DeLaval barn system controller BSC The command centre for your barn

Train your barn to think like you do Of course, the BSC will still let you operate your systems manually or to a time schedule. But the real genius of the BSC is that it lets you program your systems to make the decisions that you would make – without you needing to be there to make them.

The command centre for your barn

Temperature

DeLaval Barn System Controller BSC lets you manage all of your barn systems from a single controller. By making your barn systems work together, you can improve: barn-hygiene, cowcomfort and milk production – while reducing energy costs and the time that you need to spend in the barn. The BSC is an easy-to-use interface that lets you program systems to automatically react to the conditions in your barn. This enables you to create the optimal environment for your cows without the cost of running systems when they aren’t effective.

The BSC lets you control multiple DeLaval systems: • Ventilation – fans, panels and curtains. • Cow cooling – sprinklers, fans and misters. • Illumination – barn and night lighting. • Manure handling – alley cleaning, gutter cleaning and transfer.

Smart decisions at your fingertips

Curtains & Panels

You know better than anybody how different weather conditions affect your cows and your operation. The BCS can be connected to wind, temperature and humidity sensors inside and outside your barn to capture real-time environmental conditions. You can decide how your systems will react to these conditions.

The intuitive and easy-to-use iconbased interface lets you choose between manual, time-schedule or programmed control. The simplicity of touch-pad control means that you and all your staff will be able to quickly learn how to use the BSC effectively.

Benefits

– Comfortable cows – Prevents heat-stress – Prevents manure dryout – Reduces ammonia emission – Comfortable cows – Minimise energy consumption – Comfortable cows – Prevents manure freezing

Reduce environmental impact and operational costs By only running systems when they make a positive difference, you can reduce energy wastage. This is a winwin that reduces your environmental impact as well as your operating costs. The BSC also enables you to reduce ammonia emissions. Increased wind conditions cause faster evaporation of ammonia from liquid manure. By programming your BSC to automatically increase the frequency of the manure scrapers when it is windy, you can help reduce this impact.

Illumination Increasing the amount of light cows are exposed to reduces melatonin levels and increases milk production. But it’s not as simple as just leaving the lights on. The BSC adjusts to the amount of ambient light and the time of sunrise and sunset to provide the optimal light intensity and schedule without wasting electricity.

Barn Environment The ideal climate for cow-comfort and productivity Healthy, comfortable and relaxed cows produce higher quality milk and more of it. The BSC gives you greater control over your barn environment so you can maximise the comfort of your cows in all conditions.

Ventilation Program your BSC to automatically open and close ventilation curtains and panels according to wind conditions. You can program individual panels or curtains for different wind direction, velocity and temperature variables. You know your conditions – you decide what happens. And when there is no wind at all, the BSC can be programmed to activate ventilation fans at a pre-determined temperature to keep your cows comfortable.

Cow Cooling Effluent management By making your alley cleaning, manure collection and transport solutions work as one system; you can increase efficiency and reduce unnecessary energy consumption and wear on equipment. Program different system cycles for different weather conditions to optimise cleaning and reduce system stoppages. And for your most valuable asset, you can program cow-friendly functions such as obstacle detection, special care zones, low speed zones, and parking zones.

In warm climates, ventilation alone is not enough. When temperatures exceed 22°c, cows begin to experience heatstress, causing them to feed less and produce less milk – up to 25% less. The BSC controls DeLaval Cow Cooling; a system that provides direct relief where heat-stress affects cows most. Waiting yards and holding pens. An integrated fan and sprinkler system delivers a spray of exactly the right droplet size and angle of contact to penetrate through the cow’s hair layer and onto her skin. This results in effective heat transfer rather than water being wasted on top of her coat or on the ground.

Feeding fence. A fine mist of water directly cools the cow while she is eating. This stimulates appetite meaning she will eat for longer and produce more milk. Because it is a fine mist rather than a spray, the water effectively cools the cow without saturating feed. The BSC lets you program different cooling cycles and frequencies to suit different temperature, humidity and wind conditions. It can also work with other barn systems such as opening ventilation curtains or panels to assist cooling, but closing them if strong wind conditions could cause cross-wind interference. Systems working together achieve better results and use less energy doing it.

Effluent Management Get your hygiene systems working together

Set routines to suit the conditions The BSC lets you program regular cleaning routines for regular conditions, and special cleaning routines for special conditions.

The Barn System Controller lets you synchronize every part of your effluent management system to work together for a healthier, safer and more hygienic barn environment.

Frost Guard When temperatures drop, program your scrapers to activate automatically and prevent manure from freezing solid or your scraper from freezing to the floor.

• Reduce mastitis infection • Prevent accidents • Reduce milking preparation time • Retain the fertilizer value in your system • Reduce ammonia emissions

Wind Guard When wind levels increase, so does ammonia emission. Program your scrapers to automatically increase cleaning frequency when it is windy. (Accesories not included)

Synchronise your cleaning, collection and transfer cycles with the BSC. As each of these functions is dependent on the progress of the others, it makes sense to have a central system that runs them together. The BSC incorporates information from each part of your system to ensure that they work together to avoid stoppages, overflow or wasted energy.

Level control The BSC connects to level monitors (accessories not included) to ensure that your systems only work when they need to. When pits are full, agitation and transfer systems start.

Dry Guard In warm temperatures, you can set your scrapers to increase cleaning frequency and prevent manure from drying out and becoming stuck fast to the floor.

Low Speed Zone Prevent accidents by programming your scrapers to slow down in areas where there is a lot of cow traffic.

Parking Zone Program your scraper to park itself out of harm’s way when it is not operating. Define exactly where you want it to stop and it will put itself away.

Obstacle detection Your BSC monitors the load on each scraper. If it encounters an obstacle, such as a cow on the ground, it automatically stops the scraper. After a pause it tries again, if the obstacle is still there, the BSC sounds an alarm.

Special Care Zone Take extra care in sensitive areas such as calving pens. You can program your scrapers to only clean these when manually activated. This lets you clear those areas so you don’t have anything to worry about. (Available on single alley solution)
