Click on “Add Slide” - and you will be given the option to add Content, or add an Activity. (n.b. anything that has “Free Trial” written across it is only available with a paid subscription - $10 / month)

If you click on “add content” - your choices (in the free version) will be:

Click on “Add Slide” and you will be taken to this screen:

Where you can choose to add text (by clicking on and typing in the text boxes), or an image or audio file. If you chose image or audio file, you will be prompted to select the location where you want to get the file:

In the “content” section, you can also choose to add a video file, an audio file, or a slide show.

Whatever you choose, you will be prompted to select the location where you want Nearpod to search for the file you wish to add (your computer, DropBox, GoogleDrive, etc.)

Your other option, when you choose “Add Slide” from the ‘Create” menu, is to add an activity.

Your choice of activities (in the free version) includes:

Open ended questions are questions that require students to type a response to a prompt or question: For example:

Students will be provided with a text box, in which they can type their responses.

You can also add a “reference image” to an Open Ended Question:

For Example: If I wanted to ask the question: “What is the measure of the missing angle?”, I would type the question into the box, and then click “Add Image” This screen would pop up:

And I would choose the location where I want Nearpod to search for the image. Typically, I save the image on my desktop and drag and drop it.

For this particular question, I would add this image:

And students would type their responses in the text box.

Another option in the “Add Activity” menu of choices is to add a poll.

Type your question, add a reference image if you wish, and then enter the choices (possible answers) in your poll - you can add as many answers as you like by clicking “add answer”.

You can also add a Quiz - one that contains one question, or several.

Enter a Quiz title (optional) Enter the question Enter as many answers as you like, clicking the check mark beside the correct response. Add more questions if you wish

Finally, you can add a “Draw it” activity to your Nearpod lesson. You can leave the screen blank, for students to write or draw an image, or you can insert an image for students to draw overtop. For example, if I wanted my students to place the number 412 on this number line, I would insert the photo into the Draw It Screen, and students could write over top of the image.

If you want students to look at an image, and then draw a response on a blank screen, add the image as a “reference image”

You’ll be prompted to give your presentation a title, a description (Optional) and to select a Grade Level and Subject from the drop down menus:

Click “Publish” and your presentation will appear in your Library.

Once a presentation is in your library, you can invite students to join you in the session, by making it “Live” and giving them the PIN

Hover your mouse over the presentation to bring up this menu - you can “Preview” the session by clicking the eye symbol, make it Live, Edit it, or Trash it. (The Homework option is only available with a paid subscription) When you click “Live Session” Nearpod generates a PIN that students can use to access the presentation.

The PIN is random, and will be different every time.

When your students open Nearpod on their iPads, instruct them to enter the PIN in the orange “Join a Session” box and tap the arrow. The presentation will download, and they’ll be prompted to enter their names as they sign in to your session.
