GENERAL INFORMATION
Club Diary The club diary is available on-line at www.shifnalgolf.com Tee Time Booking • Tee Time Booking operates on all days. • All Members must enter their names in the booking system and report to the professional’s shop before commencement of play. • A Member may only book one starting time and all players must be named. • The first tee is reserved for Members until 11.00am and between 12.30 to 1.30pm on Fridays. Variations to this will be published in advance. Guests • A Member may sign a guest in for a reduced fee. • A Member may sign in three guests at one time on a weekday, but only one guest at a weekend or Bank Holiday. • A member may not bring the same guest to the Club for the purpose of playing on more than six occasions in any one calendar year - Open Meetings and Invitations excluded. Standards of Dress The required dress for within the Clubhouse is smart casual, except for certain functions when the required dress code will be published on the Function notice. Recognised golf attire should be worn on the golf course and is allowed in the Clubhouse. Golf shoes should not be worn in the clubhouse. Please avoid extremes of dress in all cases.
COMPETITIONS
Competitions may only start from the first tee unless authorised by the Match Committee. Names must be entered in the prescribed manner before play commences. Scores for individual competitions are to be entered on the computer (including nil returns) and the score cards placed in the competition box on the day of the competition. Members must play the format of the day (2, 3, 4 ball, foursome, greensome, etc.) except that fourballs are allowed on the course after 3pm on all competition days. Players taking part in Club Trophies, Medals or Matches have priority on the course and should be invited to play through.
ON THE COURSE
Course Conduct Repair all pitch marks, replace divots and rake bunkers. Players may not cut in on any hole if there are players on the preceding hole. Practice is not permitted on any part of the course except the designated practice areas. The playing of more than one ball is not allowed on the course. Equipment Each player must have his/her own bag and set of clubs. Distance Measuring Devices Players may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. If during a stipulated round a player uses a device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his / her play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.) the player is in breach of Rule 14-3 for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is used. Slow Play All Members should be aware of others on the course and not hold up the play of those behind. To this end: (a)
Leave your golf bag/trolley on the side of the green nearest to the next tee.
(b)
Do not mark your scorecard on the green or when it is your turn to tee off on the next hole.
(c)
Be ready to play your shot when the green is clear and it is your turn.
(d)
If a ball is “lost” and not immediately found, call through the group behind.
(e)
If your game loses a clear hole on those in front then you must invite the following group to play through.
Trolleys / Buggies Do not take trolleys or buggies onto the tees, greens or green surrounds or between greens and greenside bunkers.
SAFETY 1.
Players should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or other article when they make a stroke or practice swing.
2. Players should not play until the players in front are out of range, especially when playing blind shots or when it is foggy. 3. Players should always alert greens staff nearby or ahead when they are about to make a stroke that might endanger them. 4.
If a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone, they should immediately shout a warning of “fore”. Players should be aware of the constant danger of flying golf balls, especially from players on adjacent holes.
5.
If there is danger from lightning players may suspend play and return to the clubhouse. They must suspend play when the warning siren sounds.
6.
To prevent slipping, players should wear golf shoes that have metal or soft spikes that provide adequate grip.
7.
Players should not lick their golf balls or tees.
8.
Players suffering ill-health or injury may receive first aid treatment from one of the appointed First Aid persons listed on the Clubhouse notice board.
9.
As soon as practicable players should report any injuries or accidents to the Secretary’s Office.
10.
For further information see the R&A Rules of Golf and Shifnal Golf Club’s local rules on “Suspension of Play” and “Playing in Fog”.
