Welcome to Chudleigh Christmas Fayre Chudleigh’s Christmas season kicks off on Thursday 8th December with a Christmas Fayre in the Town Centre, organised by Chudfest in partnership with Chudleigh Town Council. There are still a few details to confirm, but hopefully there’s enough information here to encourage you to come along on the night and join in. For updates and reminders, keep an eye on the Chudfest website and Facebook Page or visit the information point in the Town Hall on the night. The Town’s children will be joining Father Christmas and this year’s Carnival Royalty in a Lantern Parade from the church to the War Memorial as the Christmas lights are switched on. We owe a huge debt of thanks to Alexander Clifford and Ugbrooke Estates for supplying the tree at the War Memorial; to Haldon Forest Park for supplying the tree for the Churchyard, and to Marcus Arden from Whiteway for delivering it. Many people have helped organise this Christmas Fayre or the Christmas lights. In particular, we’d like to thank the following for their generous support: Chudleigh Business Guild; Chudleigh Carnival; Chudleigh and Bovey Tracey Rotary Club; the Town’s retailers (for donation of electricity); the Staff of Chudleigh Town Hall; and Gina Sherwood and friends.

Entertainment Throughout the evening, there will be a variety of live entertainment around the town. Whether your preference is for traditional carols and bell-ringing, or more modern music, there should be something to suit your tastes. The Church Bells will precede the Lantern Parade; the Handbell Ringers will be performing in the Woodway Room; there will be Christmas Carols at the church and in the Square; there will be music and entertainment in the Phoenix Gastro Pub from 6.45pm to 8pm (see Chudfest website for details), and Choir 86 will be singing carols outside the Town Hall from 6.45pm to 7.30pm. Then there’s more entertainment in the Library from 7pm to 7.45pm: Chudleigh Shantymen singing carols and their traditional material, then the Chudleigh Singers performing a selection of carols. Mulled Wine and Mince Pies will also be on offer in the Library to all who attend (until stocks run out!). Look out for programme updates on www.chudfest.co.uk/Christmas-fayre and on Facebook

Father Christmas Once again, Father Christmas will be entertaining children in his grotto from 6.30pm until 8pm. He will be accompanied by his elves, and Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer will also be on hand for that festive photo opportunity. Entrance to the grotto is free and each child will receive a seasonal memento of the evening. Page 7

Competitions Pound a Pop This is a simple way to make a contribution, with the chance of a big prize. Pop a pound in the envelope and write your name and phone number on the label. At 8pm, we will pick just one envelope out of the barrel (much better odds than the Lottery) and the winner takes 50% of the money. The remainder goes towards the Christmas Lights fund. Last year’s winner took home over £300! Envelopes are available throughout November at: Valerie Ann Hair Fashions; Diamond Cut; The Globe; Gina Sherwood at UKGetActive, and The Bishop Lacy. Or you can get one on the night: look out for our dynamic duo, the Two Vals, out on the street, or pop along to the Information Point in the Town Hall.

Christmas Windows (Sponsored by Chudleigh Business Guild) Open to all businesses with a shop window in the town centre; no entry fee— just a fun way to help get the town ready for Christmas. Plus you have the chance to win free membership of the Chudleigh Business Guild for 2016/7, wine and chocolates. Whether it’s a traditional Nativity scene, a flashing Santa, or something in between— let loose your creative streak. Judging will take place during the week commencing 5th December and prizes will be given out at 8pm on 8th December. And this year, you have two chances to win. Tracey Nixon, from last year’s winner, Phoenix Gastro Pub, will be our adult judge, and will be awarding the CBG membership prize. A team of children from the Primary School will also be judging the entries, and will award the other prizes.

New This Year: Festive Dogs (Sponsored by Pet’s Corner) A chance for the dog lovers in town (and we know there are loads of you) to show off your pooches. See panel opposite for details. Page 19
