Product Key Customers Benefits Intelligent "smart" object modeling and customization.... CATIA Piping Design provides a base object model that can implement basic piping behaviors, relationships and attributes. In addition, it allows the user to customize the object model by providing the ability to define sub-classes and add attributes.

Provides user defined ID rules for objects... Designers can define ID rules to specify their company-specific naming formats and conventions per objects. Additionally, ID rules can be assigned to individual classes of objects. When objects are created in the design document, their ID's will be generated automatically using the user defined ID rules.

2D/3D Integration... This capability optimizes the design process by providing the ability to propagate and streamline the data from the functional diagram to the 3D detailed design. Additionally, it integrates the two design stages and ensures that the design intent is captured at the detail design phase. Users can also access piping and instrumentation diagram lines and parts for 3D specification-driven design. Piping schematic-driven design dynamically maintains the consistency between the piping schematic information and the 3D design.

Creation and management of intelligent piping lines... Users can create piping lines with standard industry attribute information. In addition, designers can create their own attributes to be included on piping line definitions. Once a piping line is defined, it can be shared across multiple design documents to ensure consistency of the piping design. Piping Design 2 provides the ability to intelligently manage the entire membership of a piping line regardless of the fact that piping members might be added or removed during the design process. All piping line attributes can be renamed, deleted or modified easily.

Generate piping layout route definition... Piping Design 2 provides easy-to-use routing tools that allow the user to define a space claim early in the preliminary design stage. This capability allows the user to perform early interference detection and to uncover space contention early on. The

routing tools are integrated with the spatial definitions allowing the designer to easily route one or more pipes inside a pathway. Associativity is maintained so that if a pathway is modified, the piping will be adjusted automatically. The routing facility provides the user with multiple routing modes including orthogonal, point-to-point, directional, slope, and quick route...

Evolution from preliminary to detail design layout... Preliminary layouts can be evolved to detailed designs using standard piping parts and specification catalogs. Using this methodology, designers can progress to the final layout stage with greater speed and accuracy.

Selection of specification-driven piping parts... This function allows the designer to select parts from a catalog using specifications that are defined for a specific project to meet a precise context, such as temperature, pressure and corrosion allowance.

Function-driven piping parts placement... Users can capture the design intent for selected physical parts to ensure that modification scenarios are possible. Designers can lay out and model a 3D piping network either manually or automatically. If parts are based on user defined rules, such as branching or turning rules, much of the layout can be created automatically to optimize the total design process. Parts placement orients the selected part based on the defined compatibility rules, ensuring that the proper design is achieved. In addition, connectivity is maintained automatically. The user can now insert parts in the middle of a stretchable/bendable pipe. The product now supports the multiple placement of such parts as elbows, pipes, and pipes with bends.

Integrated dynamic rule triggering... During the preliminary and detailed design process, rule based design checking actions are automatically launched to validate the proposed design. For example, when a piping design route is defined, and then modified, a rule is triggered to analyze the maximum bend radius, minimum length and grip length. If piping parts are placed and then changed, rules are activated to confirm connectivity and compatibility. Users can modify existing samples or create their own rules to control the graphic representations of objects via knowledgeware.

Intelligent modification of piping objects and routes... Users can revise layouts and change route segments and nodes using offset and clearance capabilities. Piping parts and routes can be manipulated directly by pushing and stretching points, segments, and extremities. Piping part modifications propagate changes that will impact the design intent. For example, a size change will automatically force part re-sizing and placement. Similarly, a specification change will force a new part selection and placement. Connectivity is managed automatically throughout the entire modification process.

Query and analysis of piping parts and configurations... Key properties are readily available to the user at element pre-highlight. Users can perform a wide variety of queries and/or analysis to inquire about the specific properties of any object in the design document. This includes searching for objects in the design model based on object class hierarchy and attributes. Through a network analysis tool, designers can also query and analyze piping connectivity. Designers can browse through a piping parts catalog and search by catalog hierarchy, piping symbol geometry, or piping part technology. Likewise, they can search a piping specification catalog by exact specification data or by query definition or query results.

Drawing production customization... 8 introduces a customization tool for both single-line and double-line drawings. For single-line drawings, it performs graphic replacement based on true and rolled views. For double-line drawings, it uses a centerline display with customized extension lengths.

Dynamic isometric drawing generation... This powerful new function enables the user to interface directly to ISOGEN, a product provided by Alias and is considered the industry standard for Isometric drawing generation. CATIA provides an interactive front-end to ISOGEN that allows range definitions. This drawing capability automatically generates accurate and reliable isometric drawings from the 3D piping design by using customizable data from the setup feature. It is possible to define many isometric types such as, erections, fabrications, assembly, spool fabrications, and design checks. This means the information is readily presented for a given requirement. The ability of the product to generate and review isometrics interactively during the design cycle significantly improves the capability of the user to validate the design early on.

Powerful setup tools... The product now supports the use of multiple graphic representations for defining piping symbols when creating catalogs. The user can manage active graphic representations during the design process. The user can customize corporate data and define rules that will enforce company standards: such as defining piping specification and geometry definitions, plus equipment catalog building. An ANSI based piping starter catalog and starter tables, enables administrators to establish project specifications and standards that ensures a quality design.
