Get to Know Us Thank you very much for your interest in the Creekside Preschool, a ministry of the Creekside Church! We’re excited to get to know you, your family and your child during the upcoming school year. Here is some information to help you know more about our school, our goals and what we offer. Please take a moment to read through this information and fill out the enclosed enrollment packet. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to call our director, Erin Kipple, at 425-778-4165 ext 109 or email at [email protected]. Our Purpose We are dedicated to helping your child meet core developmental milestones while providing an educational and social jumpstart to prepare them for elementary school. Our Programs 2-3 year old classroom The 2-3 year old classroom meets Tuesdays and Thursday s from 9:00am-12:00pm. Our focus for this classroom is to help children develop their social skills and a desire for learning in an environment that encourages creativity and exploration in the world around them. Some of the goals we will help your children with in this class are: improved vocabulary skills, learning how to interact with others, emotion recognition and helping children meet their core developmental milestones. 4-5 year old classroom The 4-5 year old classroom, also meeting Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am-12:00pm, is designed to help prepare children for the transition to kindergarten and beyond. Our class is very structured, but still allows children to express themselves creatively. Examples of our curriculum include looks at geology, different cultures and countries, culinary exploration, animals and basic reading skills. We do ask that all children be consistently potty trained during the daytime hours in order to attend the Creekside Preschool. We are aware that accidents do happen so you are welcome to leave a change of clothing or two with your child throughout the school year.

Curriculum and Classroom Information All of our classes have a student to teacher ratio of 1x6 (one teacher for every 6 students). Cutting edge research has shown that at ratio of 1x6 greatly improves a child’s ability to reach core developmental milestones and perform better later in life. Your child’s success

in all areas of development is very important to us. To help your child reach their goals we offer an indoor and outdoor play area because play impacts so many facets of their development. We also provide only organic and all-natural snacks because research shows more nutrients are contained in organic foods versus conventional foods. Better nutrients directly relates to your child’s motor and cognitive development. Every week we explore a different topic for our curriculum. Each classroom will present the topic in an age appropriate manner and reinforce it throughout the week. For example, one week we will be talking about geology. Part of this week will include children looking at an assortment of rocks to see how each one is different. Basic reading will be introduced (“R” is for rock with the 2-3 year olds and learning how to read and write “rock” will be presented to the 4-5 year olds). Children will learn mathematical skills with the rocks, like counting how many rocks there are and sorting them into categories (large, small, white, black). They will also learn that God made the rocks and everything we see. God made the rocks unique and different just like he made each one of us unique and different. In this way the concept of geology will be able to help our students learn a variety of skills and values. We care very much about your child’s spiritual development. Our goal is to ensure your child learns how much they are loved by God. Within our classroom structure we also pray during every snack time, learn songs about how much God loves us and what he has done for us and introduce children to a concrete moral code, based on the Bible. Our hope is that the information learned at the Creekside Preschool will be a foundation that a child can build on to develop a deep faith based relationship with God. You, as a parent, play an active roll in your child’s development. We encourage you to continue our work with your child at home and recommend that parents help out in the classrooms with their children, if you wish. Parents who volunteer are asked to fill out a new Washington State Patrol background check form every year in order to help with our classes. Developmental testing is available, for an additional fee, at the beginning and end of the school year to chart your child’s progress. Please talk with the director if you are interested in this service. Acceptance into the Program Creekside Preschool operates on a first come, first served basis. Once you have filled out the enrollment form and consent form, please turn them in along with the $75 nonrefundable enrollment fee. Your child will be placed into the classroom that corresponds with their age group. We have a small classroom size of only 10 children, 20 children total in the entire preschool. Our enrollment fills up quickly so we suggest you turn in your forms and enrollment fee as soon as your family has decided you would like your child to attend. If our classroom enrollment has been reached you are more than welcome to place your child’s name on a waitlist. We will let you know as soon as an slot opens.

At the Creekside Preschool we welcome students of any race, color, ethnicity, nationality or other origination. We believe all children are precious gifts and would never disallow a child from enrolling for any of the above reasons. General Information The Creekside Preschool operates on the same schedule as the Edmonds School District. If the school district is closed due to weather, we will also be closed. If the district is running late we will attempt to run on regular schedule, depending on conditions. We will alert all families via email should any changes occur due to weather. Please use your own judgment regarding conditions in your own area as weather around your house may be more severe than at the Creekside Preschool. If your child is ill and unable to participate in the activities and/or is not feeling well please call us at 425-778-4165 ext 109 to determine if you child should come to school that day. We wish to keep other students, staff and your child as healthy as possible; therefore, if your child has a known contagious illness please keep them at home to rest. Safety Your child’s safety is important. We only allow staff and students to be at the Creekside Church and Preschool during the week. Parents who wish to volunteer in a classroom must check in and wear a volunteer badge at all times. Anyone without a badge present during the school day will be stopped and questioned. If anyone calls asking about a child they will be told we do not give out information regarding children for safety reasons. All children are checked in and out daily using the KidCheck System. Only adults listed on the system may check out children; in this way no child will be checked out to anyone other that the parent or a previously approved adult. It is important for you, as a parent, to know about our child abuse and neglect policy as determined by the state of Washington. It is our hope that we will never have cause nor concern to address these. None-the-less, it is important that we make you aware of the policy. The Creekside Preschool is required by law to report to Child Protective Services (CPS) any suspicious circumstances having to do with a child’s physical, psychological, emotional health or well-being. Also, if we were made aware of any indication of harm towards a child or a parent we are required to contact the authorities and present the situation to them. Sunday Programs Four times a year, we would like our students to perform a song or skit at our Sunday Service. You and your child are welcome to attend, though it is optional. We will practice with students during the school week to prepare them for their presentation. These presentations help children feel comfortable in front of people and can reduce anxiety cause by public speaking. Information Night We will be offering an information night on Sunday the 16th of August at 5pm. This is an opportunity for you to personally meet some of the teachers, the director and learn a little more about the Creekside Preschool. You will also be welcome to tour our facilities with your child so they become familiar with their classroom. Children are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please let us know if you would are interested in coming by emailing us at [email protected]. Fund Raising Events To help keep your tuition payments low, we will be hosting fund raising events during the school year. These events are open to your extended and immediate family as well as the community at large. We will provide you with more detailed information regarding these events closer to their date.
