US stock markets declined on Wednesday, pulled down by retail stocks which offset the rally in oil prices. The Dow Jones was down 1.2%, led by Walt Disney and Nike Inc. The S&P 500 declined 1%, dragged down by Staples, Macy’s and Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. Further, the Nasdaq Composite, too, sank 1%.



European markets were down on Wednesday, owing to weak corporate earnings. The DAX and the CAC 40 dropped 0.7% and 0.5% respectively. However, the FTSE 100 inched up 0.1%, backed by the advance in mining shares and the rally in oil prices.



GCC markets ended on a mixed note on Wednesday. Dubai rose 0.5%, backed by Amlak, while Kuwait rose 0.5%. Further, Qatar edged up 0.1%, led by Dlala Brokerage. On the other hand, Abu Dhabi was down 0.9%, dragged down by Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. Oman and Bahrain slipped 0.5% and 0.2% respectively.



Asian markets are trading in the red this morning, owing to negative cues from the western countries. The Shanghai Composite and the Hang Seng Index are down 0.7% and 0.5% respectively. Meanwhile, the Nikkei 225 is trading lower at 0.4%. However, the KOSPI is trading on a flat note this morning.



Brent crude oil prices climbed 4.6% on Wednesday, primarily led by the release of EIA data indicating a drop in crude oil inventories in the US. Key crude contracts Brent and WTI ended at US$ 47.6 (+4.6%) and US$ 46.23 (+3.5%) respectively.

Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) rose 9.38 points or 0.14% to close at 6,654.2. Eleven of the fifteen sector indices closed higher. The advance decline ratio was 71/91. Trading turnover was around SAR 5.9 bn.



Among the heavyweight sectors, Telecom advanced 0.18%, Petrochemical Industries added 0.10%, whereas Banks declined 0.06%. Among other sectors, Media and Publishing rose 1.90%, Transport was up 0.93%, and Real Estate Development 0.70% higher.
