Introduction to BAP

BAP operate the largest independent Port Centric Warehousing

and 3PL operation on the Felixstowe Port of Britain, with 32 trucks and 75 trailers

 Current space capacity is 45,000 sq m warehousing on-Port, 35,000 sq m off-port

Handle over 26,000 TEU imports annually Throughput of 6700 pallets per week and a stock holding of circa 55,000 pallets

Devan containers and revan into European Trailers for road deliveries

Containerise and export JCBs, tractors, cars, machinery, steel and food products worldwide from a 1 acre site on-port

As a CASSANDRA partner, BAP have worked closely with

Descartes in Living Lab 1 to close the information gaps between multiple systems using the concept of a data “pipeline”

Upstream Data

The tallyman checks the consignment as it is loaded into the container, the container manifest data is then keyed on to the system in China.

The files are transmitted from the centre daily. We update the Dashboard within a few hours of the container door being closed.

The data will certainly be available on the dashboard before the vessel sails.

The data is pulled from the Descartes GLN by customs via the IBM Customs dashboard for container interrogation. BAP Logistics Ltd

BAP Living Lab Experience

Data is sourced from 3 systems of differing Supply Chain actors

Purchase Order and Container Manifest data is collated

and pushed to the Descartes GLN by BAP and displayed on the Dashboard

Daily files contain live data uploaded to GLN in real-time. EDI Messages are sent from the INTTRA network, with Vessel details, booking information and container journey milestones

25 Customs data elements have been identified in the sourced PO and container manifest data.

22 further data elements have been sourced from the Customs declaration files in the UK

Benefits - Consignment Completion Point

When loaded, the container is sealed and the Tally Man at CFS confirms the packing list is correct.

The Packages(ASN) field shows the confirmed packing list quantity.

BAP and our customers benefit by knowing in advance of any discrepancy between the ASN and PO before arrival in Felixstowe

Benefits – Visibility and Warehouse Optimisation

With better “visibility” and accurate data, containers can be green-laned by Customs for Trusted Tradelane partners

By knowing what is in the container, the expense of

warehouse function can be removed where goods can be stored in the container in a dedicated overspill area

Visibility allows targeted stuffing of containers by the Freight Forwarder for specific customer regions and stores in the UK

Targeted container stuffing improves storage at the consolidation point in China

Improved packaging leads to less space in the

warehouse allowing for cost savings and revenue increases where container volumetrics are maximised

BAP Logistics Ltd

8

Warehouse Optimisation - Cubiscan

By capturing volumetrics issues earlier in the supply chain, BAP have introduced a Cubiscan device

With exact dimensions of a single carton, outer cartons and pallet configuration can be maximised to increase warehouse storage capacity

Improved pallet configurations have allowed for a 0.3m average stack height increase

10

Benefits - Warehouse Optimisation

Visibility of Data further upstream before the vessel sails allows for – More active monitoring of containers, contents and time lines, reducing warehouse storage and administration – More accurate pre-planning of daily container devans – pallet configuration can known prior to container devanning with volumetric data

BAP Logistics Ltd

11

Benefits to BAP and Customers

Ability to maximise container loads with Volumetric data that was previously not received – Efficient Goods Consolidation inside the containers – Lower freight charges for our customers

BAP Logistics Ltd

12

Benefits to BAP and Customers - Quality

With accurate product dimensions being captured upstream, falsified dimensions and packaging issues at the CFS are prevented - 5% improvement in container volumetrics received from the consolidation centre - 20% improvement where containers are sent direct from the supplier BAP Logistics Ltd

13

Benefits - Visibility of Alerts

Alerts on the Dashboard notify of the delays and the

transhipment of vessels or when a container has missed a vessel

Delayed customs releases are to be alerted, containers managed and customer impact mitigated

Alerts of the discrepancies between PO and Container

manifest allows mitigation prior to container arrival and de-stuffing in Felixstowe

BAP Logistics Ltd

14

Visibility of Alerts - Promotions

Shipment detail alerts allow for the tracking of containers with promotional goods, known as “Origin Pick”

Information on the container whereabouts would allow BAP to update customers of any delays in advance of the vessel arrival in the UK

Alerts of Origin Pick promotions can improve

warehouse management, creating storage efficiencies and allowing for a just in time approach to the storage of goods

Overall improvement in ongoing logistics for high priority promotional merchandise

15

Benefits and Next Steps

BAP as a direct result of the CASSANDRA project have been able to gather more accurate Volumetrics data on the POs coming through from Suppliers in China.

The volumetrics data has improved ongoing compliance on behalf of our customers, saving costs where containers were previously not being used to their full load capacity.

We have also used the more accurate shipping data to schedule our warehouse work loads and ensure promotions hit their on sale deadlines

The specific data capture developed for the data pipeline, including declaration data will be used in other projects currently in development e.g. Core BAP Logistics Ltd
