Creating a recording in Tegrity  INSTRUCTOR GUIDE    Use the following steps to create a recording in Tegrity:  1. Log onto Blackboard using this URL https://blackboard.umkc.edu or by going to www.umkc.edu  and clicking on the Blackboard icon.   2. Once you are logged into Blackboard, you should see the following screen. Click on the name of  the course for which you want to create a recording, in the example below, we are picking the  UMKC Tegrity Podcasting Sandbox course. 

 

Creating a recording in Tegrity  INSTRUCTOR GUIDE    3. You should now be taken to your course’s home page. From the menu on the left, locate the  Tegrity Classes link and click on it. 

  4. Clicking on the Tegrity Classes link should open a new window called the Tegrity Viewer. At the  top of this window is a Record a Class button/link. Click on it.

5. Clicking on the Record a Class button will launch the Tegrity Recorder. The boot up time/launch  time on the recorder tends to vary depending on the machine’s resources, but you should  eventually see a window like the one below: 

  1. Instructor Video: Check this option to turn on the webcam capture feature (Remember  Tegrity can simultaneously capture anything that is on your screen as well as the feed from  the web cam, also known as instructor video or instructor cam)  2. Audio Level: The indicator should fluctuate when you speak into the microphone  3. Settings: Area which allows you to change certain values for the instructor and instructional  camera. On campus, these should already be set correctly.  4. Title: Use this area to enter an appropriate title for your lecture.

  This is an example of the recorder interface with instructor video checked and the audio  indicator.  6. Next click on the Record a class button that appears in this window.  7. You may now see a confirmation message that Tegrity is about to begin recording. 

 

Creating a recording in Tegrity  INSTRUCTOR GUIDE    8. Click OK. The Tegrity recorder will now begin to run. The screen may flicker for an instant,  following which you should see a toolbar/set of icons appear adjacent to the system tray  (bottom right of your screen) 

  Notice that the toolbar has three different options, in addition to the audio level indicator.  #1 – Stops the recording  #2 – Pauses the recording  #3 – Clicking this will provide you with an expanded toolset for Tegrity. This toolset includes the  ability to switch the default video that Tegrity is capturing from the computer screen to the doc  cam, vcr and the web cam.* It also offers options for annotation tools.  * Doc Cam, VCR and webcam not available in all ILE rooms  9. Click the #3 expanded toolset icon. You should now see an expanded toolbar such as the one  below. 

  #1 – Whitepaper option (Requires use of your mouse to write on screen)  #2 – Annotation Tool (Allows you to annotate on screen and have them be part of your final  recording)  #3 – Switch default video capture source  10. To  see the different video sources you can capture from, click on icon #3 

   

Creating a recording in Tegrity  INSTRUCTOR GUIDE      You should now see the various options (available in your classroom) that Tegrity can capture  from. In my example above, I only have two, but in the standard ILE classrooms you should  clearly labeled icons such as doc cam, web cam etc.   11. To switch to a different video source to capture from in Tegrity, simply click on it. You should  now see the video input  source you selected on your screen. Also notice that the icon for the  video capture source switching tool has changed to one that looks like a laptop. To switch back  to the computer as the default source, simply click on the laptop icon.  

  12. Repeat the above process from steps 10 & 11 to switch to other sources as needed.  13.  Please note that items 9, 10 & 11 are for information purposes and are not steps that you are  required to follow if you want to create a basic recording.   14. At the end of your lecture, simply click on the stop button to end your recording.  15. Tegrity now prompts you with a screen as to whether you want to Upload (default checked  option), Preview or Delete your recording.  Upload: The recording is packaged and uploaded to the Tegrity Server  Preview: Allows you to preview the recording before uploading or deleting it  Delete: Deletes the recording from the machine without uploading it. 

  16. Leave this on the default of Upload (in the background) and hit Yes. Tegrity may display a  notification that the recording will be uploaded later.

That’s it. You can now log off the machine, but please do not shut it down. Tegrity will begin to  package your recording in the background and then upload it to the server.      When will my recording reach the server?  That depends on a couple factors (length of the recording + how busy the computer is after you  leave + how busy the network is.  Typically, a one hour recording that was created on campus can take anywhere from 1‐2 hours  to reach the server.    What if I don’t see my recording after several hours/The recording is listed as ‘Available Soon’  after several hours have passed?  There may be a problem with the recording and you may need to ‘force an upload’. Please email  Ali Haider for specific instructions on the same.
