This railway post office car is painted Pullman green with black roof and gold lettering. It was built in 1918 by Pullman Standard and runs on passenger trucks. In the United States a railway post office, commonly abbreviated as RPO, was a railroad car that was normally operated in passenger service as a means to sort mail en route, in order to speed delivery.

Norfolk Southern Road Numbers NS 146557 / 146559 These 100 ton three-bay open hoppers with coal loads and operating bay doors are painted black with white logos and lettering. Yellow reflectors run the lower length of the hoppers. They were built in March 2008 and runs on Barber® Roller Bearing trucks. These AAR class HT open hoppers are open top self-clearing cars, having fixed sides and ends and bottom consisting of three or more divided hoppers with doors hinged crosswise of car and dumping between rails.

Wisconsin & Southern Road Number WSOR 503196 This 50’ standard box car with double plug doors and no roofwalk is painted pink and lettered in black with black Wisconsin & Southern herald as well as a black outline of a Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon with the slogan ‘Making Strides Against Cancer.’ It runs on Roller Bearing trucks. Wisconsin & Southern repainted this car in memory of Lucy Stone Gardner, late wife of WSOR owner Bill Gardner. Lucy lost her fight against cancer three years prior; Bill commemorated her fight and raised awareness with this box car.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey™ Billboard Car #3 This wood-sheathed car is painted brown and features a colorful representation of an actual Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey™ poster. In the first half of the twentieth century Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey had the largest exotic animal collection in the world. Created in the 1920s, this poster exemplifies the variety of exotic animals showcased in their shows.

Southern Pacific® Road Number SP 4745 This bay window caboose is painted mineral red with daylight orange ends and bay sides and lettered in white. It was built between March and May 1980 by International Car Co./PACCAR and runs on Bettendorf Swing-Motion caboose trucks. The bay window, or side-hung cupola, debuted on the Southern Pacific Lines in 1947. They were designed in response to increasing freight car height and the resultant decrease in visibility from the cupola.

Jimmy Carter Presidential Car Road Number 1977-1981 This 40’ standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk is car #14 of a 44-car series representing each of the presidents of the United States. It bears the portrait of our 39th president, James Earl “Jimmy” Carter. The car comes with a commemorative pin replicated from that era. Nuclear physicist, peanut farmer and president, Carter was best recognized with a Nobel Peace Prize for his work promoting world peace and human rights through The Carter Center. He founded the center with his wife, Rosalynn.

Northern Pacific Road Number NP 27552 This 40’ standard box car with sliding door is painted box car red with white logo and lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Built and purchased in April 1942 by Northern Pacific, this box car was painted into the Northern Pacific paint scheme with a 36” Monad herald employed between 1942 and 1948.

TTX Company Road Number TTAX 972220 This 89’ 4” COFC flat car with container is painted brown with white and yellow logo and white lettering. It was built in October 1968 and runs on Barber® Roller Bearing trucks. This flat car hauled containers, such as this owned by CAST Transportation, around the nation carrying a wide variety of freight.

Sumpter Valley Railway Road Number SVRY 145 This 30’ flat car is painted box car red with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. The Sumpter Valley Railway Company was incorporated in the state of Oregon, August 18, 1890, hauling people, logs and lumber. The Great Depression forced the short line to abandon its mainline and discontinue is passenger service, though the line continued to haul logs and lumber from the sawmills to South Baker. The last freight train steamed into South Baker in 1947. The new Sumpter Valley Railway dates to the early 1970s. It was incorporated as a nonprofit in the hope of reviving the old railroad as a tourist line. SVRY 145 is one of the cars now on the new SVRY. The line continues to grow and advocates work hard to preserve and promote this small short line’s history.

Burlington Northern Road Numbers 6701 / 6704

This 40’ standard box car with plug door is car #16 of a 50-car series representing each of the 50 states in the union. It bears the Cardinal and Goldenrod, Kentucky’s official state bird and flower. The flag of the state of Kentucky is in the background. The road number 1792 represents the year ‘The Bluegrass State’ was admitted into the union.

These SD40-2 powered locomotives are painted green and black black roof and white diagonal stripes on the nose. They were built in 1974 by EMD for Burlington Northern as part of order number 74660. The EMD SD40-2 is a 3,000 horsepower (2,240 kW) model of C-C diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division between January 1972 and February 1986; 3,957 examples were built, and every class 1 railroad in North America has operated this type of loco. The SD40-2 is one of the best-selling diesel locomotive models of all time.

Lehigh Valley Road Numbers LV 33354 / 33452 These 50’ gondolas with fishbelly sides, drop ends and scrap iron loads, are painted box car red with white logos and lettering. They were built in October 1951, serviced in October 1978, and run on Roller Bearing trucks. These gondolas were stenciled with large billboard ‘Lehigh Valley’ with their diamond logo. They were both equipped with wood floors.

U.S. Silica Road Numbers ISPX 10004 / 10005 These P-2 70 ton two-bay covered hoppers are painted light gray with black lettering. It was built in 1969, serviced in 1978 and runs on Roller Bearing trucks. The principle commodities handled by these hoppers are cement, sand, potash, soda ash, lime, alumina, fertilizers, dolomite, soap, salt, plastic pellets and flour. Since many of these materials were highly corrosive, the PS-2 was designed to withstand their inherent effects and keep maintenance regulations to a minimum.

Missouri Pacific® Road Number MP 129685 This 40’ standard box car with single sliding door is painted box car red with white lettering, red and white MP logo, and multi-colored ‘Herbie’ graffiti. It runs on Roller Bearing trucks. In 1979 MP’s Arkansas division safety committee held a contest for a new safety slogan to be used on safety posters. David Newborne, a carman in Memphis, TN, won the contest. The committee decided to paint it on the side of MP 129685 and subsequently it toured the MP system in active service.
