Karenina Raymond of Wal-Mart – Jefferson City was honored as Partner of the Year. Mike McMillion was recognized as Volunteer of the Year. ElTonya Rhoades and Christopher Zeiger were honored as the Award of Excellence recipients.

Job Point was approved for a twoyear AmeriCorps grant, providing financial assistance for YouthBuild graduates to further their education upon completion of at least 450 hours of community service. Our allocation from the Heart of Missouri United Way equaled $106,774. United Way dollars were utilized to match a federal job placement grant for people with disabilities,

for operations of our Job Works program for individuals who are chronically unemployed and to provide job search assistance for YouthBuild participants. Job Point’s YouthBuild program was one of 76 nationwide approved for continued funding in the amount of $1.1 million for the next three years. This grant will assist 70 disadvantaged youth to enhance academic levels, obtain construction skills and develop leadership ability. Successful outcomes will include employment, further training or education or military enlistment. Job Point South sponsored a hole at the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce golf tournament. Through our construction trades training, students conducted repairs and weatherization for homes of senior citizens in partnership with Boone County Council on Aging, performed work at Knob Knoster State Park and completed street repairs and park improvements in cooperation with the Cities of Centralia, Columbia, Hallsville, O’Fallon, Warrensburg, Wright City and the Counties of Callaway and Johnson. Our annual campaign resulted in over $177,000 due to the generosity of our esteemed Circle of Friends. In the spirit of community, Job Point staff volunteered with the Show-Me State Games for the twelfth consecutive year, participated in fundraising for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the sixth year in a row, and sponsored a family through the Voluntary Action Center’s holiday gift program for the third time. Columbia’s Drug Court, which is part of Boone County’s alternative sentencing approach and overseen by the Honorable Christine Carpenter, was featured at the 17th Annual Drug Court Training Conference in Washington, DC. Job Point serves as an integral partner providing an avenue for participants to access skills training and employment for community reentry.

Hosted by Fred DeMarco, and in partnership with Assistance League of Mid-Missouri, the annual Comedy Night Show and Auction was a huge success with a record $15,500 raised for Job Point. Sponsors were Joe Machens Dealerships, Columbia Daily Tribune, Columbia Orthopaedic Group, Déjà Vu Comedy Club, Horton Animal Hospitals, The Insurance Group Inc, Landmark Bank, MBS Textbook Exchange Inc and Van Matre, Harrison, Hollis & Taylor. The Missouri Department of Corrections awarded Job Point funding to continue and augment employment services for individuals on probation or parole in the Fulton area. One of 15 grantees nationwide, Job Point was awarded $1,500,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor to implement a Civic Justice Corps in Boone County. The program will help formerly incarcerated individuals ages 18-24 reconnect with the community and find pathways for success through community service and educational opportunities. Bill Costello of Boone County National Bank was crowned Columbia’s 2nd annual Celebrity Apprentice by Norm “The Boss” Ruebling. The event, featuring 16 contestants in four teams, raised community awareness and over $23,000 for Job Point. In partnership with Preferred Futures, Inc, Job Point implemented Certified Nursing Assistant training. Scholarships were made available through a grant from the United Way of Central Missouri. In this inaugural year, four classes have been held in Jefferson City. Classes will be offered in Columbia in 2012. The City of Columbia approved funding for skills training for income-eligible residents in the areas of Computer Operations, Internet Job Search, Certified Nursing Assistant and Highway/Heavy Construction.
