“It’s a big motivation for me to compete at the European Championships. An ankle injury has hampered my preparation in April and May ahead of the combined events meeting in Götzis. Now I’m coming back into shape. I hope to perform well in my strong events like the sprints and the long jump. I think that up to 8000 points are possible but everything has to go perfect for this. I take it step by step.”.

Gerhard MAYER

“It’s a huge motivation for me to take part in the European Championships. I’m an athlete who lives up with the atmosphere and the thrill of a big competition. It has been a very long time since I’ve competed at this international level. I had problems with my ankle recently but this should be okay. I hope to jump in the 1.90-1.92m region”, says Monika Gollner. With 37 she is the most experienced athlete in the Austrian team. “I’m looking forward to Helsinki. It is great to have this kind of high standard competition ahead of the Olympic Games. I’m happy with my season so far, though I would have hoped for a better mark than 63.33 metres. This is yet to come. My goal is to be in the final. It will be a very strong competition, similar to what we can expect at the Olympics”, says Gerhard Mayer. The best international result of the Austrian record holder is 8th place at the World Championships in Berlin 2009.

“My training is going okay. As I lost funding from the army this year I have to do some part time work now. That’s not the best situation. But I should have run faster than I did this year and hope to show it in Helsinki”, says Ryan Moseley. He was born in Barbados and after marriage to an Austrian, he was granted citizenship in 2008. At the European Championships in Barcelona he was the fastest ever non-qualifier for the final with 10.27. A somewhat similar performance would be huge surprise this time. date / place of birth: height / weight marital status: place of residence: club: coach: profession: hobbies: personal record: personal best 2012:

“I’ve made a lot of races already this season with the aim to break the Olympic qualification mark. This was good to gain more international experience but I could feel the effects of it as I was ill in the mid of June. I hope to get fresh in time for the European Championships. “My minimum goal is to get into the semi-finals. I’ve only run one single good outdoor race this season in Regensburg and suffered from stomach problems afterwards. So the preparation was not perfect. If everything goes alright I think I can run 1:46. The 800m are very competitive this season so it will be a close fight in the heats”, expects Andreas Rapatz. „I will race both the 1500m and 5000m at Helsinki. There are two full days rest between these races, which I believe is plenty of time for me to recover. If the 5000m is a quick race I would like to try and run a PB time, if it is a slow, ‚championship‘ style race, I would like to be able to use some of my 1500m background to be quick over the last 1-2 laps. In the 1500m I first need to qualify for the final“, says Brenton Rowe. He was born and raised in Australia but got Austrian citizenship as his grandparents originate from Austria.
