A NIGHT AT THE RACES – PARENT ASSOCIATION FALL FUNDRAISER

If you enjoyed Pocketbook Bingo, or missed out on it, join the Parent Association for A NIGHT AT THE RACES! A fun night out for all, the event promises excitement, comradery and great food. “The Races will be a great night for friends and family to kick off the holiday party season or just take a break from the holiday to-do list” said event organizer, Dennis O’Keefe. The evening will center around 8-10 video horse races with participants taking chances on choice horses prior to each race. Appetizers and desserts will be served and guests are invited to BYOB – bring your own beverages. Reservations are encouraged in groups of 8 or 10 but individuals looking to attend will find it a great night to meet new people. “These events always provide for a lot of excitement and more than a few laughs” said Jeanmarie Cooney, Event Co-Chair. “And some lucky guests will leave with extra Christmas shopping cash!” Tickets will be capped at 300 guests so please go online today and order yours. Check the AMHS website or email [email protected] for more details. Missi Holland and Casey Ehrie promise an evening packed with information valuable to those entrenched in the process and those that need to start thinking about their planning. If you attend only one event this year -this is the one to attend.

IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY FOR COLLEGE PLANNING As parents, we all want our children to have options and a bright future. That is what the College Planning session on December 11th is all about. The AMHS Guidance Department has put together a panel of college admissions experts from various colleges to discuss the application and admission process for Juniors. The event will also open with a session geared to Freshman and Sophomore parents providing information on starting the college planning process early. This session will include experiences of previous students and parents in a section titled “Looking Back, I Wish I….”. The entire program will be valuable to parents of Junior, Sophomore and Freshman students. Keep options open and eliminate future stress by preparing early.

SPRING GALA & AUCTION PLANNING UNDERWAY The Albertus Magnus Gala & Auction is scheduled for Saturday May 2, 2015 at the Patriot Hills Golf Club. The event is a fun-filled night filled with Tricky-Tray, Silent and Oral Auctions, followed by dinner and musical entertainment. We will once again offer a raffle for a car, with only 350 tickets to be sold, as well as a raffle for a free semester tuition at Albertus, and the Super 50-50 raffle. This is the primary fundraiser for AMHS. Previous events have raised significant funds towards the refurbishment of the science labs at the school. This year proceeds will be used to purchase state-of-the-arts lights and sound systems for the Albertus gymnasium. The gym is the primary space for all AMHS events, such as Mass, graduation, assemblies, theatre productions as well as sporting events and the lights and sound systems will compliment the projector and screen that was added last year. WE NEED YOUR HELP !!! In order to make the Gala a successful event, we need many helping hands  Some of you may be able to donate your time to any of our committees (see below for a list). We will take an hour…….or whatever time you can donate. 

Some of you may be able to donate an auction item or have contacts/connections who are able to donate gifts that we can use as part of the Auction. Additionally, we need your help to reach out to Alumni, friends and business contacts for donations. Our team will be happy to follow-up if you know someone we can contact.

Examples of items we are in need of include:  Sporting Event Tickets (Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, Rangers, College Teams, etc.)  Golf Club foursomes  Vacation Homes/Condo Rentals (Weekend get-aways or week-long excursions)  Hotel Vouchers / Discounts  Theatre / Concert Tickets  Airline Tickets / Vouchers  Autographed Collectible Items (Sports, Music, Theatre)  Electronic Items or Discounts to Purchase Electronics (TV, Computers, etc.)  Spa Services  Discounts at Department Stores, Other Vendors

JUNIOR CLASS POCKETBOOK BINGO A HUGE SUCCESS The Class of 2018 sponsored the second annual Pocketbook Bingo this year hosting 300 pocketbook and bingo enthusiasts! On Thursday, November 6th, the cafeteria was magically transformed into a Bingo Hall with Master-ofCeremony, Mike McAndrew at the helm. The event committee, led by Joanne Sullivan, worked tirelessly the weeks before the event securing and wrapping prizes and supplies. The event was sold out at 300 participants a week before! “Mr. McAndrew did a great job entertaining the ladies as he called the Bingo numbers and the student volunteers were super” said Joanne. “Our committee was great --- everyone had a job to do and did it well. We felt well prepared the morning of the event.” The ticket proceeds and raffle sales added nicely to the Junior Class funds for their Senior year activities.

The evening centered around 10 Bingo Games with designer bags as prizes. In between games, door prizes were awarded. Raffles for gift baskets were also a highlight of the evening. Dessert and coffee was served and the ladies were invited to “bring their own…”. Bingo guests had a great time and we look forward to next year’s event!
