EAGLES IN THE PROS Boston College has always been well-represented in the National Football League. A total of 19 former Eagles were on NFL opening day rosters for the 2000 season, which was tied as the 25th-highest of any school and second among BIG EAST Conference schools. Former Eagles Pete Mitchell and Ron Stone both were members of the NFC champion New York Giants last year and played in the Super Bowl. Doug Flutie was the 1998 NFL Comeback Player of the Year after his remarkable season with the Buffalo Bills as he played in the Pro Bowl. For the 2001 season, he will be in his first year as a member of the San Diego Chargers. Longtime veteran Bill Romanowski has earned two Super Bowl championship rings with the Denver Broncos. He has never missed a game due to injury in his career and has played in three Super Bowls, six NFC titles games and has been to the playoffs nine times. Dave Widell was part of an offensive line that led the Atlanta Falcons to the 1999 Super Bowl. As of June 13, 2001, a total of 31 former Boston College players were on active NFL rosters. Their names appear in the box below.

The following is a list of former Boston College players who have played in professional football through the 2000 National Football League season and the 2001 Canadian Football League, NFL Europe and Arena Football League seasons. The list also contains a number of former Boston College players who have served as assistant coaches and trainers in the NFL. Other professional leagues listed are: AAFC-All-Ameircan Football Conference (1946-49), AFL-American Football League (1926, 1036-37, 1940-41,196068), APFA-American Profesional Football Association (1920-21), Arena-Arena Football League (1987-present), CFL-Canadian Football League (1946-present), NFLE-National Football League Europe (1997-present), USFL-United States Football League (1983-85), WFL-World Football League (1974-75), WLAF-World League of American Football (1991-96).
