In the Branches: Car Buying Seminars   Tied in knots about buying a vehicle? DNCU’s resident carbuying expert, Rita Zamora, is holding seminars this November about how to buy a car. The final seminar will take place in Española Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 6:00 p.m.  "Buying a car – new or used – can be intimidating,” Rita says. “Our goal is to help you understand how to get preapproved for a loan, how to negotiate the best deal, how to evaluate financing options, and other tips.” Rita will share her wealth of experience to help you, the member, be comfortable in working with a dealer. RSVP to Rita at [email protected] if you’d like to attend.

So you’re not a fan of promotions? Unsubscribe any time. We do send offers from time-to-time about partners we believe offer members a financial benefit. Chip Cards – That’s a Microchip, Not a Potato Chip  EMV or “chip” cards are on their way to members. The new “chip” cards have a microchip – a metal square on the front of the card – which adds a level of security to transactions. The transaction takes place while the card is in the card terminal, which makes it more secure. DNCU members will receive new chip-enabled debit cards in the first quarter of 2016, as well as new credit cards this fall if you

Member Appreciation Giveaway Winner

Congratulations to Jeannette Arquero, winner of the Member Appreciation Days drawing. Jeannette has won the 2-night stay at High Country Lodge in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Jeannette has been a member with us since she was a baby. Her father opened the account just months after she was born. We received 1,350 entries from the branches and 2,130 entries from the email blast we sent. Thanks for being a member of DNCU!

Meet Tammie Trujillo – White Rock Branch & eServices Manager Ten years ago, Tammie stumbled upon our Cordova branch – she had just moved to Santa Fe from Grants, N.M. Three months later she was a teller at DeVargas.  In her ten years at DNCU, Tammie has worked in many areas of the organization and was recently promoted to White Rock Branch & eServices Manager. Tammie lives with her husband, a Northern New Mexico native, in Espanola. They have three daughters and a son (ages 21, 18, 17 and 9), two dogs, a shark tank and two large aquariums. “This is an amazing town,” Tammie says, “an unknown gem. We have lots of family here, and it has been good to me.” In her spare time, Tammie loves “listening to the leaves and the sound of the mountains” when she’s not watching a Denver Broncos game. Having spent five years in the call center never meeting a member, Tammie now enjoys the face-to-face contact with members in the branch. In the next five years, she looks forward to managing the new White Rock branch as well as expanding DNCU’s digital banking products and services.

DNCU’s Employee All Star Day  Credit unions, like banks, only close on Federal holidays. That makes it tough for us to get together as an organization for learning, training and celebration. So every Columbus Day, DNCU may look closed, but all employees are meeting offsite. This year, senior management talked about long-term goals, including our 2020 Performance Excellence initiative: we are on a journey to improve our organizational excellence across every department, every process and every service we offer our members, to pursue our mission of improving lives. During the day, we also had fun with team building challenges, like trying to survive on the Moon (Unfortunately, some groups ran out of oxygen too soon!) We ate lunch with colleagues we don’t see often. Best of all, we presented our annual service awards. Baxter Bear got a round of applause for 10 years of service, as well as a new purple jacket. Four employees received a 5-year award, six a 10-year award,

It’s Elementary: ArtWorks Exhibit  Marie being congratulated by Baxter and CEO Chuck Valenti.

DNCU Recognized as Best Place to Work in NM This special exhibition is in support of ArtWorks, a program of the Partners in Education Foundation for the Santa Fe Public Schools. In September 2015, Marcella Stark’s 1st graders and Christine Biree’s 2nd graders (both at Carlos Gilbert Elementary School) welcomed ArtWorks into their learning experience. Professional Teaching Artist Jen Alexander went into the classrooms and with the help of the ArtWorks trained teachers - prepared the students for a visit to a museum. They focused on journaling, sketching and creating art "tableaus" with their bodies. Jen accompanied the classes to the New Mexico Museum of Art to enjoy the exhibition, “O’Keeffe in Process,” of Georgia O'Keeffe's work. After the field trip, the children had another workshop to reflect on their experience and create art of their own, using oil pastels. The resulting pieces are now

Every year, Del Norte Credit Union has been participating in Albuquerque Business First’s Best Places to Work employee survey in order to get feedback on how we can continue to improve.  This year we were notified that we will be recognized as one of the best places to work in the entire state!  “We are honored that 92% of us are proud to work here, and 98% are always thinking of ways to do our jobs better!” says CEO Chuck Valenti. “We believe these results are a measure of how well we are able to serve our members,” Chuck says. “We hope our members are as proud of this designation as we are.”

Members Helping Members The season to help one another is approaching. We will again be inviting you to nominate a deserving DNCU member for a holiday meal. We will be providing 10 members with a free prepackaged and cooked holiday meal from Smith’s. Referral forms will be available in branches in early December. The cooperative spirit is alive and well at Del Norte Credit Union!

a subject important to your financial health—topics include retirement investing, social security planning, annuities, college savings and more.  Most recently, we presented a seminar on long-term care. Seminars are presented in both Los Alamos and Santa Fe and usually include refreshments! Look for information on our website, via email or in branches – they are usually publicized 3-4 weeks before the date. End of year tip: Net worth is your own personal “balance sheet” to check how your finances are doing. Add up the value of all your assets – house, car, savings, retirement – and subtract all your debt – mortgage, car loan, credit card debt. Ideally the result is a positive number which grows every year.  The end of the year, with tax season on the horizon, is a great time to take stock of your finances.  Have questions? Scott Covey, DNIS's Financial Advisor, can work with you to help define a financial strategy customized to your goals, risk tolerance, tax management, income, and cash-flow needs.
