soulchristmas - the seven principles of kwanzaa

English

2016 is nearly over and people all over the world are celebrating the year-end holidays in their own unique and traditional way. In other parts of the world they have their own traditions and festivals. This makes the holiday season a perfect time to learn about new cultures. Here are three different traditions from three very different cultures. Kwanzaa in the U.S. Kwanzaa is a weeklong celebration for African-American culture. It was first celebrated in 1966 and is one of the fastest growing holidays. A Kwanzaa celebration includes lots of singing and drumming. Ta Chiu in Hong Kong People in Hong Kong pray to the gods asking that they will receive their wishes for the next year. Priests read the names of everybody at the celebration and put a list of names on a paper horse and then set it on fire. The smoke then carries the names up to the gods! Argentina In Argentina, Christmas takes place in the summertime and barbecues and fireworks are common. The family gathers on Christmas Eve for a big party that continues all night long. At midnight, gifts are exchanged. Children leave their shoes next to their beds to be filled with candies and small toys.

Fraser Mummery - Supermoon!

Last month, in November on the 14th did you all brave the cold weather and spot the ‘super moon’ that appeared in the night time skies? For some they missed the chance as the weather was cloudy and obscured the moon from our sights. However, that was not the last time this year for an opportunity to gaze upon this rare event – the next super full moon is forecasted to appear on December 14th too. Let’s hope for better and clearer skies! Experts and space gazers predict that the moon will appear approximately 14% bigger and at least 30% brighter. With a better view, many people are expecting this event to be one of the most beautiful sights and to take advantage of viewing our moon at its closest point to Earth. Not only do the stars and the night sky amaze us with their beauty but also the natural wonders that are here on earth. Nevertheless, make sure to put super moon day in your diary and hope for good weather!
