Proposal for a Directive on fuel infrastructure: CNG & LNG Intensively debated in European Council and Parliament. Objective to implement in current legislative period Main parameters:

WP 2 – LNG VEHICLES • Optimization of dedicated and dual fuel engines & vehicles when using LNG – Vehicles-Engines • Optimization of dedicated and dual (Diesel + gas) engines, considering the new cold & hot start tests and the NOx random Off Cycle test • Euro VI Emissions & beyond, • Low temperature aftertreatment for complete CO, THC and NOx removal • Study of energy efficiency, costs, performance, environmental benefits and durability in different countries • LNG tanks including economizer for boil-off treatment • Standards and regulations not only for emissions but also for fuel tanks, fuel connections, and all the systems which are currently a barrier.

WP 3 – LNG FUEL STATIONS & LOGISTICS • Identification of an efficient, safe and viable LNG infrastructure – Fuel stations • Standards and regulations not only for boil-off emissions but for cryogenic tanks • Harmonization of the operating pressures for a safe and simple refueling process • Supporting a correct interaction between the LNG truck and the fuel station

WP 4 – HARMONIZATION & STANDARIZATION • Identification of necessary regulations / standards to harmonize and regulate the vehicles and fuel stations • Supporting the project by studying the state of the art of the technology, the regulations at each Member State standards level and compiling the best practices both for vehicles and LNG stations • Harmonization of the operating pressures for a safe and simple fueling process • Supporting a correct interaction between the LNG truck and the fuel station • Providing recommendations to the standards according to the experience in the real demonstration activity • Important news: new Regulation R110, allowing the use of LNG tanks in vehicles in 2014
