Presenting our Summer edition of the Shiseikan Karate Dojo Newsletter! Welcome to the Summer publication of the dojo newsletter! In this edition we will recap some of the most memorable moments of this past Spring as well as highlight some upcoming events. We’ll also take a sneak peak at what summer 2016 holds at the dojo!

Looking Back Birthdays We had the pleasure of sharing James Browning’s and Frankie Barbiere’s special day with each of them. Check out some of the birthday boys as a “Black Belt for the Day”! Happy Birthday to RJ Jolly & Kate Kirby too, who are celebrating birthdays at the dojo this month!

Belt Promotions This Spring was very busy with belt tests and we’re proud to say all test candidates passed! Congratulations to all of our newest belt recipients! We’re also proud to announce our very first Junior Yellow belts in the Tigers program! Congratulations James Kaminski, Gracie Sylvester and Brynn Fortier and Maxamillian McDonald!

KARATEbyJesse What a great weekend we had hosting Jesse Enkamp from Sweden! He taught us some creative, thought-provoking drills and we met lots of great karate practitioners from all over the country. It was an honor to train alongside everyone in the spirit of karatedo. Special thanks to Rick Karlberg for helping make the weekend with Jesse a reality here at our dojo! Arigato gozaimashita!

Karate Fun Nights For the parents: date night or some free time. For the kids: pizza, friends, games, popcorn & a movie. What more could you ask for? We had a great time at Karate Fun Night, we hope the parents did as well!!

Breaking News Member’s Section of Website We redesigned the website recently and we’re happy to share with everyone the log in credentials for the website! Go to the “Members” section of the website and log in using the password: peabodydojo There you’ll find curriculum, videos and helpful resources for students.

Junior Black Belts Congratulations to our first ever Junior Black Belt recipients! You all worked so hard and it certainly paid off! Congratulations again to Thomas Martin, Evan Bazarian, Jared Cunha, Nuno Bazarian and Talia Molle! We have great things in store for our dojo’s sempai!

Shugyo This past weekend we had a great time at Sensei Moores’ annual training camp! We did lot of creative drills and got to spend the time with some of the nicest, most dedicated practitioners in New England. Thank you to Sensei Moores for hosting us and to Miss Crystal, Mr Muse, Dr. Malley and Mr. Karlberg for teaching classes!

Tent Event What a great day we had for our first even “Tent Event”! We set up our new 10 sq. ft. tent and shared karate with the children and families on the soccer fields this Spring. Thank you to everyone who helped, it was a lot of fun!

Outdoor Space Presenting, our new dojo outdoor space! Some of the adult students helped out and helped us built our new dojo fence! We hope everyone enjoys the new pic-nic table and garden as well! 4

Behavioral Scorecards We’ve recently developed a new tool, a Behavioral Scorecard, that’s designed to help our students consistently make high-quality choices in the same manner that we practice here on the mat. Our new Behavioral Scorecard allows the children to ‘grade’ their own performance on a handful of personally selected categories. We have a list of 18 different topics you and your child can choose from in making your personalized Behavioral Scorecard. Our Beginner and Junior students have been using their new Behavioral Scorecards for a few weeks and we plan to distribute a version for the intermediate students soon! At the parent’s discretion, they can award a “Ticket Coupon” for exceptional behavior, valid for 5 summer tickets at the dojo! Here is a list of some of the 18 different topics your family could choose for your child’s own Scorecard. Healthy eating choices • respect toward others • self-confidence in the classroom • using selfdiscipline with chores • diligence in doing homework •positive attitude • respecting rules at home • hygiene • respecting siblings • selfreliance getting ready for school • listening well at school and at home

Summer Tickets Coming Soon Every summer we have a ticket box for students to enter their summer tickets into. At the end of summer we have a Slushy Party and raffle off some awesome prizes for the kids. The more tickets you have, the better the odds! May the odds be ever in your favor.

Summer Club 2016 We are excited to share with you that this summer, Authentic Karate Training Center will be offering 2 week-long sessions of Summer Club during the months of July and August. We wanted to be sure everyone interested had enough notice to mark their calendars and reserve their spot before the end of the school year. AKTC’s Summer Club is a fun and unique way to keep your children active during the summer “down time”. Each day will be filled with exciting drills, plenty of games, and new activities to broaden each student’s understanding of the martial arts. The event will feature kid-approved themes, outdoors activities, a karate class, arts & crafts and games galore! This year we are proud to host our special guest, Miko Takahaski, a knowledge children’s Japanese teacher! Next time you're at the dojo, we'd would be happy to answer any questions you may have! We're really looking forward to an exciting fun-filled summer here at the dojo; we hope you can join us.

Summer Uniform As of June 21st we will be wearing our summer uniforms. Students have the option to wear their gi jackets if they’d like, otherwise they can wear the white dojo t-shirt tucked in to their uniform pants.

Dojo Closed The dojo will be closed for Monday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, July 5th!
