TYPES OF CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT REGIMES Registration of approved patterns

MODE OF REGULATION The patterns of all weighing and measuring instruments for trade use have to undergo pattern testing (evaluation type testing by accredited testing labs or those recognized by OIML). Directorate of Metrology through issuing authority will assess the test report and supporting documents to decide on pattern approval. All approved patterns will be entered into the Register of Approved Patterns.

Verification of weighing and measuring instruments

All weighing and measuring instruments for trade use shall be verified by Regional Verification Offices. For specific usage instruments, Directorate of Metrology did the test. Instrument meeting the prescribed requirements are stamped and deemed fit for trade used.

Post-market surveillance

Verification Inspectors from Regional Verification Offices have the general supervision and all the powers and discretion under the Legal Metrology Law and Consumer Protection Law.
