Day 2 San Salvador, Joya de Cerén, Suchitoto, San Salvador Breakfast. Visit to Joya de Ceren archaeological site declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Joya de Ceren is known as the “Mayan Pompeii”, in which you can appreciate the pre-Columbian lifestyle and dwelling of a Mayan settlement that was covered with ashes stemming from the eruption of the Caldera volcano over 1400 years ago. You can see several house structures in good condition as well as a Temezcal, also known as a Mayan Sauna, and visit its museum which exhibits different cooking and farming utensils. Transfer to Suchitoto means “Flower Bird City” in the Nahuat language, and this city is famous for its architectural style, its cultural traditions, and its local festival in February. Suchitoto had an economic boom in the colonial era through the export of indigo dye to Europe. Visit an indigo workshop to learn about the traditional process of coloring cloths. Then visit the “Centro de Arte Por La Paz” which aims to promote a culture of peace through of the arts. Then visit the Santa Lucia Church, art galleries, Portales, and parks. Back to San Salvador. Day 3 San Salvador, Cerro Verde, Ataco, San Salvador Breakfast. Visit to “The Volcanoes National Park”. Walking tour through the tropical forest located within a huge crater at 2,000 meters above sea level, a perfect place to take pictures of Coatepeque lake, the Izalco volcano and the Santa Ana volcano. El Cerro Verde is a place that is classified as containing levels of pure oxygen, demonstrated by the presence of the Usnea Sp lichen, which serves as an indicator of air quality with little presence of contamination. Transfer then to Ataco, a place famous for its colorful houses, woodcraft shops, looms, religious art, and its delicious gourmet coffee. Visit the souvenirs shops, its church and a coffee plantation for a glimpse of the coffee process. Back to San Salvador. Lunch and dinner are not included. Transfer to “El Boqueron National Park” located in the San Salvador volcano at 1,820 meters above sea level. The volcano last erupted in 1917 and is now famous for its typical restaurants, hotels, and scenic locations. We will be doing a short walk around its huge 1.5-kilometer-wide crater. Transfer to Puerto de La Libertad, located next the Pacific Ocean and only 30 minutes from the city. Here we will visit the famous surfing beaches of El Sunzal and El Tunco. Day 3 Divine Providence Chapel, Metropolitan Cathedral, Monsignor Romero Santuary, Paseo El Carmen Breakfast. In the morning guide visit to the Divine Providence chapel where he died in march 24, 1980, while celebrating a mass in the chapel. Then we continue to visit the little Monsignor Romero´s house, where he lived his last years, his heart is buried here, and we can appreciate personal articles. We continue to Metropolitan Cathedral in the historic downtown of San Salvador, visit the Monsignor Romero´s mausoleum, made of red granite and guarded by the four evangelists of the New Testament: Matthew, John, Luke and Mark. Visit to El Rosario church owns a modern architectural design, and unique in America, the structure doesn´t have columns that block the visibility to the altar. Time to lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Monsignor Romero Santuary, the Chacon Sisters located in Santa Tecla city. The Chacon sisters were very close friends to Monsignor Romero, they tell us stories, anecdotes. The late afternoon, visit to Paseo El Carmen (El Carmen Avenue), walking tour visiting El Carmen Church, the Mayor Palace and we can appreciate the historical big houses. Back to the hotel. In the morning visit to the Anthropology National Museum where we can appreciate one of the permanent exhibitions of the museum is the hall of religion, in which a chronological synopsis about the life and work of Monsignor Romero is presented, also, we can learn about of the Salvadoran history and culture, through the permanent exposition of archeology and anthropology. Then visit to the Martyrs Museum located in Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas UCA, exposes a museum in honor of the martyrs and victims of the 1980´s civil war in El Salvador, and where we can find the “Hall of the Martyrs” with personal belongings of Archbishop Monsignor Romero. Day 8 Suchitoto, León Nicaragua Breakfast and transfer to León Nicaragua. Arrival to Honduras/Nicaragua border and transfer to Leon Nicaragua. Check in and lodging. Lunch and dinner are included Day 9 Leon Breakfast. Leon is one of the most important cities of Nicaragua, it has many museums, art galleries, and its colonial architecture style is amazing. Visit to Ruben Darío Museum, Fundación Ortiz Gurdian, and Metropolitan Cathedral. Then visit the “Centro de Arte Por La Paz” which aims to promote a culture of peace through of the arts. Then visit the Santa Lucia Church, art galleries, Portales, and parks. Lunch and dinner are included. Day 7 Suchitoto, Joya de Cerén, Santa Ana, Ataco Breakfast and check out. Transfer to Ataco on the way visit to the Joya de Cerén archeological park declared by UNESCO a World Heritage site. Joya de Ceren is known as the “Mayan Pompeii”, in which you can appreciate the pre-Columbian lifestyle and dwelling of a Mayan settlement that was covered with ashes stemming from the eruption of the Caldera volcano over 1400 years ago. You can see several house structures in good condition as well as a Temezcal, also known as a Mayan Sauna, and visit its museum which exhibits different cooking and farming utensils. Transfer to Santa Ana City. Visit to its Gothic Cathedral and National Theater, famous for its paintings by Rossini, Gounod, Wagner and many other artists. In the afternoon arrival to Ataco village. Day 9 Ataco, Cerro Verde, San Salvador Breakfast and check out. Visit to “The Volcanoes National Park”. Walking tour through the tropical forest located within a huge crater at 2,000 meters above sea level, a perfect place to take pictures of Coatepeque lake, the Izalco volcano and the Santa Ana volcano. El Cerro Verde is a place that is classified as containing levels of pure oxygen, demonstrated by the presence of the Usnea Sp lichen, which serves as an indicator of air quality with little presence of contamination. Then continue to San Salvador volcano for to visit the huge crater of 1.5 kilometers of diameters, with impressive views of San Salvador and beautiful coffee farms. Visit to National Museum of Anthropology, where you will learn about Salvadoran history from the Pre-Columbian era until modern times. Transfer to “El Boqueron National Park” located in the San Salvador volcano at 1,820 meters above sea level. The volcano last erupted in 1917 and is now famous for its typical restaurants, hotels, and scenic locations. We will be doing a short walk around its huge 1.5-kilometer-wide crater. Transfer to Puerto de La Libertad, located next the Pacific Ocean and only 30 minutes from the city. Here we will visit the famous surfing beaches of El Sunzal and El Tunco.
