Specifications

CantegaG2 Fiber-optically coupled 2k x 2k bottom-mounted TEM Camera

Using digital technology in the field of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) offers unique and attractive advantages. With the right digital camera and software, image acquisition, analysis, storage and documentation become much easier compared to conventional analog approaches. The latest developments guarantee the same quality as was available with the familiar photo plate. Steadily rising pressures to cut costs along with increasing quality expectations can be dealt with effectively. Digital solutions save time and money and reduce errors. And working digitally is a lot more user friendly. Each of the cameras we have developed reflects the current requirements of industry, biomedicine, life sciences and the materials-sciences. This is true for all of our TEM cameras – both the 35 mm port side-entry cameras and bottom-mounted cameras. Properties such as high resolution, high frame rates, excellent signal-to-noise ratio, wide dynamic range, easy installation, interactive and automatic on-screen focusing and automatic image enhancement all guarantee that your TEM workday is efficient. Practice-oriented – iTEM, the TEM imaging platform In addition to their quality and affordability, all cameras are fully integrated with our user-friendly TEM software environment iTEM, and fully operable via the software. In most cases, remote-controlled TEMs and motorized stages can be operated via iTEM. Integrated real-time functions such as automatic contrast enhancement ensure the best possible image quality during acquisition. Software extensions tailored toward your applications make it easy to increase the range of functions offered by iTEM. These include acquisition, evaluation and visualization of energy-loss images and spectra, evaluation of diffraction images, determination of mechanical using CBED image series, acquisition, reconstruction and visualization of tomography series and automated particle analysis.

High quantum efficiency The CCD sensor provides 2048 x 2048 pixel resolution with a 14-bit dynamic range. The full-frame CCD chip offers a pixel size of 14 µm x 14 µm with an active area of 28.7 mm x 28.7 mm. With a dark current of < 0.6 e-/p/s, a full well capacity of about 250,000 electrons, a read-out noise of approximately 8 electrons and its water-cooled system, the high sensitivity of the CantegaG2 allows observation of samples on the monitor at beam intensities so low, they would normally prohibit a user seeing anything at all on the TEM viewing screen. Convenient frame rates The CantegaG2 supports two readout rates at 14 bits. The 2 MHz mode produces images of the highest quality at convenient frame rates. In the high speed 5 MHz mode the camera offers about 6 frames per second at binning 4 and 1 frame per second at full resolution. At any resolution, this camera provides a superb dynamic range and sensitivity. Binning modes of 2x, 4x and 8x are supported by the CantegaG2. This means that sensitivity can be increased even more.

Applications

Innovative system approach The CantegaG2 camera system couples the electron-sensitive layer (scintillator) with the CCD chip using unique fiber optics. The CantegaG2 uses an improved YAG scintillator which provides superior uniformity and homogeneity. The camera can be freely rotated under vacuum conditions in order to align the CCD chip to the specimen feature or the tilt axis of the goniometer. The CantegaG2 offers extremely low exposure times (as little as 1 ms and up to 100 s), making acquisition viable with intense illumination and with images of very low intensity.

Optimized optics The MegaViewG2 camera system is equipped with a specially designed lens. In conjunction with the CCD chip and the increased efficiency scintillator, the optimized optics of the MegaViewG2 system ensure great sensitivity and light efficiency, as well as a high signal-to-noise ratio. Superlative CCD sensor The highly sensitive 2/3” interline CCD image sensor used in the MegaViewG2 provides resolution of 1376 x 1032 pixels with 14-bit dynamic range (grey values). The pixel size of the CCD chip is 6.45 x 6.45 µm2 (effective size). The CCD sensor possesses high quantum efficiency, which in combination with reduced dark current and 10° C cooling, results in an increase of the detection quantum efficiency (DQE) of the camera system. Various imaging modes Several binning modes are supported by the MegaViewG2. The users can select between modes of 2x, 4x and 8x binning. This offers sensitivity that can be increased even more. The interline chip uses an electronic shutter which prevents any possible mechanical problems. The MegaViewG2 offers exposure times ranging from 100 µs to 160 s. This is a fundamental prerequisite for being able to acquire images of either intense illumination or of very low intensity. The MegaViewG2 supports frame rates of more than 25 images per second at binning 2 and of more than 15 images per second at full resolution. This high frame rate is ideal for locating suitable sample segments directly onscreen or adjusting the microscope parameters. At any resolution the camera provides excellent dynamic range and sensitivity.

C

Wide range of exposure times The interline transfer chip uses an electronic shutter. This removes any possibility for mechanical problems. The Veleta offers exposure times ranging from 100 µs to 160 s. This is a fundamental prerequisite for being able to acquire images of either intense illumination or of very low intensity. The CCD chip’s interline architecture guarantees extremely high anti-blooming. Individual pixels are clearly distinguished. This, in conjunction with extremely short exposure times, optimizes the acquisition of diffraction images. Sensitivity based on high light efficiency Due to a partnership with the best lens makers, the Veleta camera system has been equipped with a new, specially designed optical lens. The custom optics of the Veleta and more efficient scintillators ensure great sensitivity and light efficiency, as well as a high signal-to-noise ratio.

Diffraction image of aluminium

Excellent dynamic and high frame rates The Veleta supports frame rates of more than 20 images per second at binning 4 and of 5 images per second at full resolution. This high frame rate is ideal for locating suitable sample segments directly onscreen. In conjunction with the RT-FFT (Real Time Fast Fourier Transformation), the focusing mode offers ideal assistance for setting various microscope parameters. This enables you to conveniently focus your sample on your PC screen as opposed to having to use the viewing screen of the microscope. No matter what mode you select, the Veleta offers excellent dynamic range and high sensitivity.

Broad range of application fields The CCD chip provides a maximum resolution of 4008 x 2672 pixels (depending on TEM). The CCD chip is stabilized at a temperature of 15° C. Noise is further reduced via innovative digital read-out technology. The result is high sensitivity and efficiency as well as an extraordinary signal-to-noise ratio. The CCD chip of the Morada has an electronic shutter. Extremely fast exposure times - less than 1 ms - are viable, along with extremely lengthy ones - up to 60 s. This ensures perfect acquisition of your specimen no matter whether current conditions require a long or very brief exposure time. Various imaging options The camera also supports various binning modes, thus enhancing sensitivity even more. The Morada uses a maximum pixel clock rate of 24 MHz. This makes readout rates of up to 10 frames per second in the partial read-out mode possible. This mode enables users to search specimens conveniently at their PCs for relevant detail as well as being able to set various microscope parameters. For the Snapshot, the Morada automatically switches to the 12-MHz mode. This ensures further noise reduction and perfect image acquisition. The Morada camera also offers trigger functionality. Flexible capabilities The Morada uses new, specially designed scintillators, thereby fulfilling customers‘ requirements. These scintillators are optimized for 100 keV and 200 keV, in accordance with customer specifications. Acquired images are transferred to the PC via FireWire™ (IEEE 1394a) technology.
