NTOC Annual Christmas Party December 13, 2015 The NTOC December 2015 Christmas Party at the Cowboy’s Golf Club was a great success. A couple of folks made some wrong turns, (one onto the Golf Cart Path) but it turned out that more than 60 NTOC members attended the dinner/gift exchange party. I had the salmon dinner and it was good, others commented that both the pork and chicken were also very good. After dinner Chris presented our annual membership awards with the Spark Plug Award going to John Liconte. John is always first to show up at a car show events where he holds priority locations for the other Oldsmobiles to be on display. Thanks John, we appreciate your efforts. John Bock was awarded the Outstanding Member Award for this year. In 2015, John headed up the search for the location for the Christmas Party, he led the group at the Dallas AutoRama, and promoted the development and purchase of carpet and stanchions for future NTOC Club displays. A busy year for John, thank you. John and Patricia were in Mexico so the award will be presented at the January meeting. The R.E. Olds Award went to Mike and Cindy Payton. The always there “Go To” couple from Waxahachie. No meeting is too far away, no project is too big, and there are no bigger Oldsmobile fans than the Paytons. Well deserved!! We did have members from Houston in attendance again. Pat and Margaret Yancey, as always, were in attendance. Juan and Maki, from Houston, made their second event with our group. The first was the trip to Nacogdoches, and what a great couple to have join us. And, we had the honor of having Tom and Sandi Roe join us from California/Florida? Tom and Sandi brought two Oldsmar 100th Year Anniversary T-Shirts for NTOC to give away at the party. They also invited NTOC members to join in the celebration in Oldsmar, Florida from March 28 through April 3, 2106. Thank you Tom and Sandi for your continuing support of the North Texas Olds Club. We are proud to have you as members!!

NTOC Shirt & Cap Orders

Many had expressed an interest in ordering more NTOC T-Shirts, Golf Shirts and Caps. I am currently getting a list together for orders. We will need a minimum amount of each before we can place an order. If you would like any of these items let me know. I will get pricing for each item and have them available at one of the meetings. So far I have only received 2 requests so until I have a significant amount to order I cannot place any orders for merchandise. You can see me at the meeting or email your requests Lois Liconte: [email protected] Page 12

January 2016

Then the gift exchange program started. This year was the most spirited event I can remember. Many desirable items were opened, stolen, and frozen. All in the spirit of good nature. (Well maybe NOT ALL.) The evening ended with a few “trades” and I expect some items that we will see again next year.

Helena Isbell reported on the scheduled date for NTOC to go to Fisher House to provide a meal for the families of veterans who are lodged at Fisher House while they have a family member at the Veteran’s Hospital. Helena said the menu for our group will be “Soup and Sandwiches”. This is a voluntary activity for any members of NTOC who want to contribute either food or food and time to serve the families of Veterans who have served our country. For members who volunteer to serve we will be providing the noon meal, interacting with the families, and cleaning up the kitchen after lunch. The Fisher House is in the Veteran’s Hospital Complex in South Dallas Area (4500 S. Lancaster Rd # 140, Dallas, TX) Helena is coordinating our activities and will provide information about the best way to go to the Fisher House and when to arrive. If you are interested in participating please let us know at the January meeting or contact Helena Isbell ([email protected]). Auto Rama 2016 Plans John Bock has located a source of dark gray carpet for the display area with the estimated cost to be around $250.00 for carpet to cover an area 20 feet X 60 feet. The purchase has been approved and Lawrence Dagate has volunteered to store the carpet in his building when the carpet is not in use. The NTOC Club stanchions were ordered and will be ready for the AutoRama Display. The price is $250 per stanchion. A decision was made that we would need at least 10 of this particular stanchion if we were going to be able to close off the six cars in the NTOC display. At $250 each the cost to the club was felt to be more than we should spend, however (continued on next page)

eleven (11) members volunteered to purchase one each and to loan them to the club for displays. If you are one of the NTOC members who committed to purchase a stanchion you need to contact John Bock to make arrangements to pay if you haven’t already paid. As was reported last month the club did commit to purchase two (2) of the stanchions and the carpet for the Club Display. The individuals would then be able to use the stanchions independently when at other car show events. Total purchased = 13. These can also be stored at Lawrence’s building.

Mike Bunzel provided some information about the Bankhead Highway Cruise celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the 1916 Road & Bridges Act that was initiated to provide crosscountry travel paths. The Texas part of the event will start in Texarkana and end in Odessa. Dates: April 21, 2016 to April 25, 2016 - Limited entries 1975 or older. There will be several groups of cars with the older cars limited to 28 miles per hour. Go on-line to check out the schedule and route at Bankhead Highway 100th Anniversary. Entry fee is $40.00 per car and eligible cars can do part or all of the route. New Information I talked with the Texas event coordinator from the AAIAA Car Group. The plan is to limit the participants to between 60 and 65 vehicles that will be selected based on the early registration information and if the group is not filled later registrations. As of January 2, there are 28 registered cars with 24 registered for four days/five nights and four cars registered for 3 days four nights. I have provided a copy of the registration form in this Rocket. If I understand the requirements for this Bankhead Highway Tour it is not open to everyone. You must make application to AAIAA to be considered. Consideration will be under the following conditions: 1. 1920’s vehicles, touring all four days, then three days, then two days, and last for only one day. 2. 1930’s vehicles, touring for four days, then three days, then two days, and last for only one day. eleven (11) members volunteered to purchase one each and to loan them to the club for displays.
