AGILITY & JUMPING QUALIFIER REGULATIONS ELIGIBILITY FOR ALL AGILITY COMPETITIONS

The YKC hosts various agility competition finals at Crufts with certain ways in which to qualify. Each individual competition follows different rules which are summarised below.

Please ensure that you read each individual section to find out further information regarding restrictions and rules/regulations.

These rules are for the Young Kennel Club competitions and should be read in conjunction with the specific Agility Regulations (H).

Dogs entered must be registered at the Kennel Club in accordance with Kennel Club Regulations for Classification and Registration B. If your dog is a rescue or crossbreed, the Kennel Club has an Activity Register for dogs that do not qualify for the breed register.

YKC Agility classes which qualify members to take part at Crufts are held at appointed licensed agility shows throughout the year, these classes can be found at www.ykc.org.uk.

When it states there are 6 sub-divisions or classes these relate to the age of the handler and the height of the dog as follows:

Under 12 (Handlers 6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday) Large Dogs Under 12 (Handlers 6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday) Medium Dogs Under 12 (Handlers 6 years and up to, but not including 12th birthday) Small Dogs 12 Years and Over (Handlers 12 years and up to, but not including 18 th birthday) Large Dogs 12 Years and Over (Handlers 12 years and up to, but not including 18th birthday) Medium Dogs 12 Years and Over (Handlers 12 years and up to, but not including 18 th birthday) Small Dogs

The YKC Office will place handlers in the correct division in accordance with their age group on the first day of Crufts.

Where points are accumulated throughout the year these will be allocated to the specific handler and dog partnership (no substitution of dog or handler may be made).

Standard agility marking will apply, including the counting of any time faults.

The Judge will set the course.

No persons shall carry out punitive correction or harsh handling of a dog at any time.

Food shall not be carried in the hand or given to a dog in the ring.

All competing dogs must be aged 18 calendar months or over on day of competition.

If a member is disqualified, the qualification does not roll down to the next placing

A dog must not compete in the same class more than once, including special classes. (Regulation G24. J)

YKC AGILITY DOG OF THE YEAR 

Members aged 6-17 years can take part in these qualifiers.

There will be six classes as defined in the eligibility section.

The first and second placed handler and dog in each subdivision at each qualifying class will be invited to take part in the YKC Agility Dog of the Year Semi Final at Crufts provided that at least six dogs are entered into the division AND complete the course i.e. dogs are not eliminated.

If less than 6 dogs complete the course (are eliminated) or less than 6 dogs are entered into the category then the first placed dog and handler only will qualify.

SMALL, MEDIUM AND LARGE ABC AGILITY 

Members aged 6-24 years can qualify for these Crufts classes by collecting agility show points held at Kennel Club licensed events in an Agility Record Book, including junior classes, during the year.

There are three ABC classes divided by dog size alone: Large ABC Agility, Medium ABC Agility, and Small ABC Agility.

Open to all dogs excluding Border Collies, Working Sheepdogs and any of their crosses (ie: neither parent can be a Border collie or Working Sheepdog). In the event of a dispute over the parentage of a dog, a decision will be left to the judge’s discretion.

To enter a Kennel Club licensed show you will need to have your dog measured to ensure you compete at the correct height of Small or Medium (large dogs do not require measuring)

 YKC/AG

You can have your dog measured from fifteen months old. Issue 6 Page 2 of 7

December 2015

You will need a Kennel Club Agility Record book into which the measurer will record your dog’s height category.

You can obtain an Agility Record Book from the Kennel Club online shop.

The Agility Record Book is a permanent record of your dog’s wins to assist in assessing eligibility to compete in these classes.

Your points must be submitted to the YKC office in an agility record book (photocopies preferred) or by the electronic Agility Warrant Claim Form. No other format is accepted and will be returned.

You can download the Agility Warrant Claim Form online on the Kennel Club website.

