Introduction Flagstaff Public Library in partnership with OverDrive brings Digital Media to customers with a library card. So what is Digital Media?

Digital Media = eMedia Digital Book= eBook This is the digital version of a book. It can be read on a computer screen or transferred to a portable device called an eReader. Digital Movie= eFlick This is a digital movie viewable on the computer screen or TV. Digital Audio Book= Audiobook This is the audio version of a book. A person can use speakers or headphones to listen to the book, or the book can be transferred to a portable listening device such as an mp3 player or an i-Pod. Digital Music= Music Music is also available digitally. A person can use speakers or headphones to listen to the music, or the music can be transferred to a portable listening device such as an mp3 player or an i-Pod. 2

Getting Started What do I need to do to get started? 

You will need a Flagstaff Public Library card



Your account must be in good standing



No need to set up a digital account either it’s automatic

How do I find the Library’s digital collection? 



Go to the Flagstaff Public Library homepage: www.flagstaffpubliclibrary.org Under “What’s Happening” click on the “E-Books are now here” link

I found the digital collection, what do I do next? 





If you haven’t already done so, download the Adobe Digital Editions software under the “Getting Started” tab on the left hand corner Adobe Digital Editions is where downloaded e-books will go for viewing and transferring to compatible e-reader devices Now you’re ready to start browsing

Downloading Adobe On the left hand side of the page under Getting Started, click Adobe Digital Editions. This software will allow you to read ebooks on your computer and transfer them to your eReader.

Click Download Adobe Digital Editions. This will take you to the Adobe website.

Downloading Adobe

Scroll until you see the Adobe Digital Editions Installer and click Launch.

After installation, the setup wizard prompts you to activate Adobe Digital Editions (you must be online during this process). During activation, you will need to authorize your computer with an Adobe ID. If you don’t have an Adobe ID, creating one is free and only takes a minute. The Adobe ID enables you to transfer items protected by digital rights management (DRM) between multiple computers. Once you have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions and authorized your computer with your Adobe ID, you are ready to browse our digital collection!

Nook Check Out 1. In the search box you can search by Title, Author or Subject. For this search we’ll search by Title. (Example: Blizzard of the Blue Moon)

2. Once you found the item, it will display how many copies are available, how many copies the library owns, and the available formats for this item. Kindle Book and Adobe EPUB eBook are available.

Nook Check Out 3. If the item is not available, the status will say Place Hold. If the item says Add to Cart it is available for check out. Click Add to Cart for the Adobe EPUB eBook.

4. Please note: Titles added to your Cart will remain there for 30 minutes before they are returned to the library’s collection. Please be sure to complete your checkout within this timeframe to avoid losing access to these titles. Click Proceed to Checkout.

Nook Check Out 5. Enter your library card number and 4 digit PIN then click Sign In.

6. Your account information will display maximum checkouts allowed at one time on your library card, current number of items checked out and checkouts remaining after the current checkout. Click Confirm Check Out

Nook Check Out 7. Your item is now ready to download. To the right you can see when the item was checked out and when the item expires. Click Download.

8. Adobe Digital Editions will automatically open after you hit the Download button. The ebook will download itself to the Adobe Digital Editions where you can read it from your computer or transfer it to a ereader. 9

Transferring to Nook

9. You want to make sure your nook is connected to your computer. To transfer your ebook to your Nook, simply click and drag the book cover and drop it over the name of the eReader. In this example, the name of the eReader is “Nook”.

10. Your item will now be on your Nook. You have 14 days with the item. After 14 days the item will automatically return itself and will be deleted from your Nook. You have the option to return an item early by clicking the arrow above the cover of the book and selecting Return Borrowed Item.
