Originally from Baltimore MD, Hair color is Ian’s passion and he loves to share it with others around the world. Ian has quickly become a favorite here at Tru Beauty Concepts with staff and customers alike: he’s just a good guy. He’s the fun guy who works in the chair next to you, who loves what he does, and who makes you love what you do even more just by being around him. How did you get your start in the industry? I started working in a salon when I was 16, at Bubbles Hair Salon in Washington, DC, where I assisted a woman named Sharon So. She is an amazing stylist and I learned a lot about cutting and the importance of controlling the hair. I then went to hair school at Aveda and worked at a salon immediately after graduating, Lluminaire Salon in Baltimore, MD where I learned so much about the client experience and everything from cutting to color correction. My bosses were both Sassoontrained, and because of that I attended many classes at Sassoon’s Academy in Santa Monica, CA. I always took as many classes as I could! I then went on to teach for Loreal for a few years before relocating back to DC. Why are you so passionate about the industry? I’ve always been passionate about the industry. Being able to impact women’s lives is what its all about. I believe we can and should be better as a whole. I think the bar needs to be raised.
Where do you draw your inspiration from? I draw inspiration from everything... my assistant and co-workers, even nature and children’s hair. It is really about looking at things with open eyes. What is your favorite coloring technique and why? Hair painting! I use Solaris Air Libre (Poudr 6) and it’s the only thing I paint with. I use it everyday behind the chair and I have for years! It has a clay-like consistency and develops almost a shell around the hair. It’s a great product that I can’t live without! How has Education impacted your career? Education is the key to success in any field. Any person who wants to be great at their craft needs to always be learning... period! Otherwise you grow stale or the ego gets too big. Education is reflected in everything I do in this industry. It’s really how I became the stylist I am today. What advice would you give to a new stylist wanting to make an impact in the industry? I’d say always learn, always grow and always be open. I assisted multiple great colorists (and a lot of them for free). I just always tried to be a part of something bigger and didn’t care if that meant I wasn’t getting paid. I wanted to learn it all from everyone who was willing to share! I was hungry and didn’t stop!

Originally from Baltimore MD, Hair color is Ian’s passion and he loves to share it with others around the world. Ian has quickly become a favorite here at Tru Beauty Concepts with staff and customers alike: he’s just a good guy. He’s the fun guy who works in the chair next to you, who loves what he does, and who makes you love what you do even more just by being around him. How did you get your start in the industry? I started working in a salon when I was 16, at Bubbles Hair Salon in Washington, DC, where I assisted a woman named Sharon So. She is an amazing stylist and I learned a lot about cutting and the importance of controlling the hair. I then went to hair school at Aveda and worked at a salon immediately after graduating, Lluminaire Salon in Baltimore, MD where I learned so much about the client experience and everything from cutting to color correction. My bosses were both Sassoontrained, and because of that I attended many classes at Sassoon’s Academy in Santa Monica, CA. I always took as many classes as I could! I then went on to teach for Loreal for a few years before relocating back to DC. Why are you so passionate about the industry? I’ve always been passionate about the industry. Being able to impact women’s lives is what its all about. I believe we can and should be better as a whole. I think the bar needs to be raised.
Where do you draw your inspiration from? I draw inspiration from everything... my assistant and co-workers, even nature and children’s hair. It is really about looking at things with open eyes. What is your favorite coloring technique and why? Hair painting! I use Solaris Air Libre (Poudr 6) and it’s the only thing I paint with. I use it everyday behind the chair and I have for years! It has a clay-like consistency and develops almost a shell around the hair. It’s a great product that I can’t live without! How has Education impacted your career? Education is the key to success in any field. Any person who wants to be great at their craft needs to always be learning... period! Otherwise you grow stale or the ego gets too big. Education is reflected in everything I do in this industry. It’s really how I became the stylist I am today. What advice would you give to a new stylist wanting to make an impact in the industry? I’d say always learn, always grow and always be open. I assisted multiple great colorists (and a lot of them for free). I just always tried to be a part of something bigger and didn’t care if that meant I wasn’t getting paid. I wanted to learn it all from everyone who was willing to share! I was hungry and didn’t stop!
