Fieldwork experience

Extensive fieldwork experience in South Africa, including 16 months of fieldwork in total between 2000-2016. Fieldwork included organizing a semi-qualitative survey with local field assistants, conducting more than 70 qualitative interviews and 40 policy level interviews. Extensive fieldwork experience also from Malawi and Lesotho, including 7 months of fieldwork in total in each country 2007-2016. Fieldwork included household surveying, more than 40 qualitative interviews with young people, 74 PRA/focus group meetings and 20 policy interviews at national level. Shorter fieldwork experiences from Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia during one visit to each country including local level interviews and policy interviews.

Research dissemination activities and stakeholder engagement National Steering Groups In the NVF-project we worked with National Steering Groups in Malawi and Lesotho, i.e. a group of representatives of relevant government bodies, NGOs, researchers and other stakeholders interested in our research. An NSG was set up in each country, and meetings were held before starting up the field data collection, in the middle of data collection and after right after finalizing data collection. National stakeholders could during these meetings give their input to the project, which we took on board and worked with. After processing field data and before writing articles, we drafted a Stakeholder report which was ventilated with the NSG as well as with more stakeholders before continuing the research process. These steering groups have also been set up in the ESRC-funded Cash transfers research project.
