DGSA

AIR CARGO AVIATION SECURITY TRAINING

CONSULTANCY SERVICES

(DFT APPROVED)

When you send, carry or receive dangerous goods by road, rail or inland waterway, above a certain load size, and it is your main activity, you must appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA).

Both shippers and agents involved in air cargo have to take responsibility of the security of such cargo due to ongoing changes in the legislation.

The above rule applies to shippers, hauliers, carriers, packers, fillers, loaders and unloaders of dangerous goods.

As part of the validation process for the shippers (Known Consignors) or forwarders/agents (Regulated agents) training must be provided to those with access to air cargo. Delegates attending either course are required to be tested and successful delegates will receive a certificate which is valid for two years

Legislation states that ‘Dangerous goods’ are products that post a risk to health, safety, property and the environment, including clinical waste, acids, hazardous chemicals and explosives etc.

We offer DfT approved training to both Known Consignors and Regulated Agents on a request basis.

As part of our service we can offer our DGSA consultancy, which includes: • Initial DGSA site visit / audit. • Telephone and email support for your day to day interaction with dangerous goods for your team, for all modes of transport. • Annual report. Rates can be provided upon request, please contact us for more details.

Alternatively a nominated person within your organisation is required to hold the relevant qualification and can attend one of our DGSA training courses which are scheduled to coincide with the quarterly SQA DGSA exams. There are three exams which must be successfully completed within 12 months. We will provide delegates with all the required regulations and publications as part of your course fee and enrol the nominated person on your behalf.

Known Consignors The syllabus for Known Consignor training changed in 2012, Modules 1-8 cover the syllabus from basic security awareness to training for those responsible for security and dependant on the individuals job function? A test will be provided at the end to ensure understanding. Regulated Agents Training for Regulated agents, be they the forwarder, handling agent, airline staff and drivers involved in the transport of secure cargo has been compulsory for many years and again is dependant of the job function. A test is also required upon completion of this course. Level A – General Security Awareness – ½ day Level B – Drivers – ½ day Level D – Handling and preparing cargo – 1 day Level E – Cargo Screeners – 1 ½ days Level F – Supervisors – 2 days
