If African students travel more than any other nationality, and going abroad is a good educational investment, then why hasn't Africa's standard of living drastically increased? Are we less intelligent than people of other nationalities? NO, NO.

In fact, some of the brightest minds of this planet are from African descent. Africans are smart; there is no doubt about Target: Research grant that. In fact, there is something about having been brought up in extreme poverty that tends to sharpen the mind. So what is the problem? I believe it can be explained in two words: our mindset!!! – We tend to give the human mind less credit than it deserves. Do you know that experts agree that unconsciously we can program our mind to lead us to success or failure?

People of other nationalities usually go abroad to "become somebody." They go abroad with the following goals: finding a place in one of the best, most in-demand programs in their field of studies and landing the best job afterwards. What’s the dominant mindset in Africa? More often than not, here is the thinking of process of African candidates for studying abroad: 3 steps and one resolution. (Step 1) save the money; (step 2) secure an admission into ANY program (rarely matters which one); and (step 3) get into that plane and (the resolution) NEVER SET FOOT IN AFRICA again, no matter what it takes. Becoming somebody, doing something to help the community back home—these goals rarely come to mind. As discussed below, what many fail to see is that this way of thinking predisposes them to troubles abroad. You cannot sow corn and harvest peanuts!!!

Because their studies will become only a secondary concern; our brains only have so much space, and there are only 24 hours in a day. you, and you are willing to violate all your moral standards to survive. But have you ever stopped to think that maybe something BETTER could be in store for you? - Something definitely within your reach?

Other nice opportunities this month FOR 100s of scholarships - CLICK HERE

Our advice? Before getting onto that plane, please make sure you have planned everything carefully (career-wise, program-wise etc…) ahead of time. Please keep in mind that the right objectives for heading abroad include working to become the best in your field, and do your utmost to take advantage of the tools and opportunities that will come your way. You will also need to work a little bit before heading home after you complete your studies (highly recommended) – take this into account as you make plans during the first months after your arrival. Keep your eyes on succeeding and not on disappearing from the surface of the earth (after all, something or someone might catch up with you sooner than you think) - that is the way.

Someone who goes abroad with the “I will never set foot in Africa no matter what it takes" mindset is lost to Africa and its populations Someone who goes abroad to succeed through education may one day with God's help make a difference in the lives of their fellow Africans

Scholarships for African Students - Administration

http://helpforafricanstudents.org/scholarships-for-african-students/admini...

Truth be told, there are thousands of African students heading towards joblessness after graduation as we speak - The good news is, in most cases, something can still be done - Providing advice is the aim of our "joblessness after graduation series". As we mentioned over and over during the past year, a single piece of information you stumble upon can mark the difference between you succeeding or failing in life. Information is vital. Let's talk fields of study this year! How much do you know about your field of study/neighboring fields? What are the job opportunities for someone with your profile? Have you ever wondered if a neighboring field of study would offer you better job opportunities? Would you like some advice? Would you like to hear from those who have gone before you and managed to be successful in their career? IF your answer is YES, you will love our upcoming newsletter series. As we mentioned in our previous edition, starting this month, edition after edition, we will be going over various fields of study and providing advice to students.

_________________________________________________

This month, let's finish with what we started in our previous newsletter edition: career opportunities in the field of law. Whether or not you are a law student this concerns you would be amazed at how interconnected fields of study are. Please join us in expressing our sincere gratitude to Pastor John Olusola Baiyeshea. Dearest Pastor Baiyeshea, we want to thank you for taking some time out of your very, very busy schedule to reach out to African students. Because a single piece of information a student stumbles upon can mark the difference between him/her succeeding or not in this life you can understand how invaluable sharing your experience and views on the topic “Law Studies in Africa” is. Instances such as this one are rare, so we want to thank you again.

OK..............Let's give the floor to our interviewers, Ms. Fisayo Aransiola and Fela Bright:

1.

Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

A: My name is John Olusola Baiyeshea. By title, I am a pastor. By rank, I am a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. 2.

Q: What is your highest qualification?

A: I have three postgraduate qualifications, in the following order: Master of Law, Master of Philosophy of Law, and Master of Divinity in Theology. 3.

Q: How long have you been in this field? th

A: This is my 30 year. I was called to the Bar in July 1982. I graduated from the University in 1981. 4.

Q: What do you do?

A: I practice law generally: civil, criminal, commercial, litigation, land, labour, human rights issues, family law, etc, etc. 5.

Q: What link does your title as a pastor have with law?

A: Those are two separate vocations. Law is my profession; divinity is a calling. I have a calling as a pastor, and I had to properly train to be a pastor. God helps me to blend the two together. Religion has to do with what God teaches and also the civilized standard of human behaviour. Also in law, the rules and laws are in place to make people in the world live in an orderly manner - that we don’t live in a banana republic where everybody does what he likes. Then again, God sets standards from the word "Go." When the children of Israel were going through the exodus (when they left Egypt), God started prescribing the law to them. He knew that they would have to live under authority. He gave them the first commandments. Those are a set of rules and laws within the human society for people of God to obey God and live in an orderly and peaceful manner. And so, the law that we practice also took its root from God’s law and developed. When we talk of fundamental human rights (HR) principles, the Bible is replete with fundamental HR principles. A good example was when the Apostle Paul was facing trial and argued his case. He said, “Can a Roman citizen be condemned without being heard?” He was asking fundamental issues of law on fair hearing which we have developed in constitutions and all other documents. There is a way God helps me to blend both together and find help. Actually, the two are not mutually exclusive, they are mutually complementary. So for me, it is a good position and an advantage. I’ll share some literature with you to peruse so you can see how I have been able to blend both together. 6.

Q: Does it mean there has never been a conflict of interest?

A: I hardly have any conflict of interest. One basic area where you may think of conflict is divorce. And that is a family law matter. The organic law, that is, laws of the land, have made provisions for people who feel that marriage is no longer worthwhile. If they want to quit, they can quit. In the Matrimonial Causes Act, the provisions of the law recognise that marriage is very sacred and that makes the conditions very rigid. In fact, the law prescribes that you have to prove that the marriage has broken down irretrievably. It is a very tall order and many people are not able to prove that. As
