESS Delaware has enjoyed great success in conference play since joining the Yankee Conference (now the Colonial Athletic Association) back in 1986. The Blue Hens, who have won outright or shared nine league titles during that time, own the best record in league games among all cur-

GAME #2 • DELAWARE FOOTBALL MEDIA NOTES • DELAWARE VS. LAFAYETTE • 11 A BLUE HEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE...AND AT DELAWARE STADIUM When U.S. President Barack Obama and running mate, former Delaware Senator Joe Biden, won the 2008 presidential election, it was big news. And even bigger news for the citizens of Delaware and those affiliated with UD. In November, 2012, Obama and Biden were elected for another four-year term to lead the country. A 1965 graduate of the University of Delaware with degrees in history and political science, Biden played on the Blue Hen freshman football team in 1961 under head coach Scotty Duncan but did not play varsity football after that. Biden, a member of the UD Wall of Fame and an ardent Delaware football fan, considered himself “a half-baked halfback” during his brief UD football career. Biden made his first visit to Delaware Stadium as Vice-President on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2009 as he attended the Maine game and sat with UD President Patrick Harker and current New Jersey Governor and 2016 Presidential candidate Chris Christie (also a UD graduate) throughout the entire contest. He made another visit to Delaware Stadium in 2010 when he attended Delaware’s 16-3 NCAA quarterfinal win over New Hampshire on Dec. 10. He also attended the Hens’ 2010 national championship game in Frisco, Tex. with Christie and Delaware Gov. Jack Markell. Biden met with then head coach K.C. Keeler and members of the team on Sept. 19, 2008 when Biden’s plane was parked on the same tarmac as the Delaware charter at New Castle County (Del.) prior to its trip to Furman. Biden later made an appearance at the Blue Hens’ game vs. Maine at Delaware Stadium on Oct. 11, 2008.

2016 GAME BY GAME RECAPS #rv DELAWARE ........................................................56 Delaware State ........................................................14 September 1 • Delaware Stadium (17,835) NEWARK, Del. -- Wes Hills made up for a lot of missed time in Delaware’s 2016 opener. Hills, determined to make his return a big one after sitting out all but the 2015 opener while recovering from a broken foot, did just that as the junior running back ran for 212 yards and scored two touchdowns, one on a 59-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, to lead the Blue Hens. The Blue Hens piled up 487 yards of total offense, including 395 on the ground, and a dominating Delaware defense forced six turnovers and held the Hornets to just 184 total yards in the complete victory. Delaware downed Delaware State for the seventh time without a loss in this in-state rivalry and in the process captured the 300th victory in the history of 65-year old Delaware Stadium. The Blue Hens drove 74 yards on their first drive and scored on a Jalen Randolph two-yard run just five minutes in to take a quick 7-0. They then promptly got the ball back when defensive end John Nassib intercepted a pass on Delaware State’s second play from scrimmage. Eleven plays later Delaware sophomore quarterback Joe Walker scored on a one-yard dive to push the lead to 14-0. Delaware never looked back as Hills scored on runs of 13 and 59 yards to push the lead to 280 at the break, Randolph scored his second touchdown of the game five minutes into the second half, and Walker added a 25-yard scoring toss to Diante Cherry 24 seconds later for a 42-0 advantage. Backup quarterback Blake Rankin added a 10-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Charles Scarff on the final play of the third quarter and sophomore linebacker Troy Reeder, a Delaware native playing his first game for the Blue Hens after transfering from Penn State, put the cherry on top with a 13-yard interception return for a touchdown 12 second into the final stanza. Thomas Jefferson, the 2015 CAA Offensive Rookie of the Year, added 70 yards rushing while Randolph, who missed all but the first three games of the 2015 season himself due to an injury, picked up 55 yards. In addition to interceptions by Nassib and Reeder, junior linebacker Anthony Jackson picked off two passes. The Hens had just 12 combined interceptions over the last two seasons.
