EFFECTIVE BUSINESS CONTINUITY MANAGEMENT Facilitator: Institute for Business Continuity Training (IBCT)

COURSE DESCRIPTION This five-day workshop provides practical tools and techniques for Business Continuity Planning, and a comprehensive overview and understanding of its principles, methodologies and best practices. The course also covers all major aspects for the design of an effective Business Continuity Plan for organisations in both the private and public sector.

BACKGROUND Business Continuity Management (BCM) is more than just “disaster recovery” it is about prevention of loss, and preparing for disruptive incidents that may cripple organisation functionality, or even causing operational ruining. The most common effects of disruptions were staff being unable to report to work due to travel difficulties or closures in school/childcare and business meetings being cancelled. A Business Continuity Plan can help when faced with that kind of organisation disruption. The Caribbean region is vulnerable to several naturally occurring hazards, such as a hurricanes and earthquakes, and while these ‘major’ incidents can have devastating effects on the unprepared organisation, even the socalled minor incidents, such as loss of key staff due to illness, loss of IT, loss of communication, overtime, can be just as consequential. It is for this reason that training in BCM is necessary. Such training can improve business resilience, increase reputation and ensure those customer requirements are continually met. The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in collaboration with the Institute for Business Continuity Training (IBCT) is pleased to offer this kind of training. IBCT [www.ibct.com] is an international Business Continuity Training company that offers online and onsite instruction in BCM throughout the world. Their expertise in BCM is well known, and a major goal of this collaboration is to increase the disaster resilience and economic stability of the Territory by helping organisations protect their essential processes in the occurrence of a major, or minor, disruptive event.

TARGET AUDIENCE This course is designed for executive, managers, business continuity planners and unit staff who are involved in or manage business continuity planning functions. It is also highly useful for internal and external auditors, records managers, information technology managers, administrative heads, and others responsible for the effective administration of any size organisation. The tools and techniques provided in the course are applicable to banking, insurance, manufacturing, health care, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and federal, state and local government organisations, in addition to international corporations and non-profit agencies.
