BACKGROUND & NEEDS Impact Statement Accomplishments: • Obtained IRS 501c3 status for the Cortez Classic Yacht Guild Inc. • Located a ship suitable to be the Flagship for the Gulf region. • Spoke at local civic organizations to begin public awareness of the Flagship restoration project. • Have had CCYG and mission exposure via news articles and television airing. Goals: • Primary goal: restore and sail a Flagship to make the public aware of CLEAN WATER, Marine Conservation, and educate students and volunteers in the woodworking craft and boat restoration. • Move and exhibit the Flagship at ports and cities in the local area and raise awareness to the public of the importance of CLEAN WATER.

• Give presentations, use Facebook, Website and other social media to educate the public about the Flagship and the mission of the Cortez Classic Yacht Guild.

Needs Statement 1. Primary need: Raise funds to move the Flagship from the water to land and begin the restoration of the ship. (approximately $16,000) 2. Secure ship on land with protective covering "shed" with video and alarm surveillance equipment. (approx $3000) 3. Prepare brochures, write articles for news media, send out mailings. produce video via airborne drone. (approx $3,000) 4. Restore the wooden sailing ship. (approx $900,000) 5. Return the ship to the waters of Bradenton/Sarasota.

Background Statement In 2014 Rick Stewart and Herman Kruegle saw a need to make the public aware of the importance of CLEAN WATER and Marine Conservation in the Manatee, Bradenton and regional area of Southwest Florida and the Gulf of Mexico region. In particular we felt it was importance to help preserve and carry on the legacy of the multi-generational heritage of the small commercial fishing village of Cortez, FL. Cortez is located on the waters of Sarasota Bay, east of the barrier islands of Longboat Key and Anna Maria Key and is one of the few fishing ports remaining in Florida. Adjacent to Cortez is the 93 acre preserve owned and operated by the non-profit Florida Institute for Saltwater Heritage (FISH). Rick Sewart, a master boat builder, is the manager of the fully equipped BoatWorks facility having the mission to build or restore wooden boats is located on the FISH preserve. As a consequence the non-profit Cortez Classic Yacht Guild was formed with a mission to restore a historic sailing ship, and to bring to the publics attention the importance of CLEAN WATER in the region. In particular the San Francesco will dock in the Mid-Westcoast counties of: Pinellas, Hillsboro, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and Collier. During the restoration of the San Francesco and after it is fully restored and when it is visiting ports in the regional bays and Gulf of Mexico waters, it is the belief of CCYG that the general public, cities, and commercial industries will have a greater appreciation of the Importance of CLEAN WATER and Marine Conservation in the region. When the Flagship is fully restored and operational, its value measured by regional economic and cultural impacts will exceed the magnitude of the original investment costs. It will bring visitors to Cortez, Bradenton, Sarasota and the region.

Statement from the Board Chair There are many entities encroaching on fragile condition of the waters, coastlines and rivers in the Gulf of Mexico region. These include land developers, pollution from land runoff and the commercial sector. It is the mission of the Cortez Classic Yacht Guild, Inc to make the public aware of the importance of Clean Water. The vehicle to accomplish this is to restore an historic wooden ship and sail it in the region as the Flagship for Clean Water in the region.

Statement from the CEO/Executive Director To restore a Flagship to sail the region funds are needed to move a ship from the water to land at the BoatWorks facility located in the Florida Institute for Saltwater Heritage (FISH) in the fishing village of Cortez, Florida. Its mission would be similar to that of Pete Seeger and the Clearwater sailing ship on the Hudson River, New York to rid the river of major industrial pollution. Our Flagship could accomplish a similar function and help maintain Clean Water in the Gulf of Mexico region.

Areas Served FL- Hillsborough FL- Manatee FL-Pinellas FL- Sarasota FL- Charlotte The primary areas our programs will serve are the Southwest Florida bay and estuary regions, particularly the Sarasota and Manatee County coastal regions. A special and important location will be the historic fishing village of Cortez, Florida. Extended locations include Pinellas and Charlotte Counties, Florida.

Short Term Success

Students and volunteers working at any level will improve their skills and knowledge through hands-on building and restoring wooden boats in the BoatWorks shop at the FISH 501c-3 preserve in Cortez, FL. These skills will make them more capable of securing jobs in the market place requiring experienced woodworking and carpentry professionals.

Long Term Success

Educate the public of the importance of CLEAN WATE and Marine Conservation in the local Sarasota/Manatee waters and the Gulf of Mexico regional waters.

Program Success Monitoring

Utilizing our experience of building and restoring wooden boats and ships (as well as many land based wood restoring applications), we have created tasks and timetables to ensure the restoration projects are completed within expected time-frames and funds.

Program Success Examples

A suitable ship is being acquired to serve as the Flagship to sail the local and regional waters. Since no other Flagship is sailing the waters in the region, the ship and education it will provide will enhance coastal marine life, insure cleaner beaches for the public. It will give students and volunteers an opportunity to learn the woodworking trade for marine, and land based jobs.

Comments Program Comments by Organization CCYG has secured a historic sailing ship the San Francesco, a 70ft. schooner built in 1870 in Italy. The ship is registered in the United States and is docked in Cortez, Florida. The San Francesco is to be restored to be the FLAGSHIP in the Southwest Florida Gulf of Mexico regional waters to educate the public of the importance of CLEAN WATER and Marine conservation.

Comments Financial Comments by Organization At present there is no "Flagship" bringing to the attention of the public the importance of CLEAN WATER, Marine Conservation, the heritage of wooden boat building, and the dangers of additional water pollution caused by land over-development along the coast of Southwest Florida and Gulf of Mexico regions. Funds are needed to secure and make seaworthy the San Francesco 1870 schooner, to be the Flagship sailing vessel in the region. The primary mission of CCYG is to emulate the pioneering campaign of the singer Pete Seeger along the Hudson River. His organization built and sailed the schooner "Clearwater" and raised funds to force cities and commercial companies to reduce or eliminate pollution. At present the organization Riverkeeper under the leadership of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is carrying on the mission of Pete Seeger. Likewise the primary mission of CCYG is to partner with like-minded conservation organizations and to sail the San Francesco to preserve our

waters. Financial Comments by Foundation Financial information was taken from the organization's Federal 990-EZ.
