INTROIT CALL TO WORSHIP

Adapted from Psalm 71

Come, worship, and take refuge in the Lord our God. For the Lord is my hope, my trust from my youth. Come, worship, and hope continually in the Lord our God. My mouth will tell of God’s righteous acts, of God’s deeds of salvation all day long, though their number is past my knowledge. Come, worship, and praise the mighty deeds of the Lord our God. From my youth God has taught me, and I still proclaim God’s wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake us, that we may proclaim Your might to all the generations to come. Let us worship God! *HYMN 770

CONFESSION

Gracious Lord, have mercy on us and forgive our sinful ways. You call us to be humble guests and gracious hosts as we follow the example of Jesus Christ our Lord. However, we fail to do so time and time again. We allow a sense of pride and entitlement to rule our hearts as we push others down to elevate ourselves. We perform acts of kindness for those who can repay us while we exclude and ignore those who cannot. Change our hearts, O Lord, and keep our eyes on You so that we might discover true humility. *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (8:30AM SERVICE)

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. COMMISSIONING (11:00AM SERVICE)

Our gifts differ according to the grace given us. If your gift is prophesy, use it as your faith suggests. If teaching, then teach. If preaching, then deliver sermons. If serving as a missionary, then prepare yourself to go forth. Work for the Lord with untiring effort & with earnestness of spirit. There are different gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. Each is given a gift by the Spirit, to use for the common good. Speaking for the Session of this church, I bring these members to be installed as Sunday school teachers. Friends, you have been called by Jesus Christ to special work and have prepared yourselves for this work. Now you stand before this congregation to declare your intent by answering these questions: Are you willing to serve as a Sunday school teacher? Will you follow Jesus Christ in loving neighbors and working for reconciliation? Will you serve God’s people with energy and intelligence, relying on God’s mercy through Jesus Christ? QUESTION OF THE CONGREGATION

Do we, the members of James Island Presbyterian Church, accept these people as our Sunday school teachers? If so, please stand, and join in the unison prayer: God of grace, You call us to come in ministry as ambassadors of Christ, entrusting us with the message of reconciliation. Give us courage and discipline to follow Your Spirit that we might declare Your wonderful deeds and show Your love to the world, through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. Friends, you are now teachers in the church. Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God, the Father, through Him. PASTORAL PRAYER OFFERTORY
