We Will Never Forget.....

September 2016

(Bill information courtesy of Wikipedia.com)

We united as a country centered on this mantra, which somehow gave every American the strength to cope with the days to follow. It somehow comforted America in the days, weeks, years after the terrorist attacks on our soil on September 11, 2001. Patriot Day is observed as the National Day of Service and Remembrance in memory of the 2,977 people killed in the attacks. A bill to make September 11 a national day of mourning was introduced in the U.S. House on October 25, 2001 by Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY) with 22 co-sponsors, comprised of eleven Democrats and eleven Republicans. The bill requested that the President designate September 11 as Patriot Day. Joint Resolution 71 passed the House by a vote of 407–0 and the bill passed the Senate unanimously on November 30. President George W. Bush signed the resolution into law on December 18 as Pub.L. 107–89. On September 4, 2002, President Bush used the authority of the resolution to proclaim September 11, 2002, as the first Patriot Day. The United States of America is still the BEST country in the world. Over the years, this nation has been deemed as one of the greatest and most powerful in the world. While these attacks were meant to destroy us, they did not. We united and will never forget. In the hours after September 11, we came together as one to answer the attacks on our homeland. The resiliency of America showed brightly in the months to follow as neighbor helped neighbor and new friends were made during the difficult months ahead. Just months before this tragedy, Lincoln Property Company was set to begin a new era of military housing. After this attack, we recommitted ourselves to serving those that were on the battlefield protecting our nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic. As Lincoln Military Housing, our commitment to the men and women of the US Armed Forces has never wavered. We stand beside you as you fight for us each day and it is our honor to serve you and your families. “Every Mission Begins At Home” is the tag line on our letterhead and it is engrained in our hearts. We know the key to mission success is a happy, healthy home, which is why our battle cry can be heard from our Lincoln family from coast to coast. We are here to ensure your family is well taken care of from our superb Housing staff to the knowledgeable Maintenance team to the friendly Community Services Department. We stand together in this mission to serve and we will NEVER forget!

Relocating Within LMH

Dahlgren: Townhomes Lincoln Military Housing (and its parent company, Lincoln Property Company) offer a wide selection of housing for service members and their families. Each month a district will be featured so that you can learn more about what Lincoln has to offer within its communities across the United States. 55 miles south of Washington DC, Dahlgren is located in the historic Northern Neck of Virginia. Framed by water between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers and adjacent to the Chesapeake Bay, this historic area enjoys mild weather with average winter temperatures in the 30s and summer temperatures in the 90s. Lincoln Military Housing provides 203 homes within five communities that serve the Naval Support Activity South Potomac at Dahlgren. One of these communities is the Dahlgren Townhomes, serving E1-O3. The Townhome community offers spacious two and four bedroom homes with an attached garage, central heating and air conditioning, privacy fences, and more. Within the community, you will find playgrounds, basketball courts, walking trails, and picnic areas. Base amenities include a movie theater, fitness center, bowling alley, library, exchange, and commissary. There is a two pet maximum for either cats or dogs. Younger residents attend the renowned Dahlgren schools (Pre-K through 8th grade) located on base at the only DoD Navy school in the country. King George Middle and King George High Schools are just minutes away from the base for older kids. The dynamic Community Services department has a mission: “To improve the quality of life for our military residents through programs designed to strengthen personal connections between neighbors and to partner with like-minded local organizations to support this goal”. To learn more about this fantastic community, contact Tameka Hart-Freeman, District Manager at tfreeman@lpsi. com or call the District Office at 540-663-2190. Living Green Tips September: Going Green for School • Getting a new computer or other electronics for school? Make sure to purchase energy efficient models. To dispose of old computers, contact a local school or non-profit organization and ask if they could use your computer. • Use reusable lunch bags for children’s lunch. Pack healthy fruits and vegetables instead of prepackaged snacks and a reusable water bottle or thermos for their drinks instead of prepackaged drinks. Check Pinterest for kid friendly lunch ideas. • Academic paper use generates mountains of waste—28 pounds per year for each student, teacher and staff member in one New York City school alone. Choose processed chlorine free (PCF) paper, avoiding releases of dioxin and mercury in the bleaching process, and the highest percentages of recycled post-consumer waste (PCW) available. • Choosing refillable pens and pencils will not only save on waste, but will also save your wallet! • Use rechargeable batteries for calculators instead of buying new ones every time they die. • If clothes still fit, encourage children to wear them and just mix in a few new pieces instead of buying all new clothes. If they no longer fit, donate them to charity where someone will be able to use them or sell them to a consignment shop. • Cover school books in paper instead of plastic. Not only will it protect children’s books, it will be environmentally friendly and they can decorate it to fit their own personal style. • As always, set a good example for your children by reducing, reusing, and recycling! It will make a difference!