You can obtain a covering sheet from http://www.ykc.org.uk/content/compete/dog-agility-jumping training-competing/competing-in-agility/ which you will need to send in with your Agility Record Book or Agility Warrant Claim Form to state which Crufts classes you wish to enter.

Members must have obtained a minimum of 50 points to be eligible to enter this competition, please do not send your points in if you have less than 50 for the year.

All members who send in their points will be added to a score table. The highest scoring members will then be invited to enter the competition.

Points will be the same as those used for agility classes under the Agility warrant scheme as detailed in the Agility record book.

Only points that are awarded in Agility classes will be accepted. We are unable to accept points that are awarded in Jumping for entry into the Agility competitions.

If handlers other than the member entering the competition run the dog, you will need to highlight the rounds that the competing member ran with the dog only.

Points obtained are taken from 1 January to the 30 November each calendar year. The dogs Agility Record Book or a copy of the book must be sent into the YKC office by the owner/handler by 1 st December (postmark) of each year.

Due to the large number of record books we receive, we are unable to confirm receipt of each book. Please send your book by recorded delivery or include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you wish to confirm receipt.

Books that do not include a self-addressed stamped envelope will be posted back second class therefore we cannot take responsibility if the book is lost in the post. Photocopies of the record book sent into us are advised.

Standard agility marking will apply, including the counting of any time faults.

December 2015

 YKC Team Agility classes which can qualify members to take part at Crufts are held at appointed licensed agility shows throughout the year, these classes can be found at www.ykc.org.uk.  Teams must consist of 5 dogs handled by 5 separate handlers, plus 2 reserves.  The team must consist of handlers aged 6 years and up to but not including 18th birthday.  One handler can be aged 18 years and up to but not including 25th birthday.  Handlers are placed into the age group in accordance with their age on the first day of Crufts, not on the day of the qualifier, this includes the team reserves.  Once a handler or dog has run for an YKC Team in an YKC Team Agility qualifying event they cannot run for another team. (Handlers or dogs entered as reserves may run or be entered as reserves for a different team provided they did not run in the original team’s heat).  The team may include dogs from any of the three size classifications (e.g. Large, Medium or Small).  Teams that have previously qualified cannot enter further heats for competition.  Teams should represent a KC club or group of clubs and handlers may be from different clubs.  The team members and dogs that qualified (including reserves) will be the final team and no changes will be permitted after the qualifier.  The five dogs will be individually timed (not relay) and the combined score/time of the best four in the team will decide the results. Elimination will incur 50 faults – scoring will continue – handlers must make a genuine attempt to complete the entire course if the dog is happy to continue.  By counting only four out of five scores nobody can let the team down, whilst it is still competitive within the team to get one of the four best scores. In the event of a dog and handler pulling out at the last minute the team can still compete with four dogs.  Standard agility marking will apply, including the counting of any time faults.  The first and second placed team from each heat will qualify for the final, which will take place at Crufts.  In the event of only one team entering a heat, the team will run in the heat and providing no more than two dogs are eliminated, the team will qualify. 18-24 YEARS AGILITY

YOUNG KENNEL CLUB RULES The YKC will only accept wins from classes at approved qualifying events as listed on the YKC website. Any award from a show which has not been approved by the YKC Management Team will not qualify for Crufts. It is important that you check that the wording in show schedules corresponds with the wording printed in these regulations; if in doubt please contact the Young Kennel Club Team before entering. YKC Competitions

In order to enter any YKC competition, you must be a fully paid up member at the time of entry and competition. If you enter a Crufts qualifier and you have not previously paid your membership fee then any award will be forfeited. Therefore it is important to renew and maintain YKC membership as current if you wish to participate in YKC competitions.

Please bear in mind that handler’s ages are calculated on the first day of Crufts not on the day of the qualifier

Members will be placed in the correct age group by the YKC Office.

Handlers who are 25 years and above by the first day of Crufts are no longer eligible to be a YKC member and can therefore not compete.
