Global Foam Company has been in business since 1997. Two partners designed and built their first computer-controlled foam cutting machine for cutting patterns on investment castings to within +/-.005 inches. We have since diversified and now provide custom precise-cut foam patterns and shapes for several applications: architecture, signs, concrete forms, amusement parks, displays/exhibits, from wedding columns to concrete bridge detailing. Global Foam Company produces unfinished items for EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finish Systems). The shapes we create can be cut from our library of files, or we can produce from customer generated ideas. Usable files include 2D and 3D CAD files, dimensioned layouts, photos, hand sketches or renderings, clip art profiles and letter fonts. Exceeding customer expectations is our primary goal.

Self Installation: Step 1 – Determine Location, frame details (wood or tube steel) and check building codes Step 2 – Dig post holes for 2 holes as depth requires (typically 3 ft) Step 3 – Make sure posts or frame is plumb to ground, pour in concrete Step 4 – After concrete sets, apply construction adhesive to posts and slide sign over posts or from top Step 5 – Apply finish grading to cover the bottom of sign and you’re finished!

WHAT IS EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE (EPS)? EPS is a molded cellular board. Expanded Polystyrene is a firm, closed cell, plastic foam material. Expanded Polystyrene can be molded into a variety of shapes – from blocks into sheeting for roofing, insulation, detail and ornamental work on houses and buildings, signs, floatation etc. Can be molded into specific shapes based on the customers needs, such as fish boxes, insulated concrete forms etc. It’s lightweight properties make it very easy to work with. Architectural EPS is modified with a fire retardant and is usually encapsulated with an acrylic-based finish.

EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE (EPS) Concerns of EPS - Moisture, chemical properties, adhesives, exposure to sunlight, bacterial growth & fungus and load-bearing properties. Moisture: The closed-cell structure of Expanded Polystyrene allows water vapor in wall cavities to escape without considerably affecting insulation properties. It is one of the foam materials most resistant to moisture absorption. Even though molded Expanded Polystyrene has a low vapor transmission rate, it is not a vapor barrier. EPS is also acceptable for cold storage applications. Chemical Properties: Expanded Polystyrene molded products are resistant to virtually allaqueous media including dilute acids and alkalis, as well as water-soluble alcohols and silicones. EPS products have limited resistance to these substances - paraffin oil, vegetable oils, diesel fuel, and Vaseline may attack the surface after long-term contact and cause deformation. Expanded Polystyrene products are not resistant to organic chemicals such as hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, ketones and esters. Anhydrous acids destroy organics such as Expanded Polystyrene. Adhesives: Products molded from Expanded Polystyrene are easily bonded to many materials with non-hydrocarbon base adhesives and cements. Latex paints provide an excellent finish coat for Expanded Polystyrene point-of-sale displays and consumer enduse food containers. Exposure to Sunlight: Long-standing direct exposure to sunlight may cause yellowing and slight surface embellishments. Suitable coverings are recommended for long-term outdoor use. Bacterial Growth: Expanded Polystyrene molded products don’t support fungus and bacterial growth. Soiled foam can provide nutrient for fungal or bacterial growth. Load-Bearing Properties: Products molded from Expanded Polystyrene can be calculated to endure very high loads without buckling. The design parameters used are reliant on end-use requirements.

Types of Foam and Coatings EPS (Expanded Bead Polystyrene) (Bead Board) This material comes in large billets ~ 33x48x96 inches. This type of foam is white and has small beads formed together like foam packing products. This material can be of various densities. We typically cut a 1 lb. foam for most uses. The EPS can be bought at 2 lb., 3 lb., and 5 lb. densities. The cost of materials increases in prices according to density; for example: 1 lb. is ½ the price of 2 lb. This material can be painted by hand or a mechanical sprayer. You cannot use solvents in any coating because the foam will melt. We have water based coatings, including paint, which will provide a hard durable finish for this material and hard plastic finishes for this foam plus a special Styrocrete finish. The Styrocrete is a concrete with a polymer bonder providing a weatherproof coating. Add a fiberglass mesh and this material wears just like a stucco exterior finish. Great for signage or any outdoor displays.

Extruded Polystyrene (DowTM Board) This material is a smooth closed cell and is about 1.5 lb. Density, it is used for items 3 in. thick or less. We use this for letters and shapes when someone wants a higher quality foam for applying paint.

Textured Concrete Coatings We have several coatings which can provide a base coat with or without mesh or a hard finish for painting.
