Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s People. Thanks be to God. Bishop

Dear Friends, we gather here to give praise and thanks to God, and to do the work of Diocesan Convention. Let us call upon the whole Communion of Saints to stand with us and pray with us, particularly all those who have gone before us in the past year. And let us now fill this room with the sound of their names:

Names are recited by readers. May their souls and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

English Words: Ipharadisi, where all the dead are living, may we one day join them all there. 3

Let us pray. Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Oremos.

Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Bendigamos al Señor. Demos gracias a Dios.

O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia. 4

Psalm 27:1, 5-13 All chant the refrain quietly as the psalm is prayed aloud by readers

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom then shall I fear? * the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom then shall I be afraid? 5 One thing have I asked of the LORD; one thing I seek; * that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life; 6 To behold the fair beauty of the LORD * and to seek God in the temple. 7 For in the day of trouble the LORD shall shelter me in safety; * the LORD shall hide me in the secrecy of the holy place, and set me high upon a rock. 8 Even now the LORD lifts up my head * above my enemies round about me. 9 Therefore I will offer in the holy place an oblation with sounds of great gladness; * I will sing and make music to the LORD. 10 Hearken to my voice, O LORD, when I call; * have mercy on me and answer me. 11 You speak in my heart and say, "Seek my face." * Your face, LORD, will I seek. 12 Hide not your face from me, * nor turn away your servant in displeasure. 13 You have been my helper; cast me not away; * do not forsake me, O God of my salvation.

Zechariah 8:3-9

Thus says the LORD: I will return to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts shall be called the holy mountain. Thus says the LORD of hosts: Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of their great age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets. Thus says the LORD of hosts: Even though it seems impossible to the remnant of this people in these days, should it also seem impossible to me, says the LORD of hosts? Thus says the LORD of hosts: I will save my people from the east country and from the west country; and I will bring them to live in Jerusalem. They shall be my people and I will be their God, in faithfulness and in righteousness.

Poem: They threatened us with Resurrection

Julia Esquivel

When the hour comes, you shall change my desert into a waterfall, you shall anoint my head with fresh oil and your strength shall overcome my weakness.

You shall guide my feet into your footsteps and I will walk the narrow path that leads to your House.

You shall tell me when and where I will walk your path totally bathed in joy. In the meantime, I ask you, Lord, you who awaken in the most intimate place in my soul the Feast of Life! That of the Empty Tomb! That of the Victorious Cross!

Let your voice mistaken as the Gardener’s awaken my hearing every morning with news that’s always fresh: “Go and tell my brothers and sisters that I have overcome death, that there is a new place for everyone there where the New Nation is built. There, where neither earth, love, or joy can be bought or sold, where wine and milk are shared without money and without price.” There where all my little children sit as princes at THE TABLE OF MY FATHER.” Keep reminding me loudly every night, that you have overcome him who confuses this world. Tell me it does not matter how bitter the cup of affliction is So that the heart can cease trembling; and this desert of indifferent development does not impede our hope, nor prevent us from holding Your Hands round the Fire which burns brighter in the Mountain, Your People are the Mountain!

7

Be strong within me, so that the thousand excuses with which the heart seeks to escape from the essential thing don’t let me forget that in Your House there is always WINE and BREAD and that Your House, Lord, is where the humble search for the Justice that will shine in the New Society that already provides us with glimpses of your Kingdom!

Officiant

I invite your prayers.

Officiant

Summing up our prayers, we now pray in the words Jesus taught us:

8

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Let us confess our sins against God, our neighbor, and ourselves. Silence Renewing God, trusting in your infinite grace, we confess that we need your healing and your forgiveness. For all that is broken in our minds and bodies, we ask your healing. For all that is amiss in our choices and our relationships, we ask your forgiveness. For all that works against life and blessing in our hearts, and in the world, we open ourselves to your transforming grace. Heal us, forgive us, and make us new. (Written by Steve Garnaas-Holmes, Worship and Song 93)

Presider We know that the pain cannot be unmade, that life cannot be un-lived, that time will not run backward, and we cannot un-choose our choices. But through Jesus, God has promised that the pain can be healed, our choices can be redeemed, our lives can be blessed, and love can bring us home. God cover you with forgiving love and bring you home. Amen. (Adapted from Desmond Tutu, Made for Goodness 137)
