Copy and Paste Job Aid

  Overview Content in a Documentum repository always resides within a cabinet, folder or container. Copying and pasting content leaves it in its original location, but puts a new copy (duplicate) in a different location.

Security Info You must have READ permission to copy a file.

Content that you are copying to another location in the repository is held in a temporary location called the Clipboard.

1 Copy Files and Folders 1  T o copy one or more files or folders, select the files or folders in the Content pane. 2  Click the EDIT menu, and then select Add to Clipboard.

Security Info To copy a file or folder, you must have at least the READ permission.

More Info To remove a copy, you will have to delete the copied file. Please refer to the Delete Content Job Aid for process steps on how to delete a file.

3  The Add to Clipboard successful message appears in the Status bar.

4  N  avigate to the destination folder and select it. Click the EDIT menu, and then select Copy Here.

Shortcuts • For

Mac, press Shift and C on your keyboard.

• For

PC, press Shift and V on your keyboard.

•  Right-click, or press Control (CTRL) and click, and then select Copy Here.

5  The Copy successful message displays in the Status bar. The files or folders are copied from their original location to the destination folder. Security Info A copied file inherits the permission set from its destination location.

NOTES • You can copy a file multiple times into a folder. Documentum will add Copy of in front of the file name. After the first copy, Documentum will number the copies, such as Copy (2) of File. • When you copy a file or folder to a new location, it remains on the Clipboard, allowing you to copy to multiple locations. The file or folder will remain on the Clipboard until you add the new file or folder to the Clipboard or until you log out of Documentum. • When a file is copied, not all of its versions are copied. Only the selected version is copied. Other versions will remain in the original location. Often, the previous versions are not visible because, by default, only the CURRENT version is visible.

2  Copy a Folder Only 1  T o copy a folder only, without its contents, select the folder in the Content pane. 2  Click the EDIT menu, and select Add to Clipboard Folder Only.

Quick Tip Right-click, or press Control (CTRL) and click, and then select Add to Clipboard Folder Only.

3  The Add To Clipboard Folders Only screen appears, displaying the folder you added to the Clipboard. Click the button.

NOTE  There is no confirmation message in the Status bar when you add only a folder to the Clipboard.
